Well like most of us I installed Update 1.20 On Windows XP Pro .. Guess What It crashes to desktop. hehehehehee what a surprise!!! lol

Well I run a dual boot system. Windows XP Pro And Vista.

Well since XP crashes to desktop just for fun I rebooted into Vista.... Guess what IT WORKED IN VISTA!!!!!! ROFLMFAO!!!!!! But Dont Work In XP How Moronic!!!

Man I cant Wait Till QUAKE WARS get out from ID Software.

I have never had so many problems with any game like I have with 2142 What a Piece Of Crap ROFLMFAO!!!!

I would only CTD when trying to join a game maybe every 5 games I join. So If this patch improves it to every 10 times I would be happy enough lol. If it makes it worse...then I will be mad. Nothing we can do really.

So far the total changes that have effected me are Spawn beacon no longer crashes me to desktop (though it rarely did that anyways) so yay, but now everytime i use the uav drone it explodes instantly ... so all in all its one of those annoying patches but meh.

First I've never had any problems related to dual booting ever. Maybe other people do but it's never caused any problems for me or the other people I know that dual boot.

As for why is pretty obvious in this case. Vista is brand new and has compatibilty and driver issues at the moment so having a second operating system that everything will work with is almost essential.

It also makes it much less of a chore to reformat and reinstall Windows when needed. It can help you recover data when Windows suddenly wont boot for no apparent reason. You can also use one version of Windows for secure business work and not have to worry about screwing it up with driver updates and other stresses that gaming puts on a computer. I'm sure there are other reasons that I can't think of immediately either.

As for people complaining that nothing gets fixed. Im sure that even though you complain, as soon as you are done replying to this you are going to start up BF2142. If the things you complain about are THAT BIG OF A DEAL, dont play!! Its simple!! I have never complained about a patch and I still play! Im used to the CTD's (which is currently my only issue).

Adressing your last point first here. The two OS's are entirely seperate. Only one is in use at once and they must be installed on seperate hard drives or at least seperate partitions on a hard drive to keep them isolated from each other. It has absolutely no effect on programs running on a whicherver OS you happen to be using at the time.

As for reinstalling Windows, it happens to helps keep your computer running as fast and as stably as it can. I would reinstall Windows regularly even if I was only running Windows XP.

The part about Windows Vista is just a personal choice. I enjoy playing around with computers and Vista is like a new toy. I find it enjoyable to mess around with but it's not ready to be my primary OS just yet.

Anyway this thread isn't supposed to be about dual booting so I'll just say that having a go at someone based on something you apparently know almost nothing about isn't a great idea.

Reinstalling an OS is not really a recognized form of troublshooting computer related problems. Meaning, you do not need to reinstall everytime something happens in order to keep things running smoothly. You have to maintain your installation and do the necessary work. Only people with very limited "real" computer knowledge do reinstall regularly as you say.

I may not know everything about comps, but I know how to keep mine clean, defraged & trouble free. I have owned comps for MANY years & have only EVER formatted when I replaced the HD's or installed a newer OS.

I could care less if they 10 OS's on their comp. I was just saying that complaining about having problems with a comp that has more then 1 OS on it, is NOT a credible complaint.

I just don't see any game developers, programmers, etc sitting around the conference table discussing the possibilties of making a bug-free game for those who have multiple OS's on ONE comp!

ever since I had the game I CTD until the first pacth was released..after that everything went very smooth with me, I havent installed 1.2 yet...

but seems to me that such problems also acure due to hardware conflict or os system stability....I know for sure that such thing plays a big role in those CTD issues.

I sometimes have CTD even after the first patch but rarely and I know it's due to my RAM...1GB doesnt seem to be enough and its not branded...

It doesn't matter how on top of things you are, over time Windows (naturally) begins to accumulate some bloat from software and hardware that has been installed and removed. You're a fool if you think Windows will run the same one year later with simple defrags and general computer maintenance. Driver updates don't always update properly. It's difficult to actually get Windows to remove old drivers (Yes, I know of DriverCleaner). A reinstall is good for any computer system. It cleans out all the junk registry entries (Which is loaded into memory at each computer startup). Just like how a reboot will revitalize a sluggish session, a reinstall revitalizes the OS completely.

Anyway, dual booting in no way, shape, or form is causing any issues with this guy and his XP vs Vista 2142 problem. It sounds more like a DLL is out dated or corrupted in his XP install (Complaining of missing entry points and what not). Instead of bitching about a patch pointing out the problem in his system, he should simply download an updated DLL.

Ok, after making a backup of my BF2142 folder I installed the 1.2 Patch. Seems to be working for me so far, no issues of any kind (yet). So, there is hope.

Well i got the patch installed, everything went smooth. I had one LOCK up when i was playing. The game froze, which has NEVEr happend. Usually a CTD. I must say that explosive shotgun thing is pretty entertaining. Havent really tried anything else but the radar smoke thing which is fairly useless. Unless i throw it and it actually does what its supposed to :rolleyes:

I registered for Gamespy comrade a while ago and used that account to get it offfile planet, it didn't take as nearly as long as it did on the bf website. And on my other computer i used EA link which was pretty fast as well, atleast faster than the website.

the new patch works great for me. everything is running as smoothly as can be expected on my aged decrepit machine. and i understand this is a forum where you can express your opinion, and speak your mind but the Quake Wars FanBoy Bull shrimp is getting really old. IMO the Quake series has ALWAYS been lame. it's entertaining for about a week... and then it gets old with all the retarded looking monsters trying to shoot you with their star wars guns.

I must be the luckiest person who plays BF2142, never had a CTD never experienced Titan lag, never had any issues with this game. The only things the patches fix for me are glitches that people exploit, and this one throws in some new content.

D/l from EA pages - 0.5 b/s or something equally annoying. A two day download or something. EALink - 20 minutes tops with a decent broadband connection. I was amazed at the difference in speed considering it was effectively the same source.
