View Full Version : Only one new weapon?
Iwantcable

So I was browsing through the leaderboards on battlefield.ea.com, and I came across 2 empty spaces (where vehicle names are). The spaces are probably the goliath and the hover jeep thing. The only leaders are BFtest guys. I looked over at weapons and there's only 1 free space. Does this mean there's only 1 new weapon, or they haven't finished everything yet?

Maybe it's a unlock for all the kits(New pistol, knife or something) and all the kit specific ones are new toys to play with.
Personally I would prefer this as the guns are never really that different.

I'm happy with the weapons I have now. I really want more goodies to play with because it makes me adjust my play style to adapt and maximize the effect. With weapons I have close, medium and long range covered. I have slow, medium and fast rates of fire.
I want an unlock which let's me scale buildings, run at turbo-speed or protect the whole squad from Orbital Strikes.

They said ina recent interview that they have no idea what any of the unlocks are going to be yet (trust EA ) so its probably a test gun.

What interview was that becasue this sounds like thesy know what they are:
A lot of energy has been put into making the unlocks a fun and challenging experience both for the ones carrying them and for the ones not.
The things going in to beta soon which usually means its content complete.

I don't want new weapons.
Like seriously. what more can they add without either A. making a current gun redundant. or B. Making something pretty much the exact same but different skin.
Leemus wants new toys.

01-25-2007, 03:13 PM
I agree with leemus. But i think they could also be gun attachments or passive abilities for all we know. How I would love a 3 missle SAAW with an EMP grenade effect for each one and a new skin(drool):p.
If they were to give the engies a new wep i would like a shoulder mounted salvo that fired 10 missles exactly like the gunship rockets at anything you chose. They would fly directly in a straight line like the pilum and have no warning and do 10 damage each missle. That would be awesome. 1 infantry with salvo= 1 gunship - 1 gunner AND THE ABILITY TO FLY OF COURSE :)
AND THE ABILITY TO FLY OF COURSE :)
I'm so not buying it if they don't include 'The Icarus Suit'
No it doesnt mean just one, they might just be testing one now, Geez...

IMO i don't foresee any new weapons joining the battle, just new mods to weapons and other devices. but i'd love for ea to prove me wrong, some new weapons would mix it up a bit
Must be why theres a new weapon selection.
The Gatekeeper
01-25-2007, 06:46 PM
I wanna have a pistol upgrade (and Engi upgrade), toggleable in the kit selection like Armour. Since there is no more room to fit guns in, I have to say the new weapon are extra's (Eg, pistol) and the rest are toys, SL will also have a new toy (maybe a shield of some sort).
Everybody is allowed to prove me wrong, so go ahead.

i would like to think that each kit is getting a new weapon, so 4 new weapons and 4 new pieces of gear. 1 new player ability and 1 new squad leader unlock.
that makes the most sense to me, 1 new weapon... blah almost not worth the time.
but i mean before we buy the booster, i'm sure the new weapons will be explained in exaustive detail:)

They should make a portable canopy that can deployed and 3 squadmates can get under it for cover from orbital strikes. I'd like to see a stun gun that stuns a play for a few secs. That way you can stun the guy and get the tank before he does.

Of course they have to be to test the unlocks and badges.. this doesn't mean in 1.2 that the points will carry over...

You are aware that 2142 still uses bullets and not lasers right? So you think that new future body armor will stop 12 gauge bullets shot rapidly at close range? Have you ever worn body armor or seen it in action. I have in the U.S. Army... Here's for future body armor that is uber l337 pwnage but lets not get carried away. The clark is still a 12 gauge shotgun, just shooting flechette rounds which are basically little darts.

Yes, I absolutely think that future body armor will stop 12 gauge pellets. In fact, current body armor can easily stop 12 gauge shotguns. Shotguns have terrible armor penetration. The numerous pellets fired by shotguns are quite small individually, with relatively low inertia, and no useful armor penetrating characteristics. Shotguns are one of the least effective weapons against body armor.
I must conclude that either you were not actually in the army, or the army's training standards are even lower than I had previously thought.

Yes, and flechettes would certainly have better armor penetration than shotgun pellets, but if you reread the post I was replying to, you will see that he was specifically referring to modern shotguns. Regardless, flechettes would still not have good armor penetration relative to real bullets.

I did read it, but good old wiki stated that flechettes were in use in vietnam era shotguns. Admittedly against light armour.
Of course they would be inferior to armour piercing rounds from a rifle, but that doesn't mean they are useless. Certainly not in the fictive future.

No, flechettes do have less armor penetration than rifle rounds... I agree. But you are missing the point here. A shotgun is not made for the velocity or range of a rifle. The intended use is for close quarters and easy of aiming vs. a rifle. Flechettes are in use in todays modern shotguns that you seem to poo poo. Maybe I should clarify my position on the shotgun vs. body armor. I realize, that in your position, all pellets fired are hitting the body armor (in 00 buckshot there are about 9). Whist I agree with you that infantry interceptor vests will stop such a shot, the spread of a shotgun normally catches guys in other exposed areas such as; the neck, arms, legs and face. As we all can see these vulnerable areas are still exposed in 2142. So unless you are making some body armor like the uniforms the recon EU wear that are made of kevlar, which would be uncomfortable as hell, then future soldiers using body armor are still vulnerable to even buckshot.
As far as your insult to the US Army and your doubt of my being in it I don't care much for your evaluation of the service and feel you should join yourself and see what the real world of combat is like. I think you have a lot more living to do before you make any kind of evaluation of the US armed forces. Other than that here's a pic for you of myself and my crew. I'm on the turret on the left.

Yessir! It is in fact an Abrams M1A2 SEP (Systems Enhanced Package) MBT. We called it the cadillac of the battlefield. She even had an air conditioner! It was to keep the electronics cool but we benefited from it as well:D. It was a blast, literally, I recommend the military to anyone and especially the armor career field.
I'd rather go paintballing.... less chance of being shot to death by my own side then.

Hey fraz86 ever heard of a slug? I hear it told thats what alot of the soilders issued shotguns are using. From my personal (non military just a civi :P ) experience a slug should be more than capable of screwing up someone even with kevlar or body armor.
Also another thing to remember is that its not only the penetration that kills people but the actual impact. If I slam a hammer into your chest it probably wouln't go through your shirt but it will kill you or atleast screw up your chest, and probably knock you off your feet.
I guess you could always assume soilders are using bird shot, but whatever :P
Vikaman
02-03-2007, 04:00 AM
For a bullet I feel its the penetration that kills you. Cos the impact isnt large, just high pressure penetration. (No pun intended in any way... you sick bas***ds.
[dwg]MrFuri0us
02-03-2007, 06:16 AM
The impact is a large part of it too though. The energy given from a round is what knocks people on their cans. If you have seen videos where guys take a bullet to the chest, they momentarily act as if they had been shot dead and them bounce back up and haul tail outta there. The energy delivered to the body is incapacitating. Like he said in the hammer example, if you hit someone with a hammer, you may not penetrate anything but you are sure to cause blunt force damage.
Slugs are murderous but kevlar interceptor vests would probably stop them due to the slugs tendancy to mushroom on impact. I wouldn't want to be the poor bastard on the other end of the shotgun anyway.
From my experience, a shotgun is great in combat as you can fire it over / around obstacles with some effect. Most times where its infantry vs infantry you are clutching dirt and shooting over your cover randomly. Its easy to say you'd be aiming but when the bullets are real, believe me, you keep your butt down and low.

little radius, 3 second fuse, not much damage, sharp arc so the range isn't high - looks very cool though.
I have no idea what it's good for, because Support can put an ammo crate and spam grenades.
