Do some of you try and get the purple heart on purpose?

I was browsing players stats and i noticed that alot of them had good K/D ratios along with a purple heart. So my question is do some of yall actually try and get the purple heart even though you are an above average or average player.

lol i got mine the first day I played. It was a conquest match and I was playing against some pros and I got rez killed every time I spawned. I didn't try to get it and I don't like it but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Luckily since then, I haven't even came close to getting another one:rock:

I've heard that if you get five purple hearts, then you get a 5,000 career point bonus. I've gotten 4 so far. I should have my fifth later today.

Nope. Just had one of those rounds where nothing went right- spawning into silos as an APC was capping & spewing grenades, or an arty barrage, etc. Worst round *ever.* Ended it like 12:22, but hit the 5:20 mark on the way there, and the damage was done. :(

I would be totally happy if I had 1 of every pin, all ribbons, all gold badges, and all medals EXCEPT the purple heart. It's more rewarding to see it grey than to have it in color...but I may as well get it anyway! :laugh:

I guess most people who has it but has a good K/D got it in the very beginning they were playing. Like me I got it on my second day getting spawnraped in Berlin after a few fortunate kills.

But now I look at it and think of it as one of the medals in my collection: "I took a beating but got back up again (and again...)".

I got one purposely in BF2 way back in the day. Haven't come anywhere close to one in 2142.

Yeah I got one the first day in BF2 but haven't in 2142. I don't plan to get one intentionally, thats the one medal you SHOULDN'T be proud to have ;)

IMO players who say they worked to get the medal are really just trying to cover up that they got owned in a round and are not proud of it. I, unfortunately tried to get it in BF2 and i couldnt die 20 times ^_^

I have not received one in BF2142 and dont plan to, i average around a 3KD ratio a round so im a way off it yet. :D

I got mine trying to clear an enemy defence squad on a Titan.. we both had Spawn beacons down almost next to each other... and all both of our squads did was spawn on top of the Titan trying to destroy the other teams beacon (or players)...

We were the only squad able to get up there and effectively press and attack so we weren't going to let our beacon (and our chances to get back on their titan) get destroyed..

I think every member of the two squads got a purple heart that round. You would spawn take two steps and get killed, then spawn again to kill a couple of the enemy and get killed, then one of the enemy player would spawn and get killed over and over... It was a bit fustrating but funny at the same time...

I never got a purple heart even on BF2. I once tried on BF2 I used shock paddles ONLY in Karkand for whole day. I got quite a new amount of kills with shock paddles (was so freaking funny) and huge teamwork points *Cough*

I've never gotten one, because if I did, then I would be the suckiest ever. I think I'd kill my parents for having me and then kill myself shortly afterwards if I ever got one. Whew. Glad I'm not as sucky as the sucks who get this suck medal.

I've gotten it twice, once when I joined a server as PAC con Camp that wasn't Autobalance, the EU had 5 more men when the game started and the server switched me back to PAC everytime I tried to move over. So. Much. Spawn camping. I'd spawn with at least 2 guys and some vehicle staring at me each time. It stayed like that until I got kicked for yelling "F*** YOU ALL WH****S" with no asterisks

What's the big deal about getting a purple heart?
The TWO (yup TWO- and the sky didn't fall in!!!) times I've gotten them were in rounds where my team was getting absolutely reamed (as sometimes happens to the PAC on certain conquest maps or in losing titan maps)

In those situations you have the choice-

sit back to protect my stats, quit the server, teamswitch (what guys with no purple hearts do)
OR
Get stuck in and try and turn it around: charge that hill/ coridoor/ reactor room. Who cares if I die 20+ times?

The second purple heart I got was on a titan map where the only way to win was to take their reactor room fast (we had almost no hull left on our titan).

My squadmates and I squeaked a win by repeated kamikaze runs on their coridoors and reactor room. Our titan had 1mm of hull left and our team mates were busy padding their stats defending our titan. Maybe I could have done it differently and tried harder to get kills/ not die but whatever.

in bf2 i had 9 but it counts only 1 : (

in 2142 and demo i got 5 so far but so far only 1 each account + 1 i had in the demo, so i do not know if it counts more then 1, i sure hope it does : )

even if you want to get them its freaking hard, unless you suicide 20x in a row, but most likely you be auto kicked because thats -40 points

Not me. My one purple heart was the result of an honest streak of bad luck. Having an opposing team loaded with Steven Segal (During his Under Siege years) clones didn't help.

I got mine on purpose. I thought the whole idea of this medal was hilarious, so I really hacked it up one round to make sure I got it. But it's really amazing the amount of people who would be truly offended if they ever got one. Geez, lighten up people, it's just a game!

Besides, it's a really nice shade of purple. :D

I had one in bf2 ( I think ) but im trying to avoid it here. Whenever my ratio is falling down im going to take it easy and try to avoid getting killed before I kill someone.

I got one on the first day! I was sightseeing the things in the other maps and i got shot multiple times while i was trying to climb certain hills and of course i got killed by spamming 9 and falling to my death! :p

it is very easy to get if you try, just get 5 kills, then get yourself killed until you have it, but i dont see why you would want it

Never even been close to getting it... But that doesn't mean I haven't had rounds where I ended up with negative score and all that. But even when I do bad I'm fairly close to my deathrate, so I have luckily never considered the Purple Heart an issue.

I got one today! I was in two minds as to wether or not to get it to fill out my medal table but fate decided for me.

Was playing as engineer on one of the new maps and got completely slaughtered! :(

I got my purple heart the very first day i played - one of my clan members took me onto a 48 slot Berlin map - man they whored our flags :(

But thats the only one i got - and i don't plan to get more.
