I have just put my sound card from my old computer into my new one.. its a Sound Blaster Audigy LS. I lost my original drivers CD so I just downloaded teh most recent ones off teh internet and put them on. I notice however that if I run the game with sound in the Hardware mode the Voice Overs (the preprogrammed ones not VOIP) do not play smoothly but instead stutter so to speak they go "ro- g--er--- t-hat." but if i restore the sound to software they function just fine. I cant quite figure it out. Some one told me taht my onboard stuff and my hardware are fighting over which will get the play the SDFX but i cannot find the way to disable teh onboard system which is called "SOUNDMAX Digital Audio" If anyone knows how to disable the onboard stuff fully or can tell me what the problem is I would greatly appreciate it. Its not a huge problem but it is rather annoying.

I've had a similar problem with the onboard audio (Creative 24 bit chip) on my MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum motherboard. I haven't been able to find a solution yet, so I've just been running in software mode, but any help would be appreciated.

I am starting to think taht perhaps the older generation of sound cards may finally be to far out of date to be usable in new games unfortunately. but who knows.. I wish EA would answer my emails ive sent them.

Same problem here SB Audigy 2 ZS and Soundstorm (Nforce 2). I don't want to disable my onboard sound either cause I use it for TS as well.

I was hoping that when my new mobo(Abit AN8) gets here I would not have the problem anymore but after reading Slaypiece's post I guess it's not going to fix anything.

To disable the onboard sound on nForce motherboards, go into BIOS (Press the Delete Key during POST)and then enter the "Integrated Peripherals" section look for AC97 Audio and disable that.

List of unsupported sound cards:

http://eatech.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/eatech.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=17694&p_created=1119397443&p_sid=4PruPGIh&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX 3Jvd19jbnQ9NjMmcF9wcm9kcz0zMTMxJnBfY2F0cz0wJnBfcHY 9MS4zMTMxOzIudTAmcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3Z XJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3NjZl9wbGF0Zm9ybT0xODImcF9wYWd lPTM*&p_li=&p_topview=1

Check to see if your card is on this list. If it is, then Hardware accelleration is fully unsupported on your motherboard. Get a sound card, or just be happy with software accelleration.

Refer to your motherboard manual to figure out how to get into bios and disable onboard devices. Most modern motherboards support this feature.

Leave it at software, you wont notice any difference.

thanks a lot. is there really not much difference? i've been hearing so much hype over the use of EAX for creative cards...

What is the difference between software and hardware mode??????

It just determines where the mixing will take place, you will still get your EAX features, there will be no change in sound quality and performance impact will not be noticeable.

This thread I just read says that actually there seems to be a big difference in performance...a 40 fps difference

Depending on your processor/FSB combination, you may see a big performance hit when you change to "software" rendering. However, you don't really have much of a choice if you are having sound related problems with an unsupported sound card.

You might consider buying a supported card though, since they are pretty cheap at newegg.

"software" sound rendering is analagous to "software" graphics rendering. It can be done, but it puts an additional burden on your processor and memory, while a hardware accellerated card has all of the sound codecs and sound "image" processing algorithms hard coded into a specialized processor on the sound card.

this game is mostly video card dependent... I have a P4 2.8ghz and when I went from hardware to software sound there was absolutely no loss in frame rate. Also the sounds exactly the same.

It does not take much cpu power at all for modern processors to render sound, if youhave Hyper threading its probably miniscule.

YEY, MORE UPGRADING, YEY. MORE MONEY TO SPEND ON STUPID PC PARTS.

Maybe I should just switch to the next gen consoles.

I wasn't aware that software rendering required you to spend money.

Has anyone found a way to enable hardware audio that doesn't involve buying a new card? I get the same audio-stutter.

sb live 24-bit

I´m doing the same, since all next gens will have high def, so I still can play on my desk if I want, come PS3 come!!!!

This card is on the unsupported list. You will get studdering unless you upgrade or use software rendering only. I know because I made the same mistake.

There is a huge difference in sound between hardware and software rendering.

SB Live 24 bit and Audigy LS are two cards that can not do hardware rendering because they do not have an EMU10k1 processor (EMU10k2 on the Audigy 1 and up). So now, there is no work around to be able to enable hardware sound on either of those cards.

I bought the Audigy 4 last night and it does hardware rendering on high settings and has a remote. The guy with the Audigy 2ZS can run hardware rendering also if he disables onboard sound. You can't have it all buddy. :p

From personal experience with my old Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 the drivers were the problem. When I made the sound card do all the work I noticed a decent gain in performance, of course that was due to my 2ghz P4:laugh:

That and the fact that the original SB Live 4.1/5.1/Value all have the EMU10k1 chip on them. ;)

While the Audigy LS does not support hardware rendering it still works fine in game. I have one and it works ok, I ordered a card that does support hardware render because I am curious about the EAX effects.

MOBO: Onboard audio can usually be disabled in the BIOS, if you dont disable it and you have an additional soundcard you are likely to have problems.

You're gonna love EAX. Sound is MUCH more directional. Cool stuff.

I have the "voice-over-stuttering" with a Medusa 5.1 USB Headset. Surround sound works just fine in ALL other games, except Battlefield.
In another forum i read that replacing the 8kHz ogg-voiceovefiles with 22kHz Files fixes the voiceover stuttering, but then Punkbuster kicks cause of modified game content :(
All ambient sounds are in perfect surround, just the damn voiceover sounds stutter :(
Any news on this problem/bug?

I hate to wake a year-old thread, but I'm having the same problem. =( I bought an Audigy SE last night, and promptly returned it when it didn't solve my problem.
