So yea, today when I went in to play, I felt like practicing with the tvgmissiles so I hope in a server, jump in the gunship, switch to second and wait for a pilot.
I was surprised I often waited over ten minutes before getting bored and deciding to do something else.
Out of the 2-3 hours I was playing, I think only 3 people decided to pilot the gunship and 2 out of those 3 were terrible at it =/

yea, most times pilots think theyre soo 1337 they can fly through buildings etc.
i normally dont get in gunships unless 1) i know the person (and know they can fly) or 2) they are commisar or above- and even then sometimes they ... are questionable. Im not saying Im that good at flying either, but i can normally avoid crashing within 10 seconds of takeoff like most

I would dearly love to be a good pilot, but... much as I've loved the BF games, flight is not something they've ever done "right".
But... I say this as a hard core flight simmer, and I'm absolutely sure at least part of the problem lies with how I *expect* things to be. I doubt there will be the least bit of argument that the flight physics in BF begin and end with the fact that a given vehicle "moves through the air". The controls have been SO arcade-y that I just CAN'T get my mind around them after years and years of hard-core realism in my flight sim games. There's just no finesse to it.
I still try to fly in the BF games from time to time, but... it's never pretty.

Its because airpower is pretty nerfed now. Back in BF2, a nub could just take a cobra and own half the map. Now, with the new flight system and missile damage, you have to rely on tactics and teamwork, something airwhores just arent good at.

I can fly anything. Hook me up.
Interesting aside although you may not like it: I actually got killed by the Engy AA once...

I have recently fixed my lag issue and now i have a complete constant connection and am an awesome pilot if i dont say so myself, i tend to first go for the enemy gunship as it is the biggest threat and then roam and destroy titan guns, i make sure i line up perfectly for the gunner so he can get his TV missiles away and spray, although its very rare i get a good gunner.

come and fly with me, im always on the lookout for sum1 who can use the tv guided missiles and the cannon, its pretty hard to get a gunner these days and on some maps a gunship is useless without one

Really, cuz I'm a terrible pilot, but I'm really good at gunning. I just can't get used to not being able to pull a decent turn(mebbe I'm too used to the spacefighters from SWBF2. Those were real fun...maybe we should make a space mod like that...woops, straying from the topic:)

I was going to suggest sorting through this thread (http://www.totalbf2142.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8907) for people who are into Gunship piloting, but from my own look I only saw two people who identified themselves as Gunship Pilots.
Good pilots are pretty hard to come by, but I really don't play most maps with air vehicles these days. The last time I tried gunning, the pilot took off and promptly dived into one of the tall buildings in Minksk.
The only type of piloting I do is Transport piloting, and I'm not all that good. I every now and then though play rounds where I take my transport nice and high, and just cruise above various silos and hot zones for people to spawn in and then jump out to get into the mix. The only times I land are sometimes in early games, where I'll land the transport on top of a large building to be used as a spawn point for others, but as a rule, I don't try to go near the ground, I'm not good enough and fear crashing, but more often than not it just leads to people jumping out too low and getting me TK's.

i fly, and I dont suck, either. IMHO, its good gunners that are hard to find.
I will hover so the gunner can kill ground troops, and I will alternate killing vehicles and lining up TV shots so both my gunner and I get kill and kill-assist points.

I'm always looking for good gunners/pilots. I can do either, although I enjoy flying more than gunning. Can't stand it when I present my gunner targets (and even spot them on the NetBat), but they can't be bothered to shoot. I don't expect perfection, I just want a gunner that shoots once in a while ;) I've learned to be efficient enough taking out infantry with the stupid 0-splash missles, but nothing beats a good gunner (especially in dogfights).
Flying does get annoying sometimes with the hard-coded inverted flight crap that DICE gave us. Its manageable, but it still gets in the way occasionally.
And that SAAW is annoying on Verdun, as its often very difficult to decipher where you're being targeted from (a lot easier without all the snow in the way ). At least the EMP isn't as much of a pain in the @ss as it was before the 1.10 patch.
I'd wouldn't mind having ya as a gunner Dee, but I'm on the US west coast, so Euro servers are a no-fly zone for me :hmm:

Guys...
It is all nice that you come and say "Add me I'm a good pilot."
Not that I don't believe you, but I have been trying to add you guys. And aside from The_Eliminator none of your nicks here generate any hits in the game. So please do as Deesies and add the ingame nick.
Mine is KraxisSingular
Position: Gunner
[That might actually be a good way to do it. Write nick then write position you prefer, then we can add each other more easily]

As a pilot I rarely hover; unless I have enough ground support to cause some noise. A sitting gunship can be destroyed by anyone. Which is why I prefer to hit and run.
I only have problems with loops and barrel rolls. Anyone know of a tutorial that explains this well?

Go to the tips and tricks section and there was a load of videos about a month ago showing how to perform these but both are really getting a feel for the gunship and then its pretty simple.

Stationary gunships are easy prey, but hover-circling gunships are absolutely deadly. They are a good bit harder to hit and they get around all the littl nooks and crannies infantry likes to hide in. Of course it should only be done for up to one circle or so. Or else AT guys might bring you down... literally as well as metaphorically.

Just to add.
STOP BLOUDY HOVERING!
seriously, this is NOT helping your gunner. Not even when against infantry.
Always keep moving, preferably circling an area. Hovering dead still will get you killed and only piss me off even more >.>

i disagree.. the cobra was not even a good base raping engine of death. the gunner seat's cannon had a small AOE and it took mutiple hits to kill an infantryman. The cobra was superior in heli v heli combat because of its manuverability and smaller hitboxes, but there were jets.. and the MEC chopper that were light years ahead of the cobra in the ability to get in and just deal death no problem.

I like to think I'm a pretty good pilot (dont mind learning new stuff or people with constructive criticism though), I always give my gunner priority on ground targets, lining him up and the like. I am also a pretty good gunner can hit with the TV about 65% of the time. ;)

AMEN.
If anything, keep your movement as constant as possible (not a lot of readjustments), but don't keep the same vector for more than a second or two. Good gunners can account for gunship movement, but so can good AT guys. Also, don't hover because it takes forever to switch from hovering to full speed flight, in which case you can get really raped by other gunships or incoming Walkers. Deadly gunships are the ones that come in, get the job done quick, and get out befor the enemy can respond to it. Because a deadly gunship isn't very deadly if its dead

im not too bad at flying, problem is i have no gunner half the time so i dont bother, unless i have a squad that talks and is willllingly to fly gunner with me.
Another reason for not flying alot, the gunships are so weak. honestly i dont get it, you would think no 1 is sitting in AA guns but nearly all of them are occupied on a map and you cant move becuase of constent EMP

And the gunship is anything but weak, people just expect them to be ungodly murdercrafts like they were in BF2.
A single pass with the rockets will destroy a tank or an apc and the TVGMs can kill a walker in two passes.

Sending requests left and right... This should be good in a few days. Then hopefully we will all have ourselves a good number of nice new companions for the Gunship.
What I really like about the Gunship is how much people underestimate it. It is much like people in tanks and on the ground don't really take it into account, nor do they fear it. So when you do run rampant with it, it feels so much better... You have actually taught people a lesson or two.
Of course that is until some guy decides to whip out the SAAW... God I hate that. Not that I have been killed a lot with it, but it is just so hard to get away from it, so you never get enough peace to set up a proper run or attack. And you can't really find him either. Annoying as hell.
So I hope you pilots know how to deal with it.:D

I stick to transport flying for the most part. I get driver ability points whenever someone pods out, it's shields work and the # of people you can have riding in it can turn it into the BF2142 equivalent of a C-130 Spectre. A load of Engies as passenger, medic flying and support gunning...
You've got enough rocket power to fry gunships who think that they can take you, you can stick a PDS-1 to the inside to prevent sneak attacks. Ontop of all that it can repair on-the-fly IIRC.

Good pilots are hard to come by, and on that note I dont consider myself great or anything, but when I do fly I normally get a decent 20-5 KD , When my partner is on "FrankDaSoldier" and someone takes the gunship we take the transport with him as the engi AA and we rack up alot of points shooting down those wanna be pilots :)
IMO what makes a good pilot is one that can navigate the ship well enough so that the people aboard can do there job aswell. Also someone who knows when and when not to fight.

I think given how hard it is to just find pilots/gunners of any caliber it would be better to just join you for some common killing. Besides I have wanted to play your backup gunner on the Transport for some time, so don't be surprised if a buddy request goes your way.

i am quite a good pilot, i usually fly the gunship by myself, its so bloody annoying when you are sneaking up on an enemy gunship waiting for the perfect time to shoot, only for your idiot gunner to start shooting it with his machine-guns, i also hate being a gunner to an unknown pilot, more than half of my deaths in the gunship have come from being a gunner, hate pilots who just crash into tanks when they try an shoot them, but THE most annoying is when someone beats you to the gunship so you hop into the gunner seat, and they fly straight into the enemy titan AA guns, and if your lucky enough for them not to be manned, the pilot just hops out over the enemy titan and leaves you to crash

Yep - I dont like to have gunners on servers without VOIP unless I know them, and these are same ones that also like to shoot at tanks with the MG...That noise it makes while they fire it gives me a headache and distracts me I wish it was a muffled sound.

Yeah well I play the IL2 series on "Full Real ONLY",multiplayer track ir and all,its how I enjoy it realistic as possible....Ofcourse BF is arcade style flight and a laughed at topic at flight sim forums when even mentioned(as it should be at those places). But it is a virtual sky with virtual threats that takes skill to master and there IS A virtual dogfight which is why some players are FAR better than others. No offense to your opinion but theres always some idiot (neither of you 2 btw)that comes in these topics and says "Buy a flight sim instead, this takes no skill etc..." knowing that these loudmouths are the same ones that buy a flight sim ,install it,play for 30 minutes,go to forums and complain its to hard, never play it again and arent any good in BF series either...Just my .02

The thing that will help ppl the most is fly with someone on Vent/TS.
My brother xx_xXx_xx is a master with the gunship, and talking with him on Vent we can coordinate our runs. Usually TV hit, followed up with Rockets.
You can Find use on the Seattle War Games Server most nights.
