View Full Version : Proportional Scoring

This is just an idea I've been toying with for a bit, and I wondered what you people would tink of it. Basically, it is to acknowledge the fact that it's much harder to kill a major general (or it would be if he hadn't got there by statpadding) than a recruit playing his first round. Therefore, the difference between the killer and his victim's rank dictate the score. This encourages the top players to seek out worthy opponents and gives a recruit a chance to get on a bit quicker without being wasted by top rankers.

Pretty good idea... I'd be getting a lot of points. :p

There are some bad sides to that however, It would make stat padding a hell of a lot easier

It's a good idea, but could lead to 'fightclubbing' where people consentually kill each other over and over to get alot of points quickly.

So instead of 300 a round, they get 900? Sorry but that's not a very good argument against the idea :P
That being said, I wouldn't mind if the points earned were still pretty small like 3 points for someone higher than you, 2 for someone around your level and 1 for below.

this has been brought up in a bunch of threads in the past, I made a pretty good comment (I think at least) about it quite a while ago, if you can find that post, I think I look at ways to handle the negatives of it, and make it so that it's practically balanced.

turns out the last time this was brought up was only a month ago, this is not the post I was looking for, but it's in there anyway.

If only rank were any indication of skill.
I'd rather see a points revision where you're awarded more for a harder kill, and less for an easier one.
Example:
Infantry [kill] Vehicle = 3 points
Vehicle [kill] Vehicle = 2 points
Vehicle [kill] Infantry = 1 point
etc.
Oh, and I'd make passive kills (AP mines, Motions mines, Sentry gun) award half the points of active kills (where you actually do something to get the kill, like use a gun, knife, or cannon).

Sorry... I did a search but I put in the wrong terms obviously.

Rewarding players for killing people higher in the ladder than you is a pretty good idea, however players who just join who are really good would just get a whole heap of easy points to start with.
I think a handicap system would be an alternative. It would essentially calculate how well you did against the opposition. Taking into account your average performance (spm, kdr etc ) and how good the players you played against.
I wouldn't want to punish people who are good and I think it would just be added to career points not to the actual round ladder. So a private who isn't that great kills lots of high ranked good players gets extra career points, just like away points or commander bonus.

Rank = Time, not skill.
Very few high ranked players are actually amazing.

i believe that there is a game coming out that is implementing that exact system... cant remember the name of it... i wanna say crysis, but i know that isnt it... one of the other things they were doing was that your rank and points were used to "buy" things in game, as in, every time your jet ran out of ammo, you had to land, get out and walk over to a resupply area to buy more bombs... keeps people from whoring the equipment

I'd like to see:
1 kill = 1 point (as is)
1 SL kill = 2 points
1 Cmdr kill = 3 points
or some similar variation. :)

i wouldn't want to encourage killing commanders especially if they are hiding out somewhere actually doing commander stuff. they are vulnerable and it's kinda cheap to kill him. plus officers are usually not targeted in combat.

Proportional Scoring was always a bad idea in mmofps... that would make "only - high - ranked people only" servers, therefore more conflict between players. killing some of the fun. Also, think of other consequences.. perhaps it would be a good idea, but in some other hands then EA/DICE - they should [as a 'team' ] just stick to Battlefield series and other fps'es alike. Do NOT add RPG there.

ahhh yup, it is crysis....
If you're a lower scoring player and you kill a high scoring player, you'll earn more points than if he were to kill you. It helps with balancing so that the people on top don't reign forever.

Killing the cmdr hinders the entire team, so it's not cheap. And I don't know what history books you've studied but officers have always been high priority targets.
