I wanna love this game but it seems I'm always getting my butt kicked. The problem is I get real frustrated and leave the field for months at a time. I really want to stick around but at the moment its real hard...lol. Sometimes I hold my own, but most of the time I get my arse kicked. Medic....lol!!!

I think I should start from ground zero and just have fun. I'm not the kind of guy who looks to be promoted. I'd rather be a team player and play as a unit, then go for individual stats.

Any suggestions, please post them. I really like the game, but truthfully I don't think I have actually played 2142 more than two hours at a time.

Thanks for any advice

I know what you mean, this game is a never ending well of frustration for me.

I find it's best not to go rushing into a fight. Try to think about what you're going to do next and take your time about it, by that i dont mean stroll your way to the flag, i mean just give yourself time to think. ALWAYS check your radar, situational awareness is key in this game.

Maybe you're just playing as the wrong class for your playstyle.

The best games I have are ones where I have a good squad that talks with each other. I'm usually assault, so if I can do a good job and keeping my squad going, I'm pretty happy with that. Sometimes I catch myself getting mad (when I'm getting my butt kicked), but then I take a breath and remind myself it's only a game and I'm here to have fun. I have really good days and really bad days and alot in between.

thanks I really only play Assault. Yes, that is one of my problems. You see I use to be pretty good in COD 2. I know both games are different. I will take your advice for the next server I play on. thanks Nemesis908

I'd say start with recon, body shots from a good distance until you get comfortable with the engine and move up at your own pace.

Just pick support class (lol).. Then sit back, listen for battles and watch the minimap to see where the enemies are.

Much of BF2142 is getting the initiative on enemy, not rushing into unknown situtations. If you just don't have good aim then pick recon and sneak across the map and blow up the emp dish etc..

My friend was getting killed a lot and I noticed playing him that he had poor positioning, he was just picking places that it was easy to see and sneak up on.

Pick a good snipe spot, get a couple kills then move on before someone sees you.

Also the APC second position gun (three glowing balls of death) is deadly. Jump in that thing in Fall of Berlin and rack up the frags.

Have you tried practising in Single Player? Play a couple of maps and slowly turn up the Bot Difficulty. I know its not like playing against other players online, but thats how i practise with new weapons, etc.

I feel you man...if you have'nt played any of the other battlefield games it can be a bit tough to get use to the nerds that have been playing forever(include myself in the nerds category...lol). I myself have been playing since 1942 came out(the first bf game), so I can hold my own out there in the battlefield...usually in the top 5 spots most rounds.

The trick to this game(at least what works for me) is never to rush or sprint into a firefight or flag. Like some guys here already said, positioning is the key. I'm not saying camp all day, but move slowly from spot to stop, or from flag to flag. Also, when your aproaching a corner try to walk croushed down. When your moving slowly you have a higher chance of better aim. When croushed, the reticle also gets a bit smaller giving you a tighter cone of bullet spread.

Also, no matter what distance from your oponent, always try to aim at the head. Aiming high will give you the advantage over someone that has a more powerfull weapon or the same weapon class as you. For example, if someone with a baur is in close quarters againts you and you have a less powerfull weapon, aiming at his head will most probably get you the kill.

If all else fails, then just go play at skunks server...lol...they are really good sports there and skunk is just a great guy...lol.

I'd suggest just getting in a squad that works as a team
Easier to learn from others and a team is better than independence

It depends on what it is exactly you wish to be good at. Decide on a role on the battlefield and stick with it for a while. Suffer the learning curve and know that you will die more often than most others, but keep practicing.

Observe and learn from your mistakes. Situational awareness and observation skill, combined with plain old experience, is the only way you will improve. Practice is the key to all of the above.

A few pointers can help alleviate the frustration faction:
- observe before you enter a danger zone
- never travel alone
- increase your survival-time and bring an armored vehicle
- practice shooting skills in single-player
- join a squad: even if you dont' kill very often, you can assist on achieving objectives
- learn to crouch before you shoot

All in all, gameplay is very repetitive on each map, because of the design of the maps. Vehicles have no offroad-capabilities and stick to the roads most of the time.

Practice, practice, practice...

Good luck :-)

If none of what they have posted helps, choose the right server size. Maybe your jumping into a 64 player conquest server and just have to many people to think about and deal with. Trying the smaller servers out might help you learn maps, try out classes at a slower pace, and learn some things by watching teammates. Maybe you should try out commander mode, which is RTS instead of FPS. There are some many different ways to play this game, you just have to find your style.

It takes some getting used to believe me.
I came from RTCW & Quake 3/4 and the biggest thing I had difficulty adjusting to was not having my shots hit the things my crosshair was sitting on.

First off, you really need to get a feel for the spread & recoil system in this game if you want to develop a good gun as an assault player.

Start off in city map servers like Cerbere Landing and stick to servers that are 8v8 or 10v10.

Less spam, no (or limited) vehicles, just you and 8-10 targets.

Trust me; your gun skill will develop much faster in these types of servers as opposed to the 40+ man random spam fests.

Don't play on servers that lag down your rig or connection. If the action gets jerky, then your natural reflexes and aim are gonna be handicapped.

Me also being on the evening of my gaming reflexes need to think a bit ahead also. You just can't compete with these 15 year olds with lighting reflexes so you need to know more about the game than they do. Very good tips have been here how to learn the ropes of this game.

I would like to stress learning the map and not to play on too big servers before you can hang on there on your own. Pick a nice map and play almost exlusively on that one, so you get to know the map very well. This benefits you that you are familiar with the map and not be in disadvantage it that way (I figure you need every advantage you can get right now). As an added bonus you learn the game mechanics on the side, where and when to shoot and how to move.

You wrote how you play assault, which in my opinion is a very good choice to start with. Join a squad which moves as a group, spawn on the leader and follow him around. But don't be the first on the front. Always trail and pick the pieces. If your leader/member kills someone good, if he loses then you can finish off the enemy or have a knowledge of the danger zone ahead. The more time you can survive on the field the better your chances of actually learning the trade and hot spots and places.

If you've ever played company of heroes act like your a squad of infantry, move from cover to cover, always looking/covering before moving up, find a good squad and work with them in advancing and the firefights.

Random tips:
-dont go prone unless your a sniper, you're going to want the mobility.
-assault is great for learning since you can heal yourself when you get yourself hurt.
-suppress your enemy, if you can get them to duck/prone out of view you can move forward and 'bunker' them, fall back and heal, or flank them.
-use the mini map when there is a uav overhead. you've got a better chance of killing someone when you know where they are and they dont know where you are. (also applied to suppressing an enemy)
-move move move move move! if you stay in one spot too long you're going to be spotted and then targeted.
-if you hear shots near you, you've been spotted. fire back if you can and hold for 5 seconds till you get off the enemy radar, then move forward undetected again.
-find a squad with the uav drone (otis) and stick with him, its free wallhacks.
-look overhead once in awhile and check for enemy UAV drones, if you see one dont try to be sneaky.
-dont move blindly forward, even if no one is there, move up to cover, hold and scan for 2-3 seconds then move forward.
-aim for the head. best practice would be another game: counter-strike
-always spot enemies before/at the time of shooting them, just hit q before you fire your first shot.
-if you see something you cant take, hide from it. Its better to fight at another location then to be killed by a camping APC.
-play more, and get used to the maps, get to know the little paths to flank and keep an eye on the sniper nests.
-use pk rockets, if you dont use them, unlock them and learn to use them.
-learn the limits of your weapon, clip size, damage and range.
-never engage on the front lines unless you need to, most of the time you're going to live longer and get more kills if you flank.
-nothing is wrong with falling back, if you look at your mini map and you seem to be the closest team member to an enemy flag/frontline fall back and stick with another teammate, travel in packs, if your squaded or not.
-hold each life you have with a chance to do something great, stay alive with all means possible, falling back, calling a medic, using teammates as shields, ducking, at some rare cases rushing.
last but not least, try using single shot, and practice with it. It may be hard at the beginning but once you get it down theres not much that can stop you.

Decide which mode to concentrate on.. Titan or Conquest.

Get in squads... always... and follow orders.

Hopefully, you will get field upgrades so you can use some weapons you haven't unlocked yet.

If you find some you like, concentrate on unlocking those first.

until you get the hang of things, get in a group and just tag along...as support perhaps, and supply ammo.

unfortunately, the longer this game is out, the tougher it will be to play. With the large variety of weapons combinations, the experience carried over from BF2, and more players....do the math.

Good Luck !

yes, i would recommend going in a squad as you are less likely to die, if you's stick together plus, there usually at least 1 medic who would be able to revive you, and for kits i would recommend going support if your having trouble, as the lmg's get more accurate the longer you hold down the trigger, which helps alot if your not that great at aiming.

But also get to know the maps, learn where the choke points are, and the pathways most people stick to, if you know that you can set up ambushes etc

you need to have good positioning/observation and know when the best time to shoot is, without giving them a chance to get you

Not being mean in anyway here but you will need to have good positioning etc because (not always the case) with you being older, you are more likely to have slower reaction times than us younger ones, so if you where to use your head more and think of the best times to do stuff etc

Good luck

ps: nothing to do with the subject but; namvet, how have you only got:
5 = Gold
3 = Silver
9 = Bronze

me ...i dont care about my stats.im feild commissar silver and i dont really care about it. i get many points in a round because i listen, observe, and always have at least 1 person moving with me as support. I hardly ever run out of ammo or die. the one person i have following me i have be assult or support depending on what kit i am. if i die they revive me if im out of ammo they resupply me. My tactics i use are sometimes realy military tactics. I know some formations that a marine showed me in a server, also how to identify the best possible cover to use. With those tactics i useually get to the back base, cap it then start caping other bases, in the rounds my squad will be one of those top squads, and i rack up alot of points. as for what i see people play like, i can tell who is not a team player and does not no what the meaning of teamwork is. and **** points and fewild unlocs at the moment the only feild unlocks im able to get is that anti-air rocket and the accipiter, THEY BOTH SUCK.

i dont care about the points i arn really. the badges i got i never even tried to get them i just kept getting them as i played. i never new what the requirments were for them i just get them.

I assume you mean do the kills as Commander by Orbital Strike count toward the badges...I haven't found that to be the case...You could do it in BF2 though...

( you do get a bronze, silver, or gold medal if your doubled score is high enough, but it isn't alwys the case )

First off, my Titan skills are very poor...

so I haven't gotten the "Titan Destruction Achievement Badge" yet...altho I have managed to destroy one Console and one Core somehow.... lol

I have the Bronze of the "Titan Defense Excellence Badge"

I don't have the "Titan Combat Excellence Badge" yet...

I don't have the "Collectors Badge" yet.. and may never get 7 knife kills in one round...

as for silvers I have....

"Support Service", Engineer Service", Engineer Excellence",

and gold I have,

"Squad Leader Badge", "Commander Excellence Badge", "Resupply Service Badge", "Explosive Gallantry Badge", and "Recon Service badge"

the remaining Bronze I have are...

"Assault Service", "Pistol Commendation" ( took forever ), "Air Defense", "Titan Commander", "Medic Excellence", "Armor Service", "Aircraft Service", "Transport Service"

To get all Silver or all Gold in these Badges, to me, is more of an accomplishment than Leaderboard numbers...

Your problem is completely obvious. You're getting mad when you die. Forget it, its a game. Make a newb character and die a lot, that's what I did. My K-D was like 0.81 because I was basically jumping from one APM mine to the next and commiting suicide every 3rd round.

I suggest you just forget about your stats and start trying to survive out there. Everytime you die, you should learn a new lesson on how to stay alive. Now that I'm used to the maps and the kits in this game, I made a new character and his K-D is much better. You'll get the hang of it, just don't worry about your stats while learning how to pwn.

Everyone sucks when they first start.

Don't try and over-complicate things.

Battlefield and FPS games are really just, pointing the cursor at a picture and clicking the mouse.

Now, there are different ways and techniques to get better.

I'd recommend playing singleplayer against the bots. But to be honest, playing Multiplayer is alot harder. You're contending with the run and gun guys that have no strategy and just try and get as many kills as possible. You're contending with the smart a$$, military wannabes who move in formation and you're contending with the stat padders and the spawn killers.

To beat them all, here is the secret.

"Pick your kills and pick your times!"

If you see an enemy, make sure he's not surrounded by other enemies. If he's looking away, run up to him so you're about five feet away, equip your knife and own that dude.

Get into the proper mindset. Think like a soldier, and you shall become a soldier. You'll die alot, but you'll kill alot and thats what makes 2142 so exciting.

It's strange, i don't get much time to play as i'm a full-time student but i never really have any problems with getting "owned". Maybe it's because i grew up on a diet of first person shooters that i'm naturaly good at 2142? If i could recomend a class i'd recomend playing assault with the medic unlock (defibrilator thing) and the mini rocket attachment. The Voss is far superior to the Baur in ease of use but once you know how to use the Baur it's deadly, i always use the Voss though because i like the large clip and accuracy.

You're not playing against the computer anymore, you're playing in the computer with other REAL people. You think they're just going to stand there for you to learn how to aim and lead a target? Hell no, this is in your face Battlefield action. You either got the guts to keep going or you already ran to Mommy crying.

Best way if your having trouble is get on a team and use the VOIP. If you want pointers its best to get them in game over the VOIP, that way you can actually be taught first hand. You can make me a buddy and hop on a server with me if you want, I will be glad to teach you the basics.
