Remember the hardest part is getting footage. Once you have that, editing takes almost no time.

Hey why does Fraps suck so much? I ran it on a really good computer that runs BF2142 at max settings with over 70 FPS, yet when I turn on fraps recording it slows it down to 14 FPS????

E6600
8800 GTX
2 GB Ram
7200RPM HDD SATA133

I have a 7900gs, 2g of ram and 2.6ghz x2

I'm able to run fraps easily at 30fps with all max settings, except for shadows just because they can be a disadvantage when playing.

When I made my vids, editing did take a pretty long time. Adding in pauses, zooms, effects and syncing footage up with the music can take a while. You are right about the footage though, it is sometimes hard to get quality footage and not just clips of easy kills.

Here's one of the movies I was talking about http://files.filefront.com/Pablo%5Cs2ndVidwmv/;7564517;/fileinfo.htmlhttp://files.filefront.com/Pablo%5Cs2ndVidwmv/;7564517;/fileinfo.html

i set fraps to 30 FPS
(70 fps seems to lag way to much...)

and the boxes are red cause you gotta save those movies onto your computer and then use the saved movies for your vid...if you use vid files directly from cam then boxes turn red and you cant use footage anymore
^learned that hard way :(

set fraps to the max fps, and reduce to half size.

that should be better.

Turning off sound recording helps too, but I still am at 16-19 FPS when capturing. Terrible.

Quick question, I think you have to record with 29.97 FPS in order to edit it in many programs. Windows Movie Maker will crash if you use another framerate, and Pinnacle Studio becomes crap if you use a different FPS.

DO any of your programs for editing allow you to use different FPS when recording?

Adobe premiere does it for me but it's for editing and not recording your footage (once you drop your footage into it you can specify what fps you want your movie project to run at).My fraps stuff is captured at 30 fps but 29.97 is recommended I think because it makes your file a bit size smaller with no visual difference...I'm also new to making movies so don't quote me ;)

One weird thing I've noticed doing my first movie is that fraps used to drop my fps down to 15-20 but now its a lot better but I haven't changed anything.

I can't work it out!

Man. I'd be happy with 35. Is that pipe dream? I can't stand playing at below 30.

I'm running on a X1600Mobility, 2GB RAM, 2gHz Core Duo laptop. Fraps should really only use the CPU, right?

Editing will go faster if you lay down your soundtrack first, then edit to the music. Just a tip from an ex tv editing guy....

How to use Vegas would be a good tool as I myself don't know how to use it. Would be a useful subject to post. Right now im using Ulead.

My computer cant capture w/o sacrificing too much FPS. I give up :(

Set your resolution down more. Or, use BattleDirectors features. If you have a demo, all you gotta do is record the camera track, then have it replay that while recording it. You can literally record 30FPS with your graphics settings maxed out.

But BattleDirector doesn't capture first person perspective, right?

Specs are embarassing:

Your best bet is to use the battlerecorder feature. It is the only way you can get good footage that won't lag you down while you play. Unfortunately, it is all third person.
