He is correct for all the people that have removed or renamed the movie/intro files replacing them means you can ALT/TAB, I have just replaced mine and have ALT/TABBED here to write this and gone back to game NPs. :)

Alt + tab does not work everytime. I've never renamed any of my intro movies so I still have the default installation. Alt + tab works probably 65% of the time for me. The other times it just sits on a black screen and 2142 goes into "Not responding" mode.

My alt-tabbing never had a problem to begin with, but then again I followed the TOS and didn't modify or edit any of the game's files except for the screenshot in my sig of course. :evil:

Isn't there a shortcut command, like those that alow you to auto log in, that alows you to skip the movies. I remember there was one for BF2, I just never used it cause I had renamed the movies already.

Yeah but restoring the intro files fixed alt tabbing while the game engine is loaded. Before it would just go to a black screen and stop responding.

Just let me repeat this because it worked for me and countless others and I have no idea why:

I have 2 Gig's of RAM, game still crashes occasionally when I alt+tab. That doesn't stop me, as it still works most of the time and I alt+tab out alot. But occasionally, 2142 will stop responding. Rest of my comp is an 8800GTS and 4800+ with dual 74Gig Raptor HDD's. Where else should I upgrade? :p

Hmm, this is interesting, I will have to see if this helps. It might be a good experiment to see if there is one specific movie file that is the problem. If you can disable all the others except that one, it might be a good compromise to be able to alt tab. everyone post your results!

I changed the names of the intro movies and added the auto login to the shortcut on my desktop, I have 2gb of ram and I crash EVERY TIME I alt tab when a game has been loaded, and 1/2 the time when im just sitting on the menu disconnected from a game. I'm at work right now and I'm interested if this really works, cant wait to go home and try it out.

Well as my earlier post it does work I put all the intro files back and now I can ALT/TAB during a game and back without a hitch, before I replaced the files all I got was black screen and BF2142 not responding, Now after putting them back all is great with ALT/TAB working again.

Yah but this is a thing us old school Battlefielders have been doing for a long time since 1942. It has always loaded up faster by just deleting everything in there and we used to always be able to alt+Tab.

Just weird how restoring it will fix it; although it is annoying to watch all that crap.

Great find! I got more good news. After doing some research, I think I found the culprit. It's the titan tutorial video file.

Ok, to disable the intro movies while keeping alt+tab capabilities, do this:

Make sure you rename your original movie folder back to "Movies" and put all the original movies back in it. Then, create a folder called "temp" (or whatever you want to call it) and cut & paste every movie "EXCEPT" the "titan_tutorial.bik" into the newly created folder. Now you should be able to alt+tab out and not have to watch the intro movies. Best of both worlds!

I think I read here that if you remember to alt-tab out and then back in after you load up into the server browser and BEFORE you start joining a server, that you can alt-tab out when in game and it works 100% of the time.

Not sure why, but it just works. That's all I got.

I had probs Alt tabbing and I have my movies changed. I have noticed that if I hit esc to go to the game menu I can then alt tab back and forth without a problem. Takes a couple extra seconds but it keeps my game from crashing. Just my .02

OK, I have to endure the intro movies again, but...I can alt-tab again! Awesome, 'cause the program mutes my mike when I switch servers and I need alt-tab. I can use VOIP again, assuming there is anyone else willing to play as a team. Thanks for the tip.

I have never altered anything in my installation, and I have 2 gigs of RAM with a pretty decent GFX card (7900 GT 512 mb RAM)...and I get Alt-Tab problems..its a bit like playing Russian Roulette.. sometimes its fine, and sometimes it crashes my PC and needs a re-boot to get out.

I would hazard a guess and say you dont get too many Alt-Tab issues if you are not connected to a server ..ie just browsing for a server or BFHQ...not sure about this but I cant recall having a Alt-Tab issue when not actually on a game server.

Point is, I havent altered nowt and I have experienced the Alt Tab..so its not really a solution..IMO
