View Full Version : Why should we care about the NDA?

Obviously, the owners of the forum has the right to tell us not to post Beta info, so I wont do that.

But I don't get why they feel the need to uphold some other company's NDA, or for that matter why some of you "civilians" agree that the info should be hidden from the public.

Personally, if I am trusted with a secret, it will stay a secret, unless it involves bombing kindergartens or stuff like that, and I don't think much of people who break trust.

But I feel no obligations about things that was not trusted me as a secret, but made public available on the net by an insider.

In my opinion the NDA is a contract between a specific individual and a company. Its purpose in this case is to safeguard the interest of EA, but it is not necessarily the community's best interest that this info is kept secret.

I deprives us of the option to come with input while things can still be changed.

So while I agree that breaking a NDA is a bad thing, I don't understand why some of you thinks that the info in itself should be kept secret?

Technically i didnt sign anything and so they have no idea that if it was I who agreed to the NDA or someone else, so what happens if:

I am agreeing to the NDA with a friend sitting next to me, he then sees all the information and unlocks and maps and then he tells the public about it? Did he agree to an NDA?

u r joking, right?
You are standing next to a guy with a gun and he tells you he will kill the next person comming by. If he kills the next person, are you guilty of anything?

something I've been wondering. Do they send physical forms to your address to sign or is like some online thingy?

I've been invited but I'm not too comfortable giving my personal details to anyone.

Im tempted to think that they dont want word to spread that the unlocks are so underwhelming.

It's just a checkbox. Completely online.

That being said, if a company wants to keep their assets a secret, they should have the ability to do so. How is it in the community's best interest to have the information divulged? The only reason I can think of is that the community can provide feedback on the stuff. But then again, that's what beta testers are for. For the company, keeping the assets a secret helps build up hype, makes thing "exciting" when things are released, and prevents a flood of "suggestions and criticisms" that they do not have the capacity to deal with.

You should honor the NDA not because it's a contract that might not even apply to you but because they have a right to protect their intellectual property.

Yes, I have no problem seeing it from EA´s point of view, I just don't understand why we would want to help them with that, since it seems to be against our own interests.

Can you explain what your interests are exactly?

Yes, they are all good arguments for the company wanting to keep it secret, but none of it seems to be for our benefit.

In the end they are wanting to sell me that intellectual property, so I much prefer to have some input, rather than being presented wit a "Take it or leave it " deal. Even more when it is going to impact software that they have already sold me.

And while they have a right to try and protect it, it is up to them to protect their own interest. I am not going to feel sorry when their failure to do so turns out to my advantage.

Can you explain what your interests are exactly?

Here are two, which they currently seem to be failing at:

I want to get the best possible value for my money, that means new, useful unlocks, not just old tools in new versions or odd gimmicks.
I do not want them to break the balance of the game

Remember, the unlocks are going to impact the core game too, so it not just a matter of "Don't like it, Don't buy it".

You can find out all the information about them after they come out. And then you can judge if it's the best possible value for your money. As far as balance, beta testers are dealing with that right now. Neither of those really depend on the company disclosing any information before the release.

As for the "Don't like it, don't buy it" aspect, like I said, they won't be able to satisfy everyone. The beta community is hopefully a good cross-section of the general BF2142 community, and therefore, will provide a good measure of the response. As I mentioned, there will be a flood of suggestions and criticisms if the information is released en masse. When people don't get what they want, they'll just reject the product altogether.

If you want input, you can sign up for the beta test. It's actually a very easy process. Merely hearing about things from other people will not help you get a good grasp of what actually happens.

Btw, I'm not trying to sound harsh (after reading this, it does come out that way). I'm just explaining that most of the people's "interests" are mainly from this "I have to know everything that's new" mindset.

And why exactly is that? It is a honest question, which doesn't violate any of the forum rules.

As I said, I respect the owners right to forbid us from posting info.

If you leak information you can be sued, if thats a term in the NDA, its a legal document which you should follow if you agreed to it.

I myself have been under NDA's and its not that hard to follow them.

Anyone posting stuff under NDA will have there post's removed and may be banned.

Locked.
