Banning rooftop spawn on some EA official servers?

Hi, I was playing Berlin in Thai EA official server. I was lucky to be able to spawn on a roof so I deployed my beacon on there. Then my squadmate which is my friend told me that I will get banned if you spawn on a rooftop.He also told me that the admin state it clearly in Thai EA forum. I thought DICE(Colin?) said it's not an exploit?? And since its EA official server, it should follow this rule too right?
So my question is "Is it ok to ban every players on rooftop in EA official server?"
By EA official server , I mean its a server provided by EA not just any ranked server.

By EA official server , I mean its a server provided by EA not just any ranked server.

It is allowed to ban certain behaviour even though it is not an exploit, like attacking an uncap etc.

Why don't you check the Thai EA forum?

chances are it was not really an official EA server,infact youll never se an admin in any official EA server, it was just someone putting EA in their server name to attract more players.

The written ROE is still the one from BF2, so it is not explicitly addressed.

it falls under house rules meaning some servers could allow it and other might not.

I don't know about 'allowing' it but if the guy was lucky enough to spawn up there (never happened to me) then I don't see how it can possibly be an exploit. It's clearly allowed otherwise why the spawn point? The OP was the SL too so it wasn't a lucky SL spawn either.

Sometimes it's not an exploit tho. We all know about the exploit on city maps to get up there, no need to repeat it, but take Minsk for example, you can get onto the rooftops there perfectly legitimately using the transport. I think that is a bit more of a grey area, as there is no exploiting taking place. Whether or not it is an unfair advantage is another point, but if you use legitimate means to get there, surely its just another valid tactic.

Don't you mean the multiple ways of getting up there...I do you guys a favor and not list them. The dumbest thing EA could of done was make it APCs could only launch people so far after the BETA and then say its ok to get up there if you can. In other words taking out legit method and limit it so only players who can figure out exploits in the game mechanics to get up there and then telling 'em sure.

Personally we have the APCs, why not? Wars always been about taking the high ground and we have AR Rockets, the Pilum, new and improved LMGs and Sniper Rifles, all of which have teken me out plenty of times on the roof. Would of been cool if EA would of put some flags on the roofs.

I don't really see why it could be viewed as an exploit. It's a legitimate tactic. They can shoot you, you can shoot them. They can get up there with some luck, you can get up there too. It's not like they get inside a building or box where they can shoot out but no one can shoot in. On titan maps it's even easier, with all of the podding and aircraft. I don't see what the big deal is, trying to get the higher ground.

As other people have said in other threads, it's often a lot easier to snipe the people on the roof with their nice silhouette against a bright background and PK rockets really make it much easier.

If the roe allows server owners on ranked servers to disallow this activity or to disallow attacking uncaps why cant a ranked server owner disallow people from using guns grenades or vehicles:laugh:

I'm quite sure that it's an official server provided by EA. I can't read Thai so I must rely on my friend. Since I live in Thailand, the best server with lowest ping I can find is these Thai EA servers. My friend(He is Thai) told me that the admin is choosen from many players playing on this server. My friend also told me that this admin said in Thai EA forum something like

He checked with Colin(from dice I think) that it is now official that accessing rooftop is an exploit and will be banned from server.

I thought Colin said somewhere in this forum that it's not an exploit :confused:
I know it might sounds unfair to some players but it's hard to get down the rooftop when you are lucky to get on there :cry: Anyway I must follow the rules if I want to stay on this server. But is it really official that its an exploit?

Join squad, with squad beacon equipped. Make it on top of building, leave squad start your own, deploy squad beacon.

The squad leader can also have a squad member destroy the old beacon or he can lean over the edge of the building and destroy it himself.

Public Ranked Servers and Private rented clan servers may introduce custom rules that apply only to their servers and which result in minor changes to gameplay. Prohibiting use of a weapon, is not the same as changing game play like "No attacking uncap bases"

ok a SL can place a SLB next to a building .. at times you will drop on top of the building its next to,since you dont drop directly on top the beacon.. then the SL can either lean off the building and blow the beacon up or have a mate do it ... he then places a new beacon from his kit on top the building hes on....

EA last i heard has deemed this game mechanics and inovative play and not a glitch...so while not against ROE, it is up to the servers to allow or not.....

Please, don't even start with that excuse.

This is NOT real war.
This is a game.
Real war is not fun.
Games are about having fun.

If a server admin deems some tactic to be disruptive to the fun of the server, it's their call to disallow it. Especially when it's a grey area between exploit or not like this issue is.

its a game and not real world while yes it is a sim.. we all know if it was real war you wouldnt get endless lives...there has to be some inconstancies to "real life" to make the game worth playing....

The server admins have the right to make changes that "in their eyes" make for a more fun playing experience.. as long as they dont violate TOS or ROE... if you dont like a servers rules.... find another server .. theres a few hundred out there last time i looked ..;)

last time i checked we have no main camp rule, camp away young padewan. we have nothing against podding on a roof, heck you can even surf a drone to the heavens and none will care less, want to know why? because we all know how to kill you with ease once you get up there and you just effectively took yourself out of the game trying to be a rooftop ninja.

I remember some kind of glitch with pods .. something about them zipping all over the map.. but i thought that was fixed with the last patch...

and that is not the same as what the OP Posted.. getting on a roof top by a squad beacon, last i Heard was not considered a glitch by EA and is fair play...

actually you dont have to spin crap to get on the roof.. just like i posted a SL can put the SLB next to a building and you can land on the roof .. first time it happened to me i was like cool.... i wasent trying for it .. it just happened....

as far as I know Dice still says spawn beacon onto roof is normal game mechanics, which makes it part of a kit and an Admin can not force you to not use your kits or unlocks in anyway. Quite simple.

hey stang :) .. i got in to this at BFROE i was told a server CAN enforce minor chages in game play including these changes .. as long as they dont fully restrict a weapon kit etc...

theres a thread about servers restricting APM's around Capture points like silo and flags and I was told "its the servers Descression"

If a player is able to use the spawn beacon to drop onto a roof and then place a new spawn beacon there after the old one is destroyed, then this would be considered legal from a Rules of Conduct standpoint.

However, some server administrators may still consider this to be 'cheating' and they have the right to remove players who use this technique. Additionally, EA reserves the right to alter or amend this policy in the future. If the policy is changed, we will make all reasonable efforts to inform the community of the change.

It was finalised after [H]Pod13 Eversenth started to use it a lot.
