I just got a little idea here, if we all are total fans of BF2142 why don't we set up a pool of people who will fund a server? Everyone will just pay $5 or so a month, or less if more people want to. We'd all get reserved spots and admin for those who pay double. If enough donate I'd certainly look into buying a slot, though I couldn't rent the server...

Alot of us belong to clans/communities and play on their own respective servers.

I'll only play on the server I co-own, since I'm paying good money for it.

Ive scene quite a few people here on the Tactical-Gamer servers, Band of brothers, and the bfroe official server. Just search for em, you cant miss em, and there almost always full (which kind of sucks for TG, since you always get kicked to make room >< )

+1. I'm already paying to help run our servers so I'm not too interested on helping to run another one. It's a good idea though, but many of the people with money to put towards servers are already doing that with clans/communities.

Yeah, I'd love to have one, just hoping some 20 or so people can get together and put out some money for an okay server, ranked or not, thinking of bringing the idea to other forums so every can contribute less...

But this is exactly what a clan does. Why not just join a clan, pay your $10 per month, and also have some great teamwork players to get gaming with?

yea, I think this was tried over at TotalBF2 as well, but it never took off.

The other downside is letting those who pay double be admins. If the ability to manage a server well was simply down to an ability to pay money there would be a whole lot more Skunk_2142's out there. Then where would we be?

What about setting up 1 USA server AND 1 EU server? Just add some more ads on T2142.com and the costs are covered :D. I think it'll be pretty much full, since there are so many members and viewing guests.. good idea it is!

$4 per every slot you want per month on average. Some places have sales from time to time where the cost per slot is cheapter so do a bit of research. Your other option is to rent a dedicated server. These will probably be $200 and up and you get a set number of slots to divide up between several servers. MyIS gives 120 slots for $265 and 5 different server IP's. With a dedicated server you get more for less, but they are on the expensive side.

well, i just recently bought a server and no one has gone into it yet :hmm:
id love for you guys to come play in it, cuz the only way ill keep the server going is if people actually play! it is the server in my sig 24/7 The Power of Lard. its currently running Conquest maps. as far as reserved slots, i dont really have a solution to that yet, maybe when people start playing on it more, ill come up with something....come on guys, get in my server!!! lol

Playing with other TB2142 people sounds great, but I barely even have time to play with my own clan these days. Still, if someone could work out the logistics, I think it'd be a great idea. I'd love hunting down all the Voss haters on this forum.

Everyone pay $5 a month, take away paid expansions, and have EA/DICE controlling ranked servers that always have slots available. Clans can purchase servers for clan matches, etc, but admining is left up to BFROE. It works well for Blizzard, why not adapt that model?

A game like WoW doesnt have clan servers because for the purpose of the massive part of massive mutiplayer online roleplaying game it requires server farms, simply not something a clan can go out and buy. That model suites that game type.
Second life is similar and has a model that also works, maybe we should have to buy unlocks with real money, perhaps pay for the vehicles we crash and get charged if we get revived or need ammo?
This is beside the point though since the alternatives to 2142 provide similar functionality for free, do you believe people silly enough to pay for something that they can have for free?

Total-Clan sounds like a much more organized form of the plan, at least Vika is on board when he moves, only 50 dollars each, lol

So I couldn't just build some crazy box stick it in my basement and run in a big fat pipeline to it?

You can, but it won't be ranked. If it's not ranked nobody will want to play it and you'll be wasting your bandwidth and hardware. You have to be an EA Ranked Partner to host ranked 2142 or BF2 and to even be considered for that program you have to host X number of public 2142 and/or BF2 game servers. These servers don't have admins so you're not making any money on renting them out.
