View Full Version : Awards Made Easy??

The awards seem pretty easy as seen here:
http://www.forumplanet.com/planetbattlefield/topic.asp?fid=18377&tid=2010901&p=2
Now the pin doesn't count of course, but take the badges 6 times and it gives you 10.
Guess they wanted the unlocks to be easy to get for Brig Gens...
The one says you have to be killed by the goliath and speeder to qualify...that shouldn't be too hard...

It's possible that Northern strike isn't going to be on many servers, having awards with heavy time based requirements would just be impractical for players because they wouldn't get enough play time.

There are only two awards with time based requirement and they are pretty short.
Two hours with Goliath for the "Transporter Duty Ribbon" and 5 minutes in a Northern Strike vehicle for the "Vehicle Excellence Badge".
I wonder how strong the Goliaths are and how they are controlled.

edit: side note (not at vika) this was touched on in another thread but wasn't made clear. Can one use core unlock credits to obtain the NS unlocks?

I am sure you can, as long as you have the 4th unlock of the class.

You cant use this core credits for NS unlocks (this is what they said). There will be some tipe of restriction i suppose. Anyway they will be avaliable through field upgrades.

So, there is no point in hording my 5 unused unlocks?
I heard other say that you can use it, so for now we must file it under "unknown"
I personally think it is likely that you can. because otherwise the oneway conversion from NS to core unlocks will cause troubles.
But remember that you need to have all the previous unlocks to get a NS unlock, so you may still need your saved unlocks to buy your way up a tree, even if they cant be used to buy NS unlocks.

As far as climbing the trees; I'm still undecided where I want to spend them. I was thinking left Engi tree; I'd like to try a road less traveled, but I'm thinking that might be hard to find.

BTW there are four ribbons, the pin can be earned multiple times and does not give you an unlock unit.

I am with you there.
I read some official info that made it clear that unlocks in NS had to be earned. I'm pretty shure it was through awards. So there is no point in saving unlocks.

My guess is that the awards give you snowflake credits.
You can use the snowflake credit to unlock a snowflake awards. Which, if you have 1.19b, you will notice snowflakes indicating NS on the unlocks.
Although I would be against that, it would be good so that people couldn't use the credit to unlock something else than making someone unlcok the whole left Recon tree.
in short, you would have less starting players who own NS get a ton (not that they don't already...) more unlocks through NS.
Did anyone think you might have to have the gold badges to get the unlocks ;).

what do you mean?
Of course getting gold in the badges will give you a unlock...
I don't quite understand what you're saying...
It would be stupid if they made you get gold before you got the 3 unlocks for the badge.
No i mean make it so you only get the unlock if you get the gold version.

The silliest badge/ribbon/pin requirements, IMO, are the roadkills... I mean, come on, where is the tactical sense in that? As if in WWII/Nam/Iraq you had the really *good* soldiers tossing their primary weps, grabbing a car, and practicing their vehicular homicide skills... Just stupid.

Absolutely - that is incredibly stupid.
Right along with that extra-stupid dogtag obsession that Dice promotes in their every move/post/press release.

Guys, half the fun is in speculation and anticipation over the new release; those of you "in the know" miss out on that. It's like Christmas time and shaking your presents under the tree before opening them.

OK, first: You will be able to use core credits for NS unlocks. No, I'm not in the Beta, I just think logically:
1. They have already announced that you will be able to use NS credits to get core unlocks.
2. If you use an NS credit on a core unlock, you no longer have that credit to use on an NS unlock.
3. They clearly can't tell you that you can't get an NS unlock with a core credit because you already used that NS credit on a core unlock.
Does everybody follow my reasoning? You can use NS credits for core unlocks, so the converse must be true.
Second, You must get each badge 3 times (bronze, silver, and gold) and each ribbon once. This is an exercise in simple addition. 4 ribbons + 2 badges (bronze) + 2 badges (silver) + 2 badges (gold) = 10 unlock credits.

second, yes thats easy math....

It was announced in the producer interview (http://battlefield.ea.com/battlefield/bf/BF2142_News_011907_2.aspx), and apparently not everyone can think logically, as there have been other threads where people knew this yet still didn't think core credits could be used for the NS unlocks.

I meant I didn't see that as I don't pay much attention to the news on here. But yeah, if they did say that then why not.

The third person views were edited into the game for the soldiers. If you check out the main game, there are only FP views for soldiers.

It's not just roadkills but having to spend 50hrs in a vehicle that really sux!
