View Full Version : How many others don't care too much about badges?

The reason I'm asking is because lately everyone seems to be obsessed with getting this or that badge. I understand that trying to go for those ones that will give you mega points is important if you are working for a certain unlock, but what about when you've unlocked everything you want? Why does it matter, honestly? And no, I don't have all the unlocks; I'm like 33/40 I think, but I've tried the ones I don't have through field upgrades and I'm happy for the time being. In other terms I can kit out any way I like and have a good time.

For instance, I am pleasantly suprised when the award graphic pops up if I've acheived a badge or a ribbon. I think the only ones I've actually set out to get were the titan drop and the halo pin... I just can't seem to get interested in finding out how many so-and-so kills I need for whatever award. Maybe it's just me, but that's why I'm asking. How many more are there out there like me?

It matters to me now because I'm not a Brig. General. But when I get Brig, I won't care about badges at all. I still have tons of fun caring about badges and earning badges. Grinding and badge earning doesn't necessairly mean boring and repetitive and lame.

Count me in. Not bothered in the slightest about badges ribbons or pins.

What I am bothered about is getting maximun kills per game. As I only
generally play support I'm now in the top 50 for both LMG's and that gives me immense satisfaction.

What few awards I've got have just come naturally from playing the game.

I like working towards the awards because it lets me play the game in ways I usually wouldn't. If you do the same thing over and over it is bound to get boring.

I agree...being a new player at this (with some time on BF2 etc) I am not as keen about getting the awards as I am getting the points to get unlocks etc...it is a surprise to get awards and always makes me laugh or smile at how the heck I got it in the first place...LOL...but I cant play it often enough to get serious about all the awards anyway :D

I like them but I wish they were extremely hard to achieve, allowing only the few really good and dedicated to achieve them like BF2 early days.

Also I wish EA tweaked the award to be achieved using an strict specific method.

One example is if you want to get a gold badge with a kit, you must make global kills with all weapons related to that kit, used the all unlocks related to that specific kit for a good amount of time and remove the IAR criteria and make it global. It will feel more like experience points and also encourage players to become very good with a kit if they want the gold.

They're kinda fun challenges that keep the game fresh, force me to give more kits/vehicle some time to adjust before swearing off, and it's a good time using teamwork with friends to achieve goals (but not stat-padding, booooo!)

Every time I load up the game I go to BFHQ and cycle through all the awards I don't have. I'll pick something that's close to meeting the requirements and work on that...for example, yesterday I met the requirements to get the Assault Gold Badge so I went on a Conquest Server and fought my @ss off until I got it. Now i'm working on Support. I still have a few hours to go before I can get gold but now every time I play, I go as support.

I don't really consider it stat padding because i'm still capping flags and supporting my team all along the way.

I just enjoy doing it one badge at a time because it gives you that extra little objective to fight for.

You really should have a "I go for them if im really close otherwise dont care much" cuz thats my mentality when it comes with awards.

I like them, it gives you something to work for and when you achieve it, it rewards you with points which work towards your next rank. For me it's the sense of accomplishment, but to be honest i'd still enjoy the game without them.

There was a time when I cared until RL caught up with me and I remembered they were only pixels.

I worked on the air defense ribbion this week. It was alot of fun. Now Im working on the pistols. A kill here and a kill there... it all adds up. Surprising how angry people get when they get gunned down from 10 feet away by a 357 after spraying a blast of Bianchi half the room.

But Ive all the blingage I wanted from the game, the rest of it is just pure fragging.

Don't care but they are nice to get when your not trying.

I cared about the ones that gave me lots of points until I got BG. Now I just kind of pick and choose if I feel like getting an award or not. I've had Gold SL available for a month or 2, but didn't ever try to get it (I hate being SL).

I care because I still have about 4 more unlocks until I'm really satisfied with what I've got and they're fun to go for...

No, they are an integrated part of the ranking system.
I don't want it to be like bf2 where most players was unable to get more than half of the unlocks.

The "really good and dedicated" are a tiny minority, the rest of the players should not be denied content just to please them.

The medals on the other hand could be changed to be really hard to achieve. Currently they seem to be awarded mostly for time played.
They have no real impact on the game since they have zero point value.

I'm a brig general now but they still matter to me, i've got all the unlocks and played every map and done just about every conceivable thing on them so the only real fun left in it for me is setting myself challenges like going for gold on every badge. I just wish there were higher ranks then brig general obtainable without unlocks, like there was in BF2. Its something nice to have a goal set for you.

They can be useful in the sense that they force you to play something different from what you are used to. For example quit playing assault to play support or engineer and try to become relatively decent at it.
The added points are a nice bonus. They can be an goal, but in my opinion, they must not become an obsession (except for the silver knife badge, I really wanted this one :p)
