This was it. This was what my years of training all came down to. Whether I make it out of this frozen wasteland or become another corpse of the embryonic war. The UD-12 Shepherd I was in slowly hovered into the area while the gunners were firing away like madmen at the infantry who thought they could take down a transport with a pistol…
“Will we make it Sarge?” asked Pvt. Ryan who sat to the right of me in the transport and was nervously darting his eyes around while fumbling with his rifle.
It was typical of a private to ask those questions. They were such naïve, bags of fresh meat…
“I don’t know private. Are you gonna be a moron and get your self killed out there or will you use that lump of cotton candy you call a brain and return home without missing any body parts?”
“I’ll use my cotton candy, Sarge.”
“That’s what I thought you said… Now straighten up and go over basic battle rules. One, listen to your commanding officer, he is always right. Two, use your instincts unless told otherwise by your commanding officer, because he is always right. Third, when in doubt, ask your commander officer… why?”
“Because he is always right, sir.”
“Good job. So you ain’t such a useless bag of meat after all.”
I took a good look at the rest of my squad. Some of them had been with me ever since the beginning of this damn war. Some were fresh meat who asked me if they were going to live. But all of them were my soldiers that I had to train into the best damn PAC-eating machines there ever were.

So, what do you guys think? I wrote a little more but It's not ready for public release yet :p heh
