Why is it that in most 2142 rounds, no one bothers talking to each other. The most I usually hear is "gg" and sometime not even that!
The crappy layout of the text messages don't really help either. How are we supposed to talk with everyone yelling out "Medic!" and "Threat spotted" every 2 seconds?
I think the HUD should have a separate area for hand-typed chat messages and enable us to talk through the titan explosion and in the post game scoreboards.
yeah... this has been going on for a while now. Everybody here wants to see a new hud layout and we all especially want a decent posting time for all of our typed messages (its no fun when you type a really long message and it stays up for like three seconds...).

The crappy layout of the messages that mixes the radio spam with actual chat is the reason why nobody has conversations. Once you have 20 or 30 people in a server the messages scroll too fast for an effective conversation.
I agree that typed messages should be separate from radio chatter and the idea has been suggested over and over in BF2 and 2142. For whatever reason the people who could fix it never take the time.

Yea i miss this from CSS. Its developed text system in CS allowed for great conversations between players and friends.
In BF2142 this system has not been integrated well and doesnt really allow for conversation between players.

text messages should be the way they show on commander pane, while looking at the map, one sections is for player talk, and the other for all the shouting.

I've tried starting conversations multiple times. The only time that anyone seems to ever look at the Text area is before the match. (On TG there is a 1:30 break between each match) It can get really annoying, especially when playing as commander and no one can hear you on your mic.
And IMO, we don't really need to have all the dumb messages pop up in the chat center. Having the infantry/vehicles show up on radar is enough for me.

And it's annoying while you're typing close the the end of the round, and it just shifts to to end of round screen and your message never gets sent....

Well its a larger text font with a longer lasting text display, they have also recently updated it so when you chat you can see all of the messages said in the round and can scroll through them, much like MSN messenger.

You can do that in the console. Hit ~ and page up and down to scroll, but it's really mucky, like for instance the stuff is sometimes out of order and it takes a while for it to update. :(

Yer it is annoying not having text chats and I hope DICE sort this out. I got so pissed off that there was no chat I went and bought a mic but this only allows me to chat with my squad members and commander. However half the time only 1 or 2 have a mic and all we do is curse at being noob naded. DICE sort this out!!!
I still recommend a mic to everyone cause it kinda makes the game even more amazing as it is!! :)

I'm tired of typing messages letting guys know whats going on in the game and being ignored tor told to shut it. People for the most part don't care about teamwork, so they don't care to pay attention to heads up warnings on stuff.

It kills me that you don't have an opportunity to chat between rounds (txt or voip). Just that half-minute (or whatever) to say 'GG' and throw some props or have a laugh really builds a stronger community on a server.

Can only agree...
While VOIP might be the best option for talking with squadmates, it doesn't cover talkign to teammates or enemies. If I have a particularly good fight with an enemy, I want to tell him I had fun, but mostly I can't (or rather won't bother).
And all it takes to ruin any typing is a spamspotting commander...
So a new chatlayout. Remove it from the radiomessages.

They just need to get rid of the text messages that are spoken.
For example, I don't look up and see "JoeMoma: Throwing frag!" and think to myself "Gee, I better not run that way." I just hear "Throwing frag!" and watch myself. The text messages are useless. No one looks up there, they use their ears.

You can turn off radio messages. Search forum to check it.
This helps so you don't miss out on what little conversation goes on during the game. usually I just chat ingame using the VoIP. Then again I am not in game to chat up fellow chaps but to blow them to kingdom come.
