View Full Version : First Strike Mod Ranked
Man, EA better work this out with the First Strike mod and it's team. It's not that I personally want it to be a ranked mod it's just that if it's not ranked not too many people will be playing it at least compared to how many people played GC on 1942. This game should be based on fun and the fun that mods bring to it. I mean they intended for this game to be really mod community friendly but if they don't allow this First Strike mod to go ranked they know that it'll shoot it down to **** compared to what it could be.
So this is a public request to EA that they rank this mod for more people's attraction. I find more fun in having alot of people that play the mod as would everybody else and I'd like the mod to live and stay alive for quite a while. Oh, and the space battles are gonna be epic and REALLY fun! Can't wait to take off with a tiefighter from an ISD and own some rebel ***! :D

I'm intrigued by the premise of the mod but I have no delusion that it will ever be ranked.
It would be nice to have new, free ranked content but I don't see any way it will happen. For starters EA would have to redo the stat feeds because there will undoubtedly be new vehicles and weapons that a stat feed wouldn't know what to make sense of. This alone will probably be enough of a reason for it to never happen, but it would be nice.

If it was ranked, why would ppl pay for bf2142 then, when they could play that for free...?

I could be wrong, but in order to play mods you generally need the game installed that the mod is for...
In other words, people would have to buy the game still to play that mod or any other mod.

How did they rank SF for BF2? Did they just add new weapons in? I guess they have to have, eh? I never really got into BF2. Also, I coulda sworn I saw somewhere at some point in a community update from EA saying that they will look at some mods and give them an approval of being ranked after they reviewed them and thought that they were balanced enough for being ranked.

Ya dude, you gotta BUY the actual game before you can play any mods for the game. I guess you never played Battlefield 1942, eh?

One thing you haven't learned about EA/DICE decisions is that they are always made to increase sales. While First Strike has lots of potential, you don't have to buy anything else to play it and it would probably have to reach a level of popularity equivalent to DC for '42 before anyone over there would decide that ranking the mod would increase game sales.
With SF/AF/EF/NS EA got some money back for the time it took to redo the stats. I'm not defending them or saying it's a bad idea to have new ranked content but I am coming from a practical standpoint that they probably won't read this or do anything to include any kind of ranking in the game.
Yeah, I'm aware that at least EA is only concerned about sales. They don't give a **** about the community that plays their games. They've made what, at least 2 mil from 2142 sales? Don't you think they could give back to us... but no they don't! DICE is at least taking community suggestions and feedback to formulate new patches. They also do community based things such as the DICE Dog Tag Challenges. I wish it were DICE that was in control of the stats. EA even took my stats away and I pleaded my case to the edge of my sanity but did they give a ****? Nope, they just kept on saying the same thing no matter how much evidence I gave them that I wasn't cheating. They kept on saying that there were pointers in my stats that I cheated wtihout telling me what they were and never restored my stats. It just goes to show how selfish those EA bastages are. I'm sorry... I've turned this into a rant. I hope no EA employees see this and take it too personally. :(

First Strike is a MOD. Not a complete game. It doesn't have the entire game engine built into it, it just alters the models, skins, levels, etc to such a degree that it seems like a new game. It's like customizing a car. You can change the paint job, tires, grill, spoiler, etc but the engine and frame are still the same.

No, the EA account login and soldier login are still present so the CD key checks and whatever else they have are still going to see if you have a legal version of the game. If you don't then you won't get anywhere.

If it was ranked it would be nice but I highly doubt EA would rank a mod, even one as nicely done as First Strike.

I think a lot of people anticipating First Strike (like me) are bored with 2142 and are looking for something new and original. At least, that's how I see it. I want to get away from all the rank whores and actually have some fun.
BF2 is now played more than BF2142. EA and Dice have shown once again that they don't care about us. Most rank-obsessed people already have all the unlocks. People are bored. And considering the massive amount of hype for this mod, it should get quite a few players when it is released, regardless of whether it has rankings :)

Well, congratulations.
You've just managed to present so many unfair and unsupported comments in a shot post than I'm not sure where to begin...
Let's start with "Dice doesn't care". Of bloody course they care. We're talking about their market base which provides their income. They want their base to enjoy their game and give it a good long life cycle, just as they've done with every title they've released to-date. They have demonstrated that they care in their communication with the community. They have demonstrated it by releasing a patch which addressed a large number of player concerns. They've shown they care by actually playing their game and being gamers themselves.
As for BF2 having a larger player base, why would this be surprising in the slightest? For a long time BF1942 had a larger player base than BF2. It's foolish to believe that just because something new comes out that it will draw a larger number of players than previous titles which have had more time to penetrate the market and preform better on lower end computer systems (which there are a hell of a lot of out there). Case in point: the original CS still has a larger player base than CS:Source.
Stat/rank whoring was much worse in BF2, in my personal experience. I think the diversity of unlocks and awards has mitigated whoring to some extent in 2142... not to mention better balanced mechanics. It's simply harder to whore things in 2142 and it's harder to even tell that someone is whoring because it simply doesn't matter (beyond Titan gun and hallway spammers, that is).
If you're bored with 2142, maybe you should try playing on some different servers/maps and use different kits. Admittedly, there seems to be less variety in this release, but I think that largely has to do with the number of servers all running the same few maps. The same thing happened with BF2 when huge numbers of servers were all running just the city maps. Beyond that, play something else for awhile. Everything gets stagnant when you over do it.
Finally (and on topic), I personally hope that the First Strike team manages to develop a local stats system. I lost track of the development of locally ranked servers for BF2, so I don't know how it fared, but it sounded like a great idea. Non-ranked servers would keep their own databases and could use them for tailor made awards/stats/upgrades. If they were to implement something like that, I'm sure it would make a lot of people very happy.

I imagine it'll either use it's own ranking system or none at all. I don't see why it would be needed though.
