Rather than earning new unlocks by climbing through the ranks, the booster pack will add 10 new badges which when received will award the player with one unlock credit each. This unlock credit can be used to unlock a standard unlock item or, if you're on top of the unlock branch, a Northern Strike unlock. The Northern Strike unlocks will be available through Field Upgrade for all users who maxed out one or more unlock trees, but only players entitled to Northern Strike can unlock them permanently. A lot of energy has been put into making the unlocks a fun and challenging experience both for the ones carrying them and for the ones not.
This may be from the other thread, but here its at the top, and easier to get to. :p
I also want to mention the fact that there are ten new unlocks, all at the top of the trees.
2 for assault, 2 for recon, 2 for engineer, 2 for support, 1 for SL, and 1 for player ability.
All you Accipiter haters might be silenced for a bit.

I'm curious what kinda new awards there will be. I'm kinda happy it works out like that because I only have like 3 unlocks left and I wasn't looking forward to 10+ more ranks to get all the unlocks. But, this is obviously away to keep people playing even longer so Im sure the unlocks will be difficult to attain.

Interview with the lead guy on the booster. Reading it has made me less nervous about the booster pack upsetting the balance. Apparantly, it infers that those without the booster pack can use the unlocks as squad unlocks as long as they have the whole tree unlocked for that item. At least (if I understood the quote correctly) it gives those without the booster access to the unlocks (albeit as squad unlocks) but not the new maps.
Not perfect, but it sounds as though they're trying to avoid the mistakes they made last time.

Interesting. I suppose people could abuse this by stumbling upon a server where the unlocks are messed up and you can get badges/medals/etc. you’ve already received. Although, I guess it depends on what the requirements are for the new badges.

People need to start providing links to their sources.
I've been involved with a research community lately and I'm so not used to people being allowed to post this sort of info without siting their source!

It is very annoying to see people post info in a 'matter of fact' fashion as if they are authorities without stating how or where they came up with the info.
Looks great, hope we get some kind of grapple or jetpack.

Oh this is a bad idea, i thought that giving the unlocks would be ok as this would not upset the stats padders, but imagine it now, harder to achieve badges will basically mean more stats padding to get them :(
Im probably gunna save my last unlock point.

2 for assault, 2 for recon, 2 for engineer, 2 for support, 1 for SL, and 1 for player ability.
That is actually easy to work out, 10 new unlocks would mean that all the classes will get a balanced number of extra. hence 2,2,2,2,1,1

T:V killed Tribes
More precisely, VUG killed Tribes by underfunding it, refusing to listen to the *right* fans, shutting down Dynamix, and giving the contact to a good dev house that just didn't have any experience making on-line games.
They even refused to release the patch that was COMPLETE and made on the Dev's own time, simply because they considered posting it on their servers to be too expensive.
RIP Tribes.
If anyone here has a problem with EA's handling of the BF franchise, they really should have been around for the abuse that was heaped upon Tribes fans. I'm not saying EA has been great... but believe me, it could be MUCH worse.

I'll be the first to say, F*** that. I don't want to be forced to badge hunt to get unlocks. I'm sure they'll require you to play in Titan mode too.

At least we'll be able to unlock them as field unlocks, regardless of whether we earned our badges or own NS.

Cool...people who don't buy the booster will get to play with the new unlocks through field upgrades in squads if they have a whole tree unlocked. That sounds good.

You guys do know that it said you can use these unlock credits on Vanilla unlocks too right? Therefore you can rank up and that credit can go to the NS unlock.
Oh and heres your source. www.totalbf2142.com Jesus.

What, play in another new mode that is as mindless and noob friendly as Titan? No thanks, I'll stick to Conquest.
First it was "it will make it so you have to start over "or some junk but now its complaining about the game modes people wanted so badly.
Ok, I didn't even bother reading this. All I'm picturing are awards that require 100 gajillion hours of gameplay, command score, and near-impossible knife kills per round. Great idea.......
Realistically, I'm sure some will be easy to attain but the amount that are time-based and not skill-based are too many as-is.
Still, I look forward to new toys.
If you PURCHASE the add-on, do you automatically get a few unlocks based on rank? I thought that was a GOOD system with Special Forces last time around!

I never wanted new modes. Hell, I never really wanted new maps. I'd like some new or better ranks. That's it. :)

New ranks? What comes after general? Supreme awesome guy of military might (gold and silver naturally)!
I think it really should be a wait and see kinda thing on this about the badges. People cried "zomg no new guns for non-bp people community strife blah blah" and yet that was "fixed" and rather well imo. There has yet to be a hard to attain award outside of medic (heal points are a *****) and war colledge... The others are either a matter of play time (aka easy) or "go get some kills n00b" which is also pretty easy. Not to mention the potential for the new badges to be affected by your current stats, meaning if you already have the requirements such as time played, kills with X, or random score type you could just get it handed to you.
I remember when they altered some bf2 ranks and such and changed up the SF unlock thing. I was just kinda handed some ranks and unlocks and I was like "cool thanks".
Also other people (there are other people besides you, no ****) have been asking for new game modes myself included. Variations on titan and more SF/ubran style maps with less of a focus on "lawl walker on gibralter".

I was thinking more along the lines of Planetside, but one set further. They have a merit system where someone can receive merit/badges for so many kills with specific weapons, vehicles, etc. Merits are like badges, but are much harder to get. I want to merge both ideas and go deeper.
Say you need 2,500 kills with a kit for first badge. You get a sub-rank. You then need 5,000 kill for the next kit badge to receive a higher sub-rank. This would go all the way up to 100,000 kills with a kit. All stages would have a different sub-rank. Finally at the very highest sub-rank/badge you could get different weapon skins or a different skin for armor only after you complete an extremely difficult IAR score of 75-80 kills with a kit. :)
And I'd rather say: DONT make rewards harder to get, some are already too hard for the average player.
It's a GAME, not a contest where we compare virtual shining medals. It's already because of the stats system that we have stat padders, and stupid online behaviours (support guy not providing RDX to recon, because the support wants to be the one destroying the next console).
What is a virtual medal worth, anyway???
I hear some people even say "I worked so hard to get this badge". As if we had not enough work with the real job, and kids, or studies...
The BF stats system is "creating" even more stat padders because unlocks are tied to stats. I already enjoyed so much BF 1942!

Yea stick to the same monotonous mode we've been playing since 42:laugh:
In fact we want more Karkand carbon copys so everyone can run around with defibs, MGs, nades....yawn...

Ah yes, so the average player can wait a year to get that unlock! Great idea!

The awards are hard to get? You have no idea what hard is. This game is far from hard even from a casual gamers stand point.
You guys want everything handed to you on a silver platter. What's the fun in that? It's sad today's gaming companies are developing games for the casual base and leaving nothing for the hardcore ones.
Reward type systems are what keep games running and what keeps people interested. While rewards may not hold an value to you, to others it signifies success, acknowledgment or respect from peers, and "greatness" if you are near the top. Not everyone plays the game from fun and not all players play the same amount of time as a casual gamer.

That's that idea or at least something that would take longer than a month to get.

The new game mode is Supply Line. So stop whining. Supply Line is where you can only take the flag infront of yours. Better battles, more points, unlocks will come naturally.
I imagine the casual gamer doesnt wanna spend his whole life just to try out a new gun.

Every game forum I've seen has the "hardcore" vs. "casual" argument go on and on and on.
The hardcore moan that the game is too easy and that the casuals are whining babies. The casual moan that the game is too hard and that the hardcore are elitist braggarts.
The only 'fair' solution is to make all the game 'accessible' to everyone, but make it so mechanics support the more 'skilled' player getting more points and medals (which is what they are after).
The difference is, the hardcore often want things that would exclude some people from playing.
Want a shiny medal for playing 1000 hours? Fine! I'm all for that. Want unlocks (game diversity and ability) restricted on the same basis? No. Now your talking unnecessary elitism.
Me? I'm in the middle. I like a shiny medal or two that says I've made an effort in the game, but I wouldn't want to not be able to get certain unlocks just because I find a particular medal too frustrating to enjoy getting. At the moment, I am finding 17 knife kills in one round too frustrating - I don't think I'll bother getting that one - but I don't sweat it. I'm a Field Marshall - I get a bronze, silver or gold every now and again and I have fun. And I can get all the unlocks whether I do the Gold Knifer badge or not.
I really hope the NS unlock badges aren't too frustrating to be fun...
