View Full Version : Titan, better K/D on offense?

Maybe I just had a good round last night, but it was unreal. I'm generally not very good, my K/D is just now approaching 1:1... when I started playing it was my first BF game and my first game at all in a long time. After the first 15 hours I had K/D 0.3  and it has been slowly rising since.

Normal logic says that you'll do much better defending the Titan, but last night I had the opposite experience. I was leading a great squad, for one, and for 3-4 games in a row my squad took most of the consoles and core (all heavily defended). I average 2-3 K/D on each round with usually close to 40 kills, which is WAY better than I ever do.

Maybe I'm better on offense, maybe the other team sucked, or maybe it was all luck. But I think I figured out some tricks on offense. As good as my squad was, they were not pushing forward into the console halls nearly hard enough. Even when we did not get through to the console, I usually would toss a nade and get 1-2 kills. I'd also prone around the corner just SLIGHTLY and take out the sentry guns before they could even see me (I don't see anybody else doing this), making it much easier for my team to poke around the corner. On the shorter halls like 3 and 4, I often sprinted right into the hallway past the first wave of defenders (and sentry guns) and started gunning down the guys in the back... half the time my squad wouldn't even follow my lead, they'd just sit outside scared. Once I even blew console 4 while it was surrounded by 3 guys. Just ran in, RDX x3, detonate, boom - console AND 3 kills. :D

Anyway, just wanted to recap one of the better gaming nights I've had recently. It was on the EA US Leetservers #4, and I added everybody from that squad to my buddy list, except one guy I can't even find by name - weird. To make it even better I got my first gold badge, the SL one, wasn't even trying for it but I guess having that beacon on the enemy roof, and a full attacking squad that kept dying a lot (myself included) helped a lot. Dying every 30 seconds is not that bad if you're making 3 kills on each console attempt. :D

I'd put it down to the other teaming sucking. The servers I play on in Australia (Internode and GameArena) if you walk into a corridor 1 of many things will happen. You will get cleaned by the splash damage of AR-Rockets, you will get cleaned up by a Grenade, You will get cleaned up by an APM, You will get cleaned by RDX. If none of that is there to stop you it's the Support soldiers and there drones shooting you once you run around the corner. For you to make it down the corridor and get behind the defenders and still be able to shoot them in the back means they are total nubcakes imo. Most Titan rounds end up with the team with the most missile silos winning because the defence on both Titans is so great that no one can get through. I blame this on the tards who stand at the corridor and never attempt to push for the console. I can pop my head around quickly, get a nade down there, kill 1 or 2 then sprint down to the first spine in the wall and kill all the defenders and no one will come down, it takes them about 10 seconds to realise that I have killed off the defenders. Most of the time when I do this I get killed by the guys who come through the shield at the other end while I am shooting the console with my Voss (Because no one else will come down and do it).

It sounds like I've had a similar Battlefield experience as you have, Veovis.

I first started playing BF2 and for the longest time, my K/D record was at like 0.60. But I kept at it and over a fair bit of time I saw my K/D slowly, very slowly creep towards 1.0 and I started being one of the average players in every match. Rarely placing much higher than the middle of the pack at the end of the match, but at least being able to hold my own for the most part and come out of the match with an even K/D record and some decent points with support actions and what not.

This went on for some time, but then one day I had the game of my life! It was like I could do no wrong and I was getting like 5-10 kills per death and it just seemed like everything clicked that particular game. I really thought it was a fluke at first but then my next game was just the same, and then the next, and the next, etc.

So over then next few days, I kept waiting for my games to get back to my usual average level where I would get an even K/D record and have a respectable point total at the end, but again, nothing really stellar.

But it was like I had turned a corner of some kind, and although I would have a bad game every once in a while (and after a while a bad game for me was what I considered a good game previously, i.e. an even K/D and not that many points and placing in the middle of the pack score wise at the end), I still was coming in 1st or 2nd at the end of most matches and it's mostly been the same for me ever since. I'm now in the top 3000 BF2142 players worldwide, and although there are still players who regularly hand me my *** on the field, they are much fewer and farther between and it is usually me who is doing the handing now. :-)

So maybe it wasn't a fluke for you after all, Veovis? Maybe your skills have just improved and you have turned the corner, too!

titan attack would obviously be easy if the defenders were noobs trying to get points who can't aim and don't set traps. But I've played a lot of defense and attack and it's far easier to get a better kdr as defense, you sit and wait and possibly setup apm/rdx/sentry/forcefields and mow everyone down. Which is again why I see more people defending the Titans on both teams than attack.

The servers I play on in Australia (Internode and GameArena).

Same here man :D (i'll keep an eye out for ya)

Titan D on the aussie servers are tight. Corridors are usually set up with a support guy, assault and sometimes a recon if we're felling a little tasty ;D

Can sometimes get very frustrating trying to cap a corridor on a decent server.

Funny, I was just talking about players who regularly hand me my a$$, Black Cougar here (AKA WeeLilCougar) is one of those people who I have a hard time beating (but luckily he is one of the few)!

I know what you mean Cougar about charging the consoles and taking out three or four defenders and then turning around and thinking your team is behind you and you get wasted by the last defender as you are reloading, etc.

But you think, "Cool, well at least I took out the defence and the other players will rush in and take the console, secure the reactor core, etc". And you respawn, get back to where you were and see the same 4 or 5 guys haven't moved (I mean they are sitting RIGHT OUTSIDE the doorway this whole time) and they are in exactly the same place as they were and the defenders have now respawned as well and are back in position again. Very frustrating...

i've noticed that too that u get approx 1.0 kd on defense so offence is the way to go, try telling that to all the other defense pin whores

Hey, a few Aussies around here. :)

Usually the Titan Defence is very strong on the Aussie servers, I can agree with that. When I'm helping around Defending there are Hubs about, IPS Shields, RDX, APMs, Snipers, etc. and our Team would every now and then through a Grenade to scare of anybody attempting to come in. So that's why it's pretty hard to convince your team (as Commander) to grab a few Silos once your shield goes down first.

In other words, first team to lose their shield has a disadvantage (unless they are smart enough to hold some Silos).

Oh man, I have to say 100% opposite to the original post. Definitely a better KDR on a defensive titan, if in both cases you have competent teams. I find the availability of your teams health/ammo boxes stacked up for defense, as well as when you are outside and on top, having the ability to duck back behind your shields (or drop from the top back into the hangar) keeps you alive a lot more. Again this changes if you're attacking a titan that has a sporadic defense with lots of aimless lone-wolfs, but on average I definitely find that with the correct strategy, the defensive play is the best for KDR.

offense is only better if they have a less than decent defense team, else, apms will eat u in the vent and entrance, rdx will blow you and your team up the moment you guys start to move in, rifle rockets will blow you up =/ and the o so good sentry gun through walls will mow you down along with the support gun =D

i would say, in all, defense is much better cause you are the one doing the above =D

My K/D ratio is about 0.2 on offense and 3/1 on defense.

I have been trying for my gold attack for 40 some odd hours and can't seem to get anybody off our titan to come help. I mean I am decent but I can't do it alone. I have been on thier titan with like 2 guys defending, easy win right? not when you try to do it alone, all the while everybody else on my team is sitting on out titan waiting for the attackers.
