I've got a 32 player Ranked server and we want to remove the text from the voice emotions, such as:
"Yes sir!"
"What's next sir?"
"Enemy spotted!"
"Sorry man"
"Need supplies"
"Health, here!"
...you know the ones. Basically they take away the communication (text chat) from the game, they just fill up too much space and if anyone types something, BAM, 1 second flat it dissapears from all the voice texts like above.
We hear them, so don't need to read them.
This isn't a rant as such, I just want to know if we can turn them off?
Thanks.

Any other suggestion, like separate the chat to emotions text or bold/highlight the chat text to make it stand out is appreciated.

I ma not quite sure if this is allowed on ranked servers, but .... Knock yourself out.
I could care less because most Human text that I see in chat is juvenile, name calling E-thug BS anyways!
I rarely ever look at chat.

I think you won't be able to do what you want b/c of the whole "do not alter any files" thing with ranked servers.
Now on an unranked server you should be able to accomplish what you want somehow, but you'll probably have to edit some game files where it calls the various localization file entries that contain the text. Sorry I can't be more specific, but a computer programmer I am not.

It's difficult to recruit people without it. They just don't read any of the server messages. :(

The best way is to put a logo and some text in the loading screen. People usually have a good minute or so while its loading to read stuff like, "We are Recruiting, Visit us at www.so&so.com", etc.

Server is full all the time, yet we've had no interest. :(
Even have a public Ventrilo for them to use but no one joins. People don't really seem to bother. Jump in, get some points for their next rank, jump out.

It's a client specific request, not a server side change. The link that Talus provides is how to successfully do this.

I don't think it cuts out the auto-admin messages, just the in game text responses based on what the client selects. I forsee that the only problem with this is that it's difficult enough for some people to hear the voices as it is. I mean...you should be playing, not chatting like it's AIM or something.
There are ventrilo servers, teamspeak servers, and xfire for all this kind of thing. Who really cares what is typed anyway...if it's important enough they will type it again, it never fails.

Didn't we just get a new user to this forum sign on that said he was deaf?
I guess you don't, but alhtough I'm not deaf, I always check the text to see who was responding...

For the Ventrilo: it takes time to Alt-Tab out and start Ventrilo up, then set up a new server, etc. People want to play, and some peoples' games crash when they Alt-Tab out. The other reason is, as you said, there's nobody on them. People know there's never anybody on these public Ventrilo servers, and the BF2142 VoIP works pretty much just as well; if you're a team player you're going to be hanging around with your squad anyway, and shouldn't really need to talk to anyone but them. If you're not a team player, you probably won't be talking to anybody regardless.
As for the lack of interest, I imagine people just aren't interested, plain and simple. Most players are casual, and some (like me) wish they could join one but don't have the time.
