hi guys,
i know a lot of people have it, but when i got video settings option, the highest resolution there is 1024x768, i play this game 2 months and i know a lot of people have res problem, but see in this pic, the reviewers can have higher res.
http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2006/11/03/Battlefield_2142/3.html
is it becuz bf2142 doesn't recognize my video card properly, and that's why i get very low fps??

Does your monitor support over 1024x768?

yea my native resolution is 1280x1024

What kind of video card do you have?

I have a 7800GTX and I can go all the way up to 1600 X 1200.

Which video card are you using and which drivers? Can you play other games or run Windows at 1280x1024?

i have LCD (KDS 19"), but still, so bf2142 doesn't recognize my card or something? is that a reason i get very low fps?

I can't test this out but I think the higher your video settings are the lower are the available resolutions (based on the capability of your specific card).

Low fps could be because your settings are too high for your system overall.

Additionally, when fully loaded the game itself will use more than 1 gig of memory which will force your system to swap to disk a lot... which will also degrade the game performance. Have you considered getting another 1 gig?

no, cuz even on 800x600 low settings i get no more than 20fps in battles, and 10fps inside of titans...
i started thread http://www.totalbf2142.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12914
a lot of people said it was bottleneck, but i don't think it is , cuz i was able to run oblivion on 1280x1024 on hi - and have average of 24fps
and in bf2142 it's all messed up

Please dont tell me the salesman said more memory on a cheap gfx card was better than savin the pennies and getting a decent one

make sure you have system drivers for your mottherboard up to date.THat can mean a big gain in performance as well. You should be getting well over 40 fps or more. Also have you checked out if you can overclock the cpu as well?

This is strange, the resolution in the pic is not officially supported by the game. Perhaps this is a mod or hack?

My max setting is 1024x768 as well despite my max and native res. being 1920x1080. That said, there is a way to get custom resolutions that are not available via the drop down in game settings. Once you enable this suffix command, 1024x768 is still listed as the current setting, despite the resolution being different.

Ok, so here is the simple workaround that is completely punkbuster friendly and accepted by DICE/EA ...

Right click on the Battlefield 2142 shortcut and click on properties in the properties of the popup. In the "Target" box, hit the space bar and add this to the end if you want 1280x1024 support: +szx 1280 +szy 1024

So in the end, your shortcut's target box would read something like this: "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +ignoreAsserts 1 +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 768

I'm not sure that this will solve the framerate issue, but it will allow you to play at the native resolution of you monitor. Using this method, you can you virtually any resolution you want just by modifying the taxget box suffix command.

If this does not solve you fps issue, and i assume it will not, please post your system specs so we can help you get up and running.

thanks for reply's guys -
yea i knew how to make a dif. resolution, but i mean there is no point of doin it cuz my fps would go to zero
yea so i can't o/c my cpu, and don't really want to, and i m not a fan of o/c - i was tryina o/c my video card once but it was going too hot... anyways my specs are:

Chaintech VIA SK8T800 (AGP (2 mem slots))
Athlon 64 2800+
1GB RAM - Corsair 2x512 DDR-400 (Value Select)
Radeon X850XT (AGP)
Yahoo/SBC DSL

[ i have one xtra Kingston 512mb (not value one - but i dunno timing, so i decided to have 2 same brand ones, instead 2 different ones]

My bf2142 video settings are:
1024x768 @60Hz
Everything on low (even textures - look so ugly - med. textures makes a huge difference)
No Lighting Option
90% visual distance

Conquest: I get 30 fps where nobody is near, and 20-24fps when people r around (in battles)
Titan: 30fps when nobody around, 17-24fps in battles, 10-14fps inside of titans when there shootings goin on.

same fps on 800x600, but i couldn't stand the ugliness of game when i played on it,
i think i will change textures to medium and have lower fps, but at least it won't look that ugly.

As in my sig, I have

P4 3GHz
1GB ram
7900GS 256mb turboforce edition

and I can run this game at max settings, including AA 4x. Thats if I have like 27 processes running though. I just dont understand why bf2 cant go anywhere near those setting sithout being really stuttering, and it doesnt even look as good as 2142.

exactly. see how weird it is? i know ur video card is more powerful, but i don't have sm3, so i should have really big increase in fps,
basically i m supposed to have 1280x1024 hi settings (even wit no aa, af) and run it smoothly

well... Try and get a new card, i dont know much about ATI cards but isnt the one you have a really old one?

It isn't that old.

And I have an X850XT PCI-E and can have a resolution of 1280x960. Which is odd, because that would be widescreen - yet it appears to be identical to 1280x1024 (but that doesn't show up in the drop down menu :/)

EDIT:
Chaintech VIA SK8T800 (AGP (2 mem slots))
Athlon 64 2800+
1GB RAM - Corsair 2x512 DDR-400 (Value Select)
Radeon X850XT (AGP).

I think your low framerate problem is caused by your processor. Your card is good and your RAM shouldn't be a hindrance, but the game is very processor heavy.

If you can't get a new processor, I suggest shutting down as many background processes as you can to help free up some CPU power. Assuming you're not doing that already.

oh well in that case im sorry but i dont know why your having resolution problems and frame rate problems, i feel for you i really do i know how frustrating it is to not be able to play a game that your card should easily play.

I have a X1900 Crossfire with 512Mb, 2Gb of RAM and a AMD 4000+ CPU and yet when on high with 4xAA I can also only get a resolution of 1280x960 from the in game menu. Yet when I force the game to match the native resolution of my monitor (1280x1024) I am still getting 70-90FPS.

Seems the game isn't optimised for ATI cards and uses a default resolution selection for them.

getting performacne doesn't just rely on the gfx card and cpu specs, it also relies on how many useless programs u have running in the background of windows. I have upon startup 15 max, 16 with BF2 running. I am able to run BF2 with high & medium settings @1280x1024 native res @ 75hz with an average of 42fps on the 8421 drivers.

Look Here (http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html) for a tweak guide to strip XP

thanks for reply's - the only programs that r running in background are:
my anti-virus, windowsblinds(i m using dif. visual style) and all microsoft programs (i disabled all of em in msconfig), yea so it's all clean
i also don't think it's cpu bottleneck, cuz i ran oblivion fine on 12x10 on hi settings.
when the new drivers will be released, i think i would use drivercleaner program, maybe some old video card drivers files are still in the system and they r causing this?

Some Anti-Virus programs take huge amounts of resources when they're running. Norton and McAfee, for example. If you're running a lighter anti-virus like AVG you should be fine - but even so, I'd suggest disabling it while you play. It could make a lot of difference.

I also think Windowblinds is a needless waste of resources, but I don't think it's something you can just disable while you play. No idea how much CPU/RAM it takes up - but any amount is bad, really.

On Oblivion running fine: That's good, but it has nothing to do with this game. Different games work in different ways, and just because you can run one game fine does not mean another will work quite as well.

Cleaning up old video card drivers when you update is always advisable, but to be honest I never do anything more than the standard ATi Uninstall when I upgrade and I've not noticed any problems.

i m using AVG right now, used to have Kasperky befo
i tried disabling windowsblinds before playing, and didn't give me any increase in fps, i guess it's just a bug that i would neva able to fix
i think i will use drivercleaner, becuz i m using omegadrivers and catalyst, so i guess there are some leftovers

its a combo of your video card, memory and cpu. in all honesty thats about all the fps your going to get out of that setup, you probably got better performance in oblivion because of the AI it uses. make sure you have the catalyst AI enabled in the ati control panel, try using advanced and normal AI, test and see if one gives better fps. you may also want to lower your mipmap detail level in the catalyst to get more fps out of it. give the built in overclocker a shot to, it might squeeze out a few more fps also.

this game is more demanding graphically than allot of others. im running two x1900 cards in crossfire on a E6700 chip and i can not touch the performance i get in bf2, in fact i lowered my resolution to 1680x1050 for 2142 and i still get on average 50fps less than i did with bf2 running completely maxed at 1920x1200. this game does demand allot from your system so having less fps than other games is normal. just tweak with those mipmaps and the AI in the control panel, that will get you the most noticeable difference.

Yea, i wouldn't expect that great of a framerate wit your setup, but probably a little higher than what you are getting with all settings on low.

I would also recommend uninstalling with drivercleaner pro and installing the latest drivers.

Have you tried deleting the shaders cache folder in C:\Documents and Settings\yourprofilename\My Documents\Battlefield 2142\mods\bf2142 ? If not, doing so forces the game to rebuild the shaders when loading a map. If sometimes helps when resolving all sorts of issues.

One last thing i would definitely recommend, as it helped me when nothing else worked when i was unable to get antialiasing to enable, is that you could try fully uninstalling and reinstalling 2142 - it doesn't take all that long and since the patches so far are quite small and quick to download.

For instructions on how to do a complete uninstall can be found here (http://forums.filefront.com/showpost.php?p=3379000&postcount=3). Note - i did not have some of the registry keys that are in the instructions, but i did the rest and it fixed my issue.

thanks for advises - i reinstalled it before (but not completely), but i will try all the advises when next drivers would come out... - use drivercleaner, uninstall completely...
btw, i have your uninstaller program ,which deletes all the registry files automatically.
and also, the weird thing is, i went from 1024x768 low to hi, and have same fps in conquest (haven't tried titan yet ) - i might change to hi next time - maybe it will stll be same...

Just curious, are you talking about a program that removes the 2142 registry items? Does it do so for other apps/games/devices? I know of apps like CCleaner, but they don't remove 2142 reg. items natively(as far as i know).

davidhye
12-12-2006, 04:54 AM
Nah, it's just a program called Your Uninstaller 2006, which not just deletes the program, it also deletes registry files that are connected to the program
i m not sure if it would delete bf2142 reg files, but i think it supposed to
