Put this in your target of your BF2142 shortcut:

+widescreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900

Change the resolution as you want.

I have been using this for 3 weeks and have NOT been kicked by PB, EVER.

Screenshots of it in action:

NOTE: I do not know if the FOV is "true" widescreen, but I have noticed that I am able to see more of my sides than running the game on 1280x960.

Just looks stretched to me seeing the screenies but the command has been known for a while.

I ran a search and didn't pick up anything, just the age old +fullscreen method.

It's just stretching, you can tell by the minimap.

there is no such thing as a +widescreen switch

there is no difference

... AND there are enough topics about that already ...

Unless they allow FOV changes, you still see the same amout as everyone else but it does look good...cant wait to get my widescreen. It only looks stretched to those who arent used to it. Someone used to widescreen will say that a normal monitor looks "squished".

It looks stretched when you use a normal 4:3 resolution on a widescreen monitor because the monitor will stretch it to fit. I would need to use a camera to show you this because a screenshot won't show it.

When I then used +szx 1680 +szy 1050 it all looks fine apart from the UI being stetched as you can see in the screens above. As you can see above, you can see more of the gun in wisescreen resolutions so you do have a bit more of an advatage with a bit extra view but look on the left and the edge of the screen finishes with the same scenery in both screenshots so I don't know WTF is going on there.

BF2142 does not support widescreen option...
This has been said in the beta phase and has not changed in the retail version.

WE KNOW

Else why would we be forcing it?

the only thing thats stretched is the 2d overlay hud, the 3d graphics are just fine. btw, the command line adjustment has been around for years, its a sticky in one of the forum sections and theres been tons of threads, just search widescreen. now if we could only get a true POV wide screen fix. drevor is correct, typing widescreen in the command line makes absolutely no diffrence over leaving full screen, only the stuff after +szy matters.

With these screenshots, 3D graphics look slightly streched too.
Not only the minimap.

Unfortunately there is no "real widescreen" in BF2142 as you see the same amount on "widescreen" or 4:3

People who don't have widescreen monitors seem to have the impression that it looks streched. But I do use a widescreen 15.4" TFT of a notebook, but not for gaming.

My game stops working and I have to reinstall if i want to change and video settings, from any way shape or form.

The funny thing is, the alleged reason there is no true widescreen is that EA/DICE feel it would be an advantage to have a wider peripheral view than other players. So, when you put in these command line switches, they "zoom" the real image and crop the top and bottom a bit so that the same image fits the wider screen. To me it is still an advantage, because distant objects seem larger and closer. Check the Church in the screenshots above to see what I mean. The Church seems bigger in widescreen even though it is the same distance away.

I think his point is that the +widescreen doesn't make a difference (as was shown by Drevor), as compared to the +fullscreen option. The original post suggested one should use it, when in fact it makes no difference.

There is absolutely no difference between +fullscreen and +widescreen.

This is ancient news.
