View Full Version : Booster Pack?..... No Way

The main problem with EA's booster packs is that they fragment the player community. I'm not sure how exactly it works, but I guess if a server runs content from Booster Pack A & B, then only people who have A & B will be able to connect.
Since EA's booster packs are extremely bad value for money, a lot of people don't really want to buy the booster packs. As a result, lots of people have different combinations of activated booster packs, and not everyone can play together anymore, which sucks.
Take Blizzard's expansion packs, for example. They have sh*tloads of stuff which make the core game actually better, and instead of releasing small expansions a few times a year, they only release gigantic ones, often only one per game, so nearly all players of their games get the expansions. If EA would do that with the Battlefield games, then probably a lot more people would buy them, and there wouldn't be the community fragmentation problem.
We've sorta, uh, covered this.

It's called a marketing plan....You will still be able to play 2142 if you don't buy the BP. Individuals not getting to play with the new content is of no concern to them except that they know that you will eventually cave in because in a least one of those new unlocks there is going to be something that each individual wants.... And Koolaid man says "Oh Yeah!!!"
If EA/DICE do not make money this way then there are no new BP/Xpacks or games in general.

IF they keep it at 1 booster pack which allows unlock mixing... then the community wont split that much..

There are multiple forums on this problem. Definitly should use the search. BTS, boosters are stupid and greedy
And you arent? seriously stop complaining.

It probably won't split at all. 2-3 weeks and most people will be back on vanilla.

uh .. what now? who died an made you boss? All yours "I dont care" and "MUST-SURRENDER-MONEY-BOOSERPACK-HMMMMZZ" doesnt change the fact that the two BPs for BF2 sucked and barely anyone plays them.
game-monitor.com (http://www.game-monitor.com/) statistics
BF2 vanilla: 4303 servers (~1000 servers populated)
BF2 AF: 71 servers (10 servers populated)
BF2 EF: 69 servers (4 servers populated)
BF2 SF: 325 (70 servers populated)
As you can see none of the expansion or booster packs where any success. BF2 SF, while still not a success in my eyes, does better than the two BPs combined because it introduced more features and maps than AF and EF.
Edit:It probably won't split at all. 2-3 weeks and most people will be back on vanilla.exactly ... people will pay the $20+, b!tch and forget about it until the next one gets released. Just like last time ...

Very true, they will just get the game for the sake of the maps... and maybe the vehicles..
But its the unlocks that matter, and once you have them... vanilla ftw!
