View Full Version : Stop the Stuttering!

So recently, I've been having strange stuttering issues, especially when starting a BF2142 game after my computer has been on for a full day. I decided to mess around with my settings (I couldn't find out what was interrupting the BF2142 process).
I've found that running the game in high priority helps a lot. However, I (and I'm sure many others) can't alt+tab out of the game to switch the priority of BF2142 (plus it would just be a hassle to do every time). I decided I wanted the game to always run in high priority because... well, it's the only process I want taking up my CPU time when I'm playing. Just change the target of your shortcut for BF2142 to have the game always run in high-priority.
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "runhigh" /high "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +eaAccountName Ghiblian +eaAccountPassword #### +soldierName ghiblian
So far, I haven't had any issues with it. Since at worst, your game remains the same even with this change, there is no reason not to do this.

Hello, I felt like posting here. You have no posts, I pity you. I also have no idea what you are talking about, but that is fine, I don't speak binary.

most definetely not.
Thanks for the tip BTW. I noticed a small increase in unstuttering when i was multi-tasking (e.g. teamspeak, winamp)

Could you repeat that?

Ehm... should we just copy that to the shortcut or something?
I'm not a shark at this so I don't want to mess up.

Right-click on the BF2142 shortcut, click on the Shortcut tab, and replace your Target field with the line. Of course you can use whatever modifiers you want behind the link. And you have to adjust the folders if you don't have a default install of BF2142.
I didn't actually think about this because I don't use other programs while playing BF2142. If you use Teamspeak, a media player, FRAPs, or something else while playing, this trick might be perfect in making sure the other processes don't interrupt your game. However, I'm not sure if there are any side effects for those programs. Anyone have any "success" or failures with this trick?

I thought they make a program that does that? I saw it somewhere, I had it, but never tried it. I might give it a go now. Even with great frame rate when punkbusted runs it will sometimes stutter.

Hey sogek1ng, how do you know your headshots? Do you just make that number up?

1. Find the BF2142 directory again, the default is C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 the BF2142 directory
2. Right click anywhere in this folder and click New then Text Document.
3. Right click on the newly created file and rename it to bf2142.bat, The file should then turn into a little cog. If it doesn't, you will need to uncheck the 'Hide extensions for known file types' option checked in Tools > Folder options > View.
4. Right click your newly created bf2142.bat and click Edit.
5. Copy and paste the following into the notepad window that opens:
@echo off cd /d "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142" start /high BF2142.exe +menu 1 +fullscreen 1
1. Save your changes and close the Notepad window.
2. Right click the new bf2142.bat and click Send To -> Desktop (create shortcut)
3. Goto your desktop, and right click the new shortcut, then click properties.
4. Click on the "Change Icon" Button, and goto your game directory C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 and double click on your BF2142.exe This makes the shortcut have a real icon, not necessary, but makes it look way better.
5. Right click on the shortcut and rename it to "Battlefield 2142" or whatever you want really.

Changed to suit BF2142, by Me.

Your method is so much more convoluted when it does the exact same thing as mine. o.O I just take your statement and integrate it into the existing shortcut instead of creating a bat file just to host the statement...
This makes it easy for people as they just have to right-click on their current shortcut rather than go through that whole long process.

And if you are paranoid you can just create a copy of the shortcut and edit that instead, so you don't risk messing up the original.
There is really nothing here that requires a batch file.

That would be how many Infiltrator pins I have sir. Which I need to update thanks. I am sure I have more head shots then that, but I only count by pins, so people can't say I make up number. btw I am not the best, cause I don't whore out tunis harbor on snipers only maps. I play titian and other real games, So I think I am a ok usefull sniper, not someone that plays maps to pad their stats.

ghiblian,
Nice tip, i will have to give this a try later.

i seriously doubt that is being caused by additions the shortcut's command line.
this has been happening to a lot of people as of late, i get it from time to time and seems to be only on certain servers. seems though that restarting the two punkbuster services makes it go away for me at times. if it doesn't work i will just play a different server. if anything at all, its not consistent for me.
