Hey guys, ok so I have been watching these home made BF2142 movies being made and displayed almost daily now for a week and its finally got me that its my turn to make one, I have some great ideas and am very creative but I am stumped on just how to actually record myself in multiplayer so i did some investigating and found out the only way to do that is if I have a server or on a LAN....that stinks as I don't have my own server and I want/need footage of me killing fools (real people not the PCbots)

So then I stumbled upon something called Battle Recorder - could someone with expirence in this area give me some suggestions on how Battle Recorder works and some tips in actually creating a movie of myself and other mates that I play with. Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Well there are two types of movies. Frag Movies, which consist of a player using FRAPS (google it) to record his actions in game in first-person view. This allows the player to show his "skill" in multiplayer.

The other type is the one you mentioned, BattleRecorder movies. These movies record ingame footage from where ever the hell you want on the map. Its not usually used for multiplayer, but it can be if the server has BR enabled, which most dont. Its a hassle to get it to work.

Now, do you want to record from a first person view or third person view? It sounds like you want to do a frag movie, but you cant really use BR for that, you'll need to download FRAPS and record ingame.

Hey thanks I am going to check that out, what if I wanted to do a combination of both. I am looking at showing off my "skills" in both the killing and stunts area....combine for one sick *** movie? I want to be able to edit it, cut parts out, change views, zoom in ect... That possible for me?

Thanks

Yea it is....but you need the right video editing software

There are various programs used. Some use Ulead, Media Studio, Vegas, Adobe.
As far as a user friendly interface goes, Vegas is a good one to start with, I find its much easier to edit with compared to other programs. Adobe is fairly simple, however it doesn't provide too many special capabilities unless you use it in conjunction with Adobe after affects which can take a long time to master.

New users to the editing scene might try out the simple Windows Movie Maker.

Download Battledirector at www.sircommunity.com
Battledirector allows you to render you movie when you capture them via BFR File.
You can then edit them if you wish. If you're wanting to make a Frag video, merely FRAPS it.

BattleDirector is unnecessary. Use BattleRecorder in conjunction with Fraps instead. Much quicker and straight forward.

Not true. If you have a machine that doesn't have 2gb of ram, a good graphics card or processor, BD eliminates that problem. Most people don't achieve 100 FPS, especially when moving around in freecam with fraps on.

BD lets you render them so they can be viewed on the highest obtainable settings as well as nice and clear with no stuttering. It achieves a proffesional result. I am yet to see a Battlefield feature film that did not render its footage with either Battlelaucher (Which no longer work with the 1.4 patch) or Battledirector.

But hey, if you want to make something in 5 minutes with Low settings, then Battledirector is not for you.

BD removes nametags whilst Battlerecorder does not do this.
