View Full Version : Stop blasting early titan gun repairing engineers!

ok just a thought that popped into my head.
you know on alot of pub servers the first thing 80% of gunship pilots do is to head over to the titan and destroy guns, while some brilliant engy will start repairing them? i've seen the engy getting TK'ed cos he was repairing the guns before. im not saying that repairing titan guns/destroying them when the titan guns are out of range of everything is fine, but it hurts the noob pilot's team more than the repairing engy's team.
2 main reasons:
1. Assuming that most people are sane and that only 1 engy is repairing the currently useless guns, both teams have the same number of people doing useless things (ie one person). However, the engy repairing the guns is just being useless to the team, while the gunship pilot is not only being that, he's locking up a precious asset (if used correctly in early game, gunships can stop FAV silo rushes and slow the opposing team's progress greatly).
2. You'd only get points for the first 8 guns destroyed. Thus by destroying the guns in earlygame, the pointwhoring pilot will most probably not be interested in doing that again later in the game, when the titan is moved to a more strategic position and the guns are actually hitting stuff (assuming the commander moves the titan forwards of course).
so i say, let the earlygame pointwhoring engys get their engy excellence bronze, for they are doing the team good indirectly =D
or do such dimwitted gunship pilots only exists where i live? (ie halfway across the world form the US)

well people have other things in mind like badges and ribbons etc so they will go for it .. each has his own way

You eventually stop getting points

Only, if no one is in the seats. If there is someone in them, like the Commander, it's repair point city if the pilot is looking for 2 destructor pins, and just want to cause havoc.
The real issue is TKing Commanders. On FF=ON servers I make sure to ruin their precious time by kniving them 5x in a row if they kill Enginners on deck (I get team kills, but he won't get the time/points needed for his badge, either). So TKing Commanders, word up, don't kill team mates as it'll cost you, too.

Wow... I've never encountered this before. o.O Maybe it's because I don't hang around the Titan very often. I've also rarely seen TKing commanders, since they can't make the points back. And if they are on a good team, each TK is potentially worth 6 lost points... o.O Completely not worth it.

The enemy gunship killing guns is the only at disadvantage there.
He could rack more points killing enemy gunship followed by air transports heading to non capped silos then destroy the guns after that.
More points for the pilot and better for the team.
In fact, the repairing engineer is doing a favor: distracting the gunship until it gets pod killed ;)

Encountered it twice. Poor commanders must've wanted their badge or WCR so bad, but they paid a heavy price for that tactic.
TKing Commanders are the lowest life form, second to only Commanders who throw games so their friends on the enemy side can win.

How does this help them get their WCR? what badge would they be working for?

They want to win so bad, and believe by getting the gunners off the Titan early to cap, they will. That's why they TK (unless they want to simply throw a game). And the badge would be the Titan Commander gold -- where they need 4000 points and so greedy about it.
It's antics like that is why I play 90% of the time on FF=OFF servers.

If they keep TKing, they are never going to get their Titan commander gold... Each TK is 6 points for the commander on the winning team...
As for getting gunners off the Titan early, I really don't think many commanders care... o.O

Wha??
Where are you playing that this is a problem? Any commander is far more vulnerable to TK's than anyone else- I just don't see how this could vaguely be seen as helpful even to a badge-chaser...

This was some time ago (when Titans were actually moved), but one had the RUS clan tag, that's for sure.

I agree 100%. There is no good reason to kill people on your own team. There are other ways to deal with the problem. Use those.

the solution to commander TKers is simple for you commanders - get in your titan pods and stay there to command. absolutely nothing can touch you there, besides the missiles from the silos =D

...That also keeps team-mates from using the pods, however...

Better to stay alive and keep the team afloat (and upset the TK'ers) IMO.

I think if the commander was crippling his team by effectively disabling the pods, you might see a rare successful mutiny vote.

because the same people "cheating" in conquest never play titan
Save yourself some lag issues, and play more conquest.

There are only two pods. One on each side, it looks like 3 on each side but it's really only 1. I think the pods are seats f8 and f9 while 1-4 are for the ground blasting turrets and 5-6 are for the anti air. Just can't switch to the pods.
Ever notice how someone gets into a pod before you and you just sit there spamming the enter key wondering why nothing is happening until you ear the pod jet out?

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH that explains it.
and when some noob gets in during a hectic titan v titan round there's always 3 groups of people clustering round the 3 "different" pods. now i understand why they always seem to fill up simultaneously.
thanks!
