Well, as there is an awards guide already stickied, why not have an unlocks guide? I will add more to it as I unlock more. Feel free to add, and criticize. :)
Unlocks:
They can be the difference, between a win, or a loss. They have various functions - some cloaking your image, some showing the location of enemies. However, some of these are quite complex, and cannot be used right off the bat. This guide, will cover all these unlocks, and show the correct use of them.

1. RECON
1a. Sniper Tree:
1aa. APM Mines:
These little gifts of *BOOM* have caused great controversy amongst the various factions in 2142, both EU and PAC claiming that they are unfair. They are triggered by movement, and have quite a large detection length/radius, despite being nerfed. They can be detonated by the Zeller ASR and RDX explosives, and removed silently by the engineers Explosive Defuser. The best way to use them, is to place them around corners. The casual player (majority), will come charging around the corner, killing him and possible teammates. They can also be used to defend Titan vents, possibly blocking all access to the interior of the Titan, forcing the enemy to come in from the lower doors.
1ab. 4x Zoom:
Love sniping? You won't be able to go without this one. It made SUCH a difference in my sniping abilities - with a personal. record of 5+ Infiltrator Pins in one round. There is not much to say on effective use for this item - just right click (default) for the scope, and use the mouse wheel to actively zoom in and out. @bucketsofheadshots
1ac. Gruber 5 Stabiliser:
Not many people know how to use this one. While scoped, simply press the SHIFT (default) and voi-la! No more rifle shake. Again, not much to say on this one. Use it only when you have a soldier in sight. Don't wait too long to fire - it will overheat. Also, even if the bar isn't full and you let go, you will not be able to use it until it fully cools down.
1aU. Zeller Advanced Sniper Rifle:
I must say, I have not unlocked this one yet. However, I have field upgraded it enough to know how it works. Remember the M95 from BF2? This is it, but with nicer looks. VERY powerful. Soldier wearing light-armor and already lost only 2 hit points? One shot to the body, kills. VERY small scope, with red tint. Most people think that small means bad - think again. Because its smaller, you can focus more on that direct hit to the head. The red tint, is very nice for snowy maps, and helps correct dull default color. However, this is more or less a bad thing on CQC desert maps. In the desert, while scoped, it provides a very intense red hue, 'obstructing' your view. Other small notes on it: It doesn't have absolute pinpoint accuracy. Its magazine is also quite small. These may make or break the unlock for you.
DS-22 Decoy:
Not unlocked yet. Watch this space for more info soon!
1b. Spec Ops Tree:
1ba. RDX:
APMs, only 1.5x the power, and player detonated. Refer to APM notes for placement. Like the common APM mine, other RDX packs may detonate it, as the Zeller does too. Likewise, it can also be removed silently by the engineers mine defusal unlock. The RDX pack is especially good at defending specific vents, by placing them in the drop point and detonating them whenever a soldier drops through. Beware though; placing them RIGHT underneath the drop point, allows people to defuse them before dropping through. Three packs will destroy a console, and two packs, will take out a tank, or a commanders asset.
1bb. NetBat Fade Delay:
...whenever an enemy soldier hits you, a small diamond pops up in your view, showing their location. The same goes for coming into contact of about...10 ft. This shows up on your teams HUDs too. Now, these diamonds last a short time. If you have unlocked this item, it will AUTOMATICALLY prolong the diamonds appearance. Quite handy.
1bc. IT-33 Active Camo:
Get ready for a WAVE of bias here...this little thing gave me my Gold Collectors Badge. First off, do NOT expect this to be an invisibility cloak from Harry Potter. If anything, it alerts the enemy to your presence. Your image (what other people see) is reduced by 90%, and there is a loud humming noise. Depending on your stance and speed, visibility is further reduced/increased. Even though you are already 'invisible' it is still a good idea to take into consideration your environments conditions. In other words, you will still have to try and blend in. Try NOT to hang around in front of a 3D object. Move along walls, and jump from cover to cover, keeping cloaked in transit, and recharging while under cover. Remember, you only have about 20 seconds of cloak, so don't dawdle. The Support player - is your worst enemy. Do NOT cloak OR decloak around them. If they have the Active Camo NetBat, you will show up on their HUD. Avoid them at all costs.
1bU. Lambert Carbine:
This thing is loved by many - why...I do not know. Its a pea-shooter. It SOUNDS like it has a high rate of fire - but its quite slow. And weak. Never. Ever. Use. Single. Shot. The Gruber stabiliser works with it too - but you probably don't need that. Do NOT use it as an assault weapon - treat it as a last resort type. You can fire at an enemy for 3+ seconds with it only for them to one shot kill you with the Voss/Baur. Overall, good unlock if you know how to use it. A good tactic, is to IT-33 Active Camo, behind enemy lines. Since the enemy is usually pressing forward in one direction (ESPECIALLY on Cerebere or Berlin) you will score many kills while they are not looking. Works especially well at range - while the enemy is still lining up their Voss/Baur, you make a few short bursts in their direction. Say thanks to KC-10 for the kill.
bNS. TL-S1C Camo:
Tried by field upgrade - very good. Apparently increases time by 7 seconds, but feels MUCH longer. Nothing else upgraded. Refer to notes on the IT-33 (1bc.) Camo.
2. ASSAULT
2c. Assault Tree
2ca. Herzog AR Shotgun
...This...thing...is...good! It is shunned by many, not realising how to use it to its full potential. There really is not much to say on the use of this thing - just point and click. No added recoil or deviation. It has a slightly faster ROF than the Clark, so keep on clicking! Quite powerful, however, will need about 2 shots to take out a soldier. Do NOT use as your main weapon. Use it when you need to reload your Voss/SCAR/Baur/Krylov. Quite handy in Titan hallways, as there really is no where to aim but straight ahead. Also, when capping a flag/silo alone, do not use a gun for defense - use the shotgun. If you hide in a small corner/nook, there is only one way for an enemy to approach you, so you will not need to aim.
2cb. NetBat Infantry ID
Refer to notes on NetBat Fade Delay (1bb.) for how this thing is used. However, instead of delaying the Fade of the target diamonds, Infantry ID displays what kit the enemy is using.
2cc. PK-74 AR Rockets
"Sh!t! That bastard just crouched behind those crates!"
Is this you? Just aim at the crate - and right click on it. Right clicking, will set it to airburst mode, exploding at set distance (the distance is automatically set when clicking on an object). Aim just above the crate and fire all three at the same time. They will explode over the crate flushing out/killing the soldier who hid behind it. As you may know, these things have two modes - airburst, and impact. The latter, is crap. You simply change from impact to airburst, by scoping (right click). Impact, is, as its name suggests, a rocket that explodes on impact. Just fire it without scoping. Airburst, is where the rocket explodes in the air at a set range. You can increase/decrease the range while scoped by scrolling in and out with the mouse wheel. VERY useful in Titan vents and corridors. HOWEVER - BEFORE YOU GO OFF AND START USING THEM. Take CAREFUL NOTE - you must be at least 20 METERS AWAY FROM THE TARGET FOR THE ROCKETS TO GO OFF. I advise you practice in single player to get the hang of these things.
