There's really nothing I want to unlock right now. Will I be able to use them to get the new booster unlocks? Or will I only be able to use them for vanilla unlocks.

I have one saved now, and in 500 pts I'll have another.

I don't play engy that much and I have all teh other weapons up to field upgrades... so I might go 6 of 6 on player. but I'm waiting for now.

Well I have a spare unlock that I have nothing to do with... (Don't want anything I don't have now and can't field. That would be the entire Pilum line, anything for recon other than Moretti, APM and RDX, the Accipiter and most of the Ganz line)

Nobody knows yet, at least nobody who is willing to tell.

But since the new unlocks will be top level unlocks, you might need to unlock "standard" unlocks to get to a NS unlock that you want. So it makes sense to save your unlocks if you currently have what you want.

No that won't work, to unlock the NS unlocks you have to get the badges

I am under the impression that you may use whichever unlock however you want to. So if you wanted you could have the first NS thing by rank 5 and without the badges.

We have no idea what the unlocks will be (my guess is they will be useless) so don't get too excited... get the core unlocks first.

If there's nothing that you really need or want right now, then what is the harm in saving them up for a few months?

Yeah I'm just going to save them, they may be needed to get to the top of a tree for a NS goodie.

Well at the moment i have a spare unlock and am in the same position as some other where they are waiting for the NS unlocks to be announced before we get deciding, im getting another unlock in about 500 points and by the time the NS is released i will probably have all of them so i will wait till maybe 2 weeks after its released and people start rating the guns before i just go for the one with the nicest looking barrel.

What do you mean? Can you unlock NS unlocks with ordinary unlocks points or do you need the badges?

Say:

1)Yes you need the badges to unlock the NS unlocks
2)No you can use ordinary unlock points.

Source please? And by that I mean a direct link to a EA/DICE man saying that.

If you are thinking of this (http://www.battlefield.ea.com/battlefield/bf/BF2142_News_011907_2.aspx):

5) There are ten new unlocks and also increased persistence in the booster pack. Could you give us some hints on what the new unlocks might be, and also how the increased persistence will work?

Rather than earning new unlocks by climbing through the ranks, the booster pack will add 10 new badges which when received will award the player with one unlock credit each. This unlock credit can be used to unlock a standard unlock item or, if you're on top of the unlock branch, a Northern Strike unlock. The Northern Strike unlocks will be available through Field Upgrade for all users who maxed out one or more unlock trees, but only players entitled to Northern Strike can unlock them permanently. A lot of energy has been put into making the unlocks a fun and challenging experience both for the ones carrying them and for the ones not.

It states that unlocks in NS are earned through badges, which gives an unlock credit. It does not state that NS unlocks only can be unlocked through NS credits.

That's totally wrong. It makes much more sense the other way around.

Lets say that you get all 10 NS badges. You use those unlocks on STANDARD ITEMS (it says you can do that in the interview). Now you just can't unlock NS stuff? Please. The badges are designed for people who would say "D00d like I wouldn't have unlocked the Ganz if I knew I should have saved those unlocks for teh the NS!!!/?!". < That is why I believe the 10 badges will be relatively easy to get, as well.

Whats to say the new unlocks/weapons/abilities aren't tiered like they are now?

Still have to unlock the ones before them to get to the next one right?
That's how I think it will work... 8 new weapons (Guns/Explosives/Class Item) for each class, 2 new abilities or 1 ability/ 1 Squad Leader item...

i.e -Assault

2 - Weapons (Not necessarily guns, but maybe 1)
1 - ability
1 - Item

5.*New Gun/Weapon
|
4.Gun You have unlocked already
|
3.Class Item
2.Class Item
1.Class Item

Just my idea of whats gonna happen.
*New Tiered weapon

Read the FAQ.
What's this I hear about unlocks?
The Northern Strike Booster Pack will introduce ten new unlocks to the top of every existing unlock tree. It will go something like this.

The individual soldier kit trees get one NS unlock above them. The SL tree
gets one NS unlock above that, and so does the Player Ability tree. All these add up to ten unlocks.

We have no idea what the unlocks are yet, so don't ask.

Will I be able to field upgrade to these unlocks?
If you have a tree maxed out, yes, you will be able to field upgrade to the NS unlock above that, even if you don't have the booster pack. (The NS unlocks will come to vanilla 2142 the same way the SF unlocks came to vanilla BF2, through a patch.)

Unlocks for People Who Have Reached General
Question 1, Im already at General so i have no more unlocks to claim, so will I automatically get all the unlocks like we did in bf2 exp.
Question 2, Will the unlocks work in vanilla BF2142 like in bf2.

If the case is you have already reached General, then here is the solution. The booster is adding 10 new awards. Earning this specific awards will give you an unlock credit to get these unlocks. Anyone that hasn't reached general can use this credit on a Vanilla 2142 unlock or an NS unlock. Yes, the NS unlocks will work in vanilla BF2142.

Where does this say anything about using vanilla credits to buy NS unlocks?

This one?
Yes, the NS unlocks will work in vanilla BF2142.

Nope, it states that the NS unlocks can be used in the core game. From the context it is clear that he is talking about the equipment, but we also know that NS unlock credits can be used in the core game.

But I don't see where it says that core credits can be used to buy NS unlocks.

Maybe they can, but I haven't seen one source yet that says so.

You can use saved credits.

The booster is adding 10 new awards. Earning this specific awards will give you an unlock credit to get these unlocks. Anyone that hasn't reached general can use this credit on a Vanilla 2142 unlock or an NS unlock.

If you can use NS unlcoks on Vinilla 2142 unlocks then you have to be able to use a Vanilla unlock on NS unlocks.

You can use saved credits.

If you can use NS unlcoks on Vinilla 2142 unlocks then you have to be able to use a Vanilla unlock on NS unlocks.

There is no natural law or technical limitation that says that, it is all down to a design decision.
If DICE wants to make it so NS unlocks can only be bought by NS credits, then they can certainly do so.

I personally feel it would be stupid to allow to buy core for NS, but not the other way around.
That could leave people permanently unable to unlock NS unlocks, and would lead to endless whining on the forums.

So I suppose that it will work both ways.

But I will once again claim that there has been no official statement that NS unlocks can be bought with core credits.

If NS is anything like BF2's SF, then you will have to unlock the previous guns before you get the newer ones.
