View Full Version : OMG I hate auto balance...

I just got through another crushing defeat. My side was pulverised by a guy with the Krylov for the first 90% of the game , he had 4-1 KD ratio , multiple heals and had single handedly captured all but 1 flag on camp gib, some with 3-5 defenders.
Of course that guy was me ,( I may suck in tanks etc but infantry maps Im better since I played CS a lot) but again I get a lossI have auto balance to thank..I have 0.98 win-loss ratio , but if i played on auto balance off I would be 2 or 3 to 1.
So the choices:
1)continue to end of round to get the gold star . and to avoid having to change servers EVERY round :) and forget the win-loss ratio....but I am A CS player and round victory counts for me.Not enough people feel the same and thats a design problem for me with this game.I agree you need a win bonus.
2)quit the moment you get switched ( normally when its 200-100 and people are leving the server due to getting pwned)
3).play on auto balance off servers....not great either when you are left with 10 v 3 ...I also find people switch to my team ftw ( and the opposite on titan mode hehe)
I dont actually know, if I win 90% of the round then get switched just before the end , do I get a loss ? If so thats dumb.
Given all these problems , how can you tell the difference between a camper/stat paddr who scores loads but doesnt help the team ( eg by brave and risky flag captures) , cos you cant look at his win-loss ratio....I think the better i play the more I get losses on some servers....
The only solution Ive got is to play on v busy servers where people are much less likely to log off just to avoid a loss. But then I want to play with my AKS clan ( we have no server) and its a real hassle to get us all on a busy server....plus my PC crashes every 5 minutes some days ( mostly its fine)
anything Im missing all you good players with the war ribbon ??? pleeeese hehe ?

Just to let you know, if you log off you are awarded a loss!
So those people that leave when there team only has like 10 tickets are still awarded a loss (am not sure if you get a win, for leaving the winning side, or whenever disconnecting anytime during a round is an automatic loss)
Plus it is less likely you will be switched if in a squad (or so they say)
ps: i have the War College Ribbon :p My advice, kick start winning some games lol

1: Join a squad if you don't want to be moved over.
2: The interface is completely retarded when it comes to how easy it is to accidentaly switch team.

Yea i hate it when you are clicking squads or something and accidentally click the oter team at the top and are moved!

yep, if you are in a squad, auto balance will NOT move you.
if you are moved in a squad, it is because an admin switched you.
most admins won't, but some will. i've sometimes done it if i see two players with the same IP as but on opposite sides.

What was that? you swap people on to opposite sides if they have the same IP?
Bardo

in the past... i've done it a handful of times.
... in the past, mainly with bf2
1 of the regulars on our server (in teamspeak) mentioned that he and his brother would be on opposite sides and give each other intel on their respective team... sorta cheating ya know? so, my gaming community tossed around the idea of watching that and making sure same IP's were on the same team.
edit: rarely do 2 people with the same IP play, so its almost never an issue. and 90% of the time they want to be on the same side anyways... so yeah, very very rare.

Or in the same house, eg: brothers.
My mate has 4 pc's in one room (his/2 brothers/dad)

Me and my housemate play on the same router. We're usually on the same side but if on opposites it's a matter of pride to completely own the other guy. No intel asked for - non given!!!

i'm sure most of the time it isn't an issue. i'm just saying for us it was.... so sometimes we did something about it. =)
not much harm in that.... but i do see how people could get ticked off at it. hasn't been an issue with 2142

as far as i know, when you leave server at the time your side's leading, you're given a win, and vice versa, unless i'm much mistaken.

AB can be a pain, but I would wager that most servers that have AB off have Smartbalance on. Smartbalance does the same thing that AB does except it doesn't switch predefined clan tags or commanders. Also the squad leader and squad members are supposed to be switched only after all lone wolves have been switched (it has settings so depending on what it's set to what I just said may or may not be true on that particular server).
Smartbalance has it's own set of bugs and sometimes it does loopy stuff like swap a squad leader when there are 5 lone wolves, but a lot of clans are going to use it so they aren't constantly getting teamswitched. Smartbalance also does not show up via the server browser filters or on the loading screen so it's pretty impossible to know whether that AB off server has smartbalance on or not.
Ultra complicated solution: join a clan that uses smartbalance so you never get team switched on their server while wearing their tags.

Well that explains some things for me...
There have been a few times when the squad I was leading was ripping everything up and then I found myself on the other side out of the complete blue. Now I have to wonder if an admin didn't like how well my squad was doing (invariably, we'd get #1 squad for the round... or, the rest of my squad, at any rate, while I was gritting my teeth at the debrief screens knowing I should still have been with them).

Solution, they should make it so you cannot leave any game, EVER. If you attempt to press the disconnect button they wipe your hard drive and set the little bomb in your 2142 disk off. That way you can never play again, AND, you character keeps spawning and being killed. Same happens if you try to power down your computer, BOOM!
Now the real question, would that make more problems than it would solve?

=\ You shoulda been squadding up 2600 rounds ago even if you didn't have to incentive to dodge autobalance...
Also, Ezekiel, are you sure about that? I'm pretty sure you're awarded a win based on whether your team wins or not...

I wish they would make it that people not in squads would be the first to get team switched.

Well am not positive, if you quite and the team you were on loses you get a loss, if you quit and the team you were on wins (am not sure lol)

Nope, if the side you are on loses, even if they are ahead when you leave, you get a loss.

And I'm pretty sure you get a win if the side you were on wins after you leave. The state of stats are preserved when you leave a server, so it's like you're still in the game but never respawned. Thus, when the server sends the data at the end of the round, it just marks it as if you were still playing.

the admin tools i have used, only allow switching after a players death. so, if you don't die or your always being rez'd... you'll never get switched even if an admin wants you to. they surely can't kill you with admin tools.
also, sometimes you get everyone on the server in a squad (when populations are low).... that could be a time an admin wishes to switch a player in a squad for a good reason.
i would have to point out... the admin's for 2142 seem to be MUCH, MUCH better and cooler than on bf2. anyone notice that? just this weekend i was playing bf2... shot a heli with my anti-tank rocket at point blank range as it was hovering over me to kill me.... i killed them and their carcass landed on me killing me (so it said Bardo is no more).... i got kicked for ramming. their moronic admin kicked me for no good reason. this just doesn't seem to be much of a problem with 2142... but this is another story.

Nah Braveman made a mistake in what he wrote, he lost 2 points cos he wa switched teams, he then lost another 2 points for switching himself back onto our team!
It was weird how he was switched first time cos had just spawned then it said no-more and he was on other team, but it wasn't the admins who did that, must of been an error or somethin!

Dont use any single award as the basis for "expertise". There are many knowledgeable players around that can help you immensely when it comes to advice.
That being said, you will find that there are times that no matter how good you are, an crap team just cant be helped. If you see players spawning in and they are just standing there looking around, that isnt a good sign and time for you to leave that server or switch teams... unless you want a challenge.

I had a very interesting experience on the Total Mayhem Camp Gibraltar server a few days ago.
Server administrator (-nV-TerminalX or something) decides to start manually "balancing" the teams in the middle of a round and moves me while I'm squad leading and then denies switching me. I switch back and then get accused of stacking the teams because I went back to the squad I WAS LEADING. This went on for a while as he did it two more times.

You don't lose 2 points for switching teams unless you were alive and you clicked on the other team's tab to switch. An admin cannot switch you while you are alive and an admin cannot make you suicide to switch you.
I don't know what your friend lost points for, but if you only try to switch teams while you are dead you don't get charged with a -2 for suiciding every time you try to switch teams.
Ezekiel
05-14-2007, 04:15 PM
Well you still sometimes do, but i think that is just if you switch whilst critically wounded, if you wait the 15 seconds you don't lose any points (i think).
Thats why he lost the 2 point's the first time i don't know what happened, and i know it wasn't admin cos i have admin'd servers and know you cant suicide ppl!

i too have noticed a -2 for trying to switch teams unsuccesfully!
i now always make sure that the other team has 1 less person before i try.

This can't be entirely accurate. There has to be some threshhold after which you get the win/loss. You aren't saying that if you connect to a server and enter the game at the beginning of the round and immediately disconnect that you will take the win/loss, are you? There has to be some point past which you get/take the win/loss. Maybe it's the percentage of hull health left on the titan or number of tickets remaining or having played X number of minutes?
yep, if you are in a squad, auto balance will NOT move you.
I saw a thread that described the server settings for autobalance. You could prevent or allow switching of commanders, squad leaders and squad members. So if these are set to allow switching, anyone can be switched.
Anyone that runs a server - can you confirm this?
