View Full Version : Vista and getting kicked by punkbuster with no reason, is this new?

I just migrated to Vista, and I am now getting kicked from servers by punkbuster occasionally, with no explanation. It appears to be random, I could be playing for 15 min or 3 hours, then I am removed from the game and the little pop-up says punkbuster.....and that’s it? Al least if it was an admin kicking me there would be a BS justification like "excessive team killing", but now there isn't anything? Is it just me or are others seeing this as well?
Just an FYI it isn't a ban because I can jump back on the server and keep playing as if nothing happened, it's just weird (and annoying).

I can't help you, sorry, but I think you may be in for even greater headaches: http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/17/gameplay-only-gets-worse-with-vista/

Yea, the punkbuster message not displaying bug is rather annoying =/ Although you're supposed to get a message in game telling you you're about to be kicked.
As for vista, there could be a crapload of possibilities. I doubt anyone knows too much about vista to be of any use =/
OT: Vista looks set to be a major pain the arse in the nth degree. Heck, you have to re-register (buy vista again) every time you make a few system upgrades or someting =/
I think this is the first time I've seriously considered switching to linux =/

You make no sense with that Link!
Try turning off the UAC(User Account Control), It will run fine. I installed VISTA since the beta was released a few months ago, and I had the same problems. So I SEARCHED the forums, and found that if you shut it off. It works FINE
Disable Admin Approval Mode
Use the following procedure to disable Admin Approval Mode.
Note:
To perform the following procedure, you must be logged into a client computer as a local administrator.
To disable Admin Approval Mode
1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click Run, type secpol.msc in the Open text box, and then click OK.
2. If UAC is currently active, a User Account Control dialog box will appear. If so, verify that the details presented match the request you initiated, and click Continue.
3. From the Local Security Settings console tree, click Local Policies, and then click Security Options.
4. Scroll down and double-click User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode.
5. From the User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode Properties dialog box, click Disabled, and then click OK.
6. Close the Local Security Settings window.

Didn't Microsoft make an announcement back around November, I think, saying they nixed that idea because it was too hard on hardware enthusiasts and they heard enough wailing from the community with XP on that point? I don't think it's the case anymore, unless they changed their minds back again...?

If you haven't done it yet Run BF2142 as an administrator.
Simply right click on the icon for BF2142 choose properties then click on Compatibility and check Run this program as an administrator click apply.
I don't like the ideal of shutting down or changing the secruity settings. Maybe an extra click or two is to much for some people but I dont mind.

.
A link, showing Vista gaming benchmarks, makes no sense on a PC gaming forum where someone mentioned Vista gaming issues?
I said I couldn't help with his prob, but that he might have even more cause of Vista. Makes perfect sense.
Besides, maybe it's important for people to be made aware of the limited drivers available before they make the transition to Vista...
