View Full Version : So I got Brigadier General.. now what?

No more unlocks to work towards, just some left over badges I could take the time to get.. Exciting.. As far as trying to achieve the higher ranks.. Unless I'm dishing out ridiculous play time or stat padding I don't see this happening. I guess it makes sense to give the higher ranks to the non-casual gamer who can pump out endless playtime.
I just wish there was something in between. Few more unlocks/ranks, something for the casuals. Sure casually I can attain the next 2 ranks in a few months, but what really had me hooked was the idea of deciding which item I would unlock next. Now there's nada.. Just a rant, nothing more..

Well I bought my own server so that will keep me going, but if i didn't I would take the top rank as the end of my BF2142 outing. Trying to get to the top of a leaderboard and staying there would be too frustrating and would become a chore so really there's only the awards and then wait for expansions.

You still have a lot of awards left, and now that you maximized your rank - you can sit back and just play for fine and not for points.
If the unlocks were a big part for you, you might want to go play an mmorpg or normal rpg's - since that's what those games are centered around.

Ditto,
Start up a clan, get some good players. Show you greatness on the publics by being one of those brilliant SL's.
How you managed to rack up so many points is beyond me. I play almost every day and I'm only in the Junior Comissioned Ranks at the moment.
Oh, and if more unlocks are coming out, I demand a respec with every expansion that contains unlocks. Otherwise, it isn't fair to us 'casual' players who can only squeeze 4-8 hours of play a day;)
why aren't you just happy that you can have your pick of whatever kit you want in the game? if i want to have a decent support or recon layout i either have to start a new player or just deal with my limited items. you've got everything there is to get item-wise, so use it!

spend more time collecting dogtags
or think that this game is more than just badges and pins ill gladly give up points to make sure we win like on cerebre landing go engineer and stop all the car rushes to the rear

you people are sad,, he plays titan, plain and simple, he knows where the real points are and he plays it, just like every other player playing for points. the saddest thing of all are people that cry padder because someone is a better, like anything else in life theres always going to be someone better than you, the difference is if you can accept it and respect a better player or just cry padder.
to the op, if i were you id concentrate on one weapon, start kicking butt with it and rise to the top leader board for your favorite weapon, most of all, just have fun, this stat system has destroyed the gaming for fun concept.

Well take a lesson from me, i used to play video games ALOT and i mean most of my living day. The only time i didnt was when i eat and went out with friends. I then realized that i was considerably wasting my time and so i decided to take up guitar. 3 years down the line and im almost grade 6 and it was one of the best things i have done. Or, you could do what gamers used to do back in the old days before meaningless and trivial "rewards" were introduced...
...You could play the game for fun.
I know, its a very scary concept. It can be difficult for some to know how to obtain this "fun" when its not explicitly made into a rewards system. I'm thinking about starting a fun-challenged support group ;)
Counting Field Unlocks, I've also reached the no-more-new-weapons plateau, and I have MANY of the badges and ribbons and whatnot to still "collect". At some point, I may get around to actually altering my playstyle to obtain these arbitrary benchmarks, but that will probably only happen once the fun of BF2142 starts to fade. Till then, I'll just continue improving my game and learning to kick arse better and better - and have fun in the process :p
Edit: Didn't read all the way through the entire thread....but yeah, *FMJ*Power hit the nail on the head as well.

That's the problem with the stats and point-system. The rank doesn't reflect how good you are, but is a function of how many hours you play. Everyone will reach these high ranks if they spend enough time playing.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not claiming that you do not play well - I have no way of knowing one way or the other.
my point is that ranks should be reflective of a players' skill - something that can be won and lost.
Most importantly, the stats and unlocks have screwed up too many players heads - they play to progress, just like in Everquest or something. They forget that there are only 2 good reasons to play: to have fun and to get your team a team-victory.
Alas, the point system is so noobishly designed that it doesn't promote this kind of play - the value of a team-win is insignificant and you can get so much more personal career points in other ways.
Congrats with the high rank - it shows a lot of dedication to the game.
It's also been proven the playing video games makes you less violent due to you exhausting your Stress over a virtual world rather than the real one. So both have there good points :P
That may be true. But if you compare someone that's spent 8 hours a day playing BF to another that spent those same 8 hours studying music, over a long period of time, the gamer would seem like relaxed-retard in comparison... ;)

I agree with the poster a few pages back... what ever happened to playing the game just for fun? Remeber those days? I find it hilarious that people devote most of their waking day to get their stats/awards/unlocks as quick as possible and then a mere month or so after release they are "bored". Try to pace yourself next time maybe.... see a movie, go outside, live a little huh?

Now I got Brigadier General ..........So what?
Delete your account. Create a new one. Then.............
Just play.
Play with out anything in mind other then trying to help the team win. Base all your decisions on that premise. Don't look at your score , or your stats.
Join a squad or create one. Look at the team scores and let that determine what you think you should do. Or if there's a commander giving orders and your an SL follow them no matter what the cost to your stats.
And if your team is losing continue to fight and scrap and make the best of a bad situation.
You'll find the game takes on an entirely different feel.

You play for the ends and not the means.
It's not about the destination it's the journey man.
I play for the moment, the dance between me and the enemy amidst a firefight. The girlscout badges and the ranks and the rest of it, are all a byproduct of honest gameplay and quite frankly an afterthought.
If your soul satisfaction from this game was some virtual scooby snacks I thinik that you have missed the boat.
You were doomed from the beginning.
Why not try organized team play? Explore tactics and teamwork and raw combat effectiveness. Join a clan or a competition league like TWL or CAL.
Or I guess you could just sit and see if EA throws you a bone and gives you a few more meaninless ranks or badges to zombie grind for. pffft.

I was not attacking you personally, I was just saying in general...but since now you insisted I think I will take the time to say that yes, I think someone like YOU that can play for 8 days of just over a month of release has way too much free time. That's almost a third of a month doing nothing else but playing BF!! And thats not counting all the boot ups, restarts, etc.. which would add so much more time. Hey I love the game also, but at 21 years old I was out of college, working full time, and was married. Even if I had all that free time, I would do different things not focus on just one. So in fact you are the one who needs to GIVE IT UP.

I don't agree with this. It certainly works for you, but not for everyone. To each his own. The key with games like this is that, sure, you can have a girlfriend, but as long as you don't live with her, you're ok heh. In university, I was a quake1/2/3 fiend - played all the time. You can socialize, date, etc - as long as you cut class, and/or not need to work part-time to pay the bills, you'll still have plenty of time to play. The real key is to not live with the girlfriend... I say, if you have the free time and you're young, why the hell not. There is plenty of time for responsibility later - you're not going to get the prime gaming years back. Once you're married and/or living with a girl (I am the former), you need to spend a bit more time with her, and not game 8 hrs a day (like we all wish we could). If you're like my buddy Doom, who is in a long-term relationship yet not living with her, you have many, many more hours to play games. Too bad his PhD requires him to "work" heh.
Again, to each his own. If you can goof off and get away with it and enjoy it, why the heck not. Life is short.
