View Full Version : Ideal game settings for 48p titan?

I am using:
Athlon 64 3000+
2GB DDR400 RAM
7900GS
When I run at everything medium except 4xAA, texture filtering high and texture and geometry on high I get about 50fps on land... Inside the titan however, it drops to 27fps. What makes it stranger is that outside the titan (at the upper deck) I get only about 15fps!
Those of you running 2142 on 7900 series cards and play 48p titan maps regularly, what settings do you play for a comfortable framerate?
Thanks

I have a slightly faster cpu than you but you have more ram than I do and a better graphics card. My settings are the same as yours but I only use 2xAA.
My frames are great for the most part, but at odd times I will see a big frame rate drops. For the most part my frames are smooth but depending on map frames go from 60-30ish. Inside the titans I can go as low as like 10fps. Sometimes in the titan frames are great 30-40ish. Its just weird.
I would think with 2gigs of ram your frames should be fine. Everything you have is great. I was going to upgrade to 2gigs of ram but it doesnt seem to help? Maybe get rid of some background programs. I see people use messengers services and stuff while playing the game. With bf2 and bf2142 my pc would die with extra programs running in the background. You can also defrag your hard drive. With this game it does make a difference. In the end maybe its not our PC's, maybe its just many flaws of this game engine.

I would try turning the AA down to 2x myself. I'm running an X2 4400+ and a 7900 GTX with mostly high settings, and I still lag with 4X AA enabled.

When I play low my CPU bottlenecks my graphics card, so the most I'm getting is only around 50-60... I got only 30+ fps in the titan itself on low.
As for texture filtering what settings do you guys use?
I play max settings 16x CSAA at 1600x1200 on my 8800GTS. Before the 8800 I had 7900GT's in SLI. I played at 1600x1200 with 2x MSAA with everything maxed except the effects at medium (I think it was effects, it's the one that makes explosions a little less detailed).
The settings I play are 50-60fps during normal gameplay and dropping no lower than 30fps during the huge explosions. That's what I always shoot for. Playing Titan mode can sometimes mess with that though, since sometimes the framerate will dip below 25fps even after the 1.06 patch that stopped Titans from moving after the shields go down.
I'm not complaining, but it's still annoying that the Titan is such a lagfest.

You could, ya know, turn to low graphics and get like 120 FPS in Titans and not even worry about anything...

I get better FPS on all highs than all low's and that better FPS is still 25, im not sure why :S i get about 10 in the titan so I dunno what you guys are complaining about. On a 7900GS that is, with a gig of ram and a 2.6 p4.

As I said my CPU is bottlenecking and the most I went on titan with all low was only 40fps.

What's bottlenecking? Maybe mine is doing that :P

Meaning that the CPU can't keep up with the graphics card. Happens mostly in lower settings...

I have all settings on medium, 100% view distance, 2x AA. Here is a 5 minute fraps benchmark on a 48 player titan, with the whole 5 minutes on the titan. I Respawned on a transport on the enemy titan for the whole 5 minutes, trying to attack well defended consoles.
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
--16489, 300000, 26, 97, 54.963
Nothing has a bigger performance hit then going from 2x AA to 4x AA. 2x AA has very little effect on performance where 4x AA has a much bigger impact. No AA and 2x AA give me the same frames. But if I go to 4x AA I lose about 20-30 % on FPS. I just can deal with that so I keep it at 2x. As my results show, I did go down to 26 FPS but an average of 55 (completely on the titan) is like butter. 1 thing I just now realized...most of the performance complaints are coming from AMD/Nvidia users (which I have always considered the king of gaming configurations, even though I use Intel/ATI). Hmmm... and lets not forget that the only ingame ads right now are from Intel. Conspiracy? I feel sorry for the people having performance issues cause I only got a measly Radeon X800 GT, and I definitly cant complain about how I run. I enjoy Conquest more and I can average well over 100 FPS with my current settings. I always say "He who has the higher FPS, wins the gunfight." I dont even really notice any real difference in picture quality between having your settings on medium or high. Looks the same to me.

That's amazing... My previous 6600gt couldn't even manage low.
For my 7900GS, I'm now using this settings... Getting around 30fps or late twenties...
Terrain High
Effects Med
Geometry High
Texture Med
Lighting Med
Dynamic Shadows Low
Dynamic Lighting Low
AA 2x
Texture Filtering Med
Enhanced Lighting Effect Off
Can you guys post your fps and config as well using this setting? Also if possible try in local multiplayer as it's more balanced. On Minsk 48p local I get around 60-70fps.

All the lag problems on titan games are due to the code, not your system. Even at 48 players, if the titans are within visual distance of each other, the lag will be awful, even on the ground.
Basically, someone forgot to optimise the code. I like titan mode but it's either a laggy APM fest or the titans are so far apart that whichever team gets to the titan first tends to win.

Sounds like a CPU bottleneck OP. If you are confident in your abilities the AMD64 CPUs are pretty overclock-able.
I have a 7800GT and a 3700 and I bottleneck with everything on it's highest setting at 1280x1024. I get very similar performance (50-60 outside of titan, just under 30 inside) to what you have described and to improve your frame rate I would turn off AA and/or AF and turn down your dynamic lights and shadows settings. Keep draw distance and geometry maxed out whatever you decide to.
I will never understand why people want to run multiplayer competitive games on pretty graphics...
I will never understand why people wouldn't want to run multiplayer competitive games on pretty graphics. If your computer has the horsepower to look good while you play, I see no reason not to. So what if the guy in the shadows is actually partially obscured b/c I see shadows where a player on low settings wouldn't see shadows. So what if I don't have over 100fps. I can still see everyone on the battlefield and my score shows that I do quite well IMO. My point is that nice looking graphics are not a handicap while playing with your average gamers. If you're in a tournament playing for prize money then yeah, you'd want to lower your settings, but not for everyday play.

You can just turn AA off, it's a fast paced game anyway, you won't feel the difference.
I play in 1920x1200 and i can barely enable aa, because everything is maxed out and my overclocked 7950 gx2 can't keep up with podding and dust and fast action nearby well enough. I suggest everyone to buy a better processor, not the video card is the main issue in 1024 or 1280. Get a COre 2 Duo, it'll do the trick believe me ;)

At what settings do you notice the bottleneck disappear? My 3000+ is a relatively old Socket 754 version... I get only 6900+ in 3dmark05

I guess I'll try that... What's the difference with AF on and off btw?

what pisses me off is, I cant change my gfx settings or then i have to delete the entire 2142 folder in my docs. No matter what I try i cant do anything without it crashing the next time up.

It seems that the game is CPU limited with lots of people.
I oc'ed my CPU by 300MHz and I get about 25fps average with lots of people compared to 15fps before.
