View Full Version : Shutting up the in-game messages?

How can i do to remove the MEDIC!!!, THREAD SPOTED!!!, and the like voice messages, :confused: i dont mean to remove them from the text chat, just remove the voice message.

I have a 7.1 system and sometimes i just want to hear the bullets, steps, explosion, etc, not all the excesive shouting in the game, specially when a good (sadly annoying) coomander is around. I want the enemies to show on my radar not to scream them to my hole neighborhood.

Any ideas?

I've been wondering about this one now also for a little over a week. The only think I think I could try, which I don't know if PB would allow it or not, is to rename those sound files. I haven't tried it yet and not sure when I'll actually try it, lol.

If you want to, let me know how it goes. I think what you're looking for is in
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\mods\bf2142\Sound_client.zip

Inside of there: VO/English/Grunt/No_filter

I have mine set in game to only play English voice overs. On the end, you see the No_filter, there is also Filter, but when I try to play them in VLC (it'll play OGG without a plugin), I hear nothing, so I dunno. Also, In VO/English, you'll see the Commander and SquadLeader folders as well. Those would/will probably want to be renamed as well (the files inside I mean).

If anyone tries this, lemme know how it goes.

I would like to know how to eliminate the bulk of them too and also hear the battle noises. As it is now, I mostly play with the sound completely off, and switch among the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s hits, XM radio stations, "free" thru AOL.

isnt there a volume setting for the Voice Overs in the audio options. Or maybe im thinking of a different game.....idk for sure but you could maube look there.

tried the solution from m3talc0re, first it didnt let me join games, said that i had modified content and stuff, and when trying to replace the original file with the safe copy i made (safety first of course), the game just freezed on the 3 seconds of game, and after a couple of resets, it just frezeed at loading screen.... had to uninstall and re-install all over again, so ill say thats a no go for that one.

But it was a good idea.

That sucks. I would've just put an underscore in front of all their names, lol. EA or DICE or whomever should've given us an option to reduce the volume of those voice overs or disable them completely because they're bugging the s*** outta me...

yeah me too, im the kind of quiet wanna hear it all (except in voice messages)... maybe ill put them really low.. so i can be aware of them, but they wont drive me crazy, that would be a REALLY NICE add on for a patch... not to hard i think, just change the channel they are played from efects, to in voice messages, and add a bar on the audio setting screen.

Hey DICE guys, here is the voice of the gaming comunity, give us control over in-voice messages volume.... we dont want to become deaf from commander shouting like crazy.... please let us change the volume...

Do you guys think that would work? I mean i just saw a game in my life where the actual programers came to their official forum and actually listen to the people, that game was Titan Quest from Iron Works, those guys ROCK... forum support like you've never though it could be posible, they even gathered up all ideas from the forums and did an expansion with them.... unbelivable.

I dont mean DICEe guys are bad, they did this wonderfull game, just they should put more attention to users, where are some really good ideas, what the customer wants its not always the best i know im a programmer myself, but you have to take really good ideas like this one to the people that can make a difference with them, thats just my $0.02.

But in the BETA, you had options to do many things with the text, but i cant remember exactly what the options were, but these are pretty close.

for the kill messages you had 3 options:

- Show all Kills messages
- Show Kill messages of your sqaud only
- Show kill messages of only your kills

and for Global Chat you had 3 aswell:

- Show all global chat
- Show only vital global texts (things like i need a medic, supplies, but it got rid of enemy spotted and what not) < this may have been show no global chat at all. cant remember
- Show only player typed global messages


Now i ask.. Dice WHY THE F*CK did you get rid of this ??? it was awesome being able to turn off all global chat that you didnt need... it cleared up alot more space on the screen. can someone from Dice please tell me why you removed it :confused:

Really, I don't see the problem.

:D Me neither.

I don't even think you can turn them off without even disabling the whole game sound. Better off to just mute your speakers lol. But with 7.1 surround sound, that isn't very fun.

I was a programmer for years. This doesn't seem like a big deal to give us the options to maipulate the voices, text, and messages anyway we would want to...Wouldn't it be nice if the voices changed often ?? Maybe mix some soothing female voices in with it, like on the first Mech Warrior game ? I haven't played that in ages so I don't know if the later versions still have that.. Anyway, I am real tired of the same old British and Russian voices...

Would be nice to turn off background explosions in the game, but keeping any sound within 50m radius on. When on 64 player servers there's a lot of explosions going all over the place (or worse having a very talkative squad who'll spend all their time talking about everything, but objectives), and it prevents hearing the hiss of grenades and cloaked Recons. It also chokes the I/O with all those sounds playing at once, which can and does cause the soundcard to "burp".

Realism isn't a wall of explosions and yells, realism is to actually hear what's in your vicinity, like real ears hear it.
