Right as you know I now have the full version :) It's a bit odd that im using my own forums for help, but after 2 days of cursing I need expert advice! Basically my crappy rig can be found in my sig!

The demo ran fine, so you would have thought the same for the full version.

Anyway, the game installs fine. When i double click the bf2.exe icon on my desktop, a windowed bf2 image pops up for a few seconds, then just closes and a windows error message pops up. "BF2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

The error signature:
AppName: bf2.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: ~df394b.tmp
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000c486b

What I have tried so far:
Turning off VPU Recover
Reinstalling
Reinstalling in safe mode and running in safe mode
Rolling back to 5.1 and 5.5 drivers + a set of beta drivers
Closing all the background processes

Any ideas from those that know this stuff?

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, your my only hope :)

You cleared out the registry settings from the demo? Maybe they have some conflicting parts? Would give it a try if I were you.

Cheers

Go to your sound settings in the control panel and turn down the hardware acceleration.

Also run ur spyware/antivirus.

Make sure that all your other drivers are up to date.

If u have dual cd drives try using the other drive.

Hope this helps....

Rico remember that BF2 final is build #2442. While the demo is build #2446.12. It's possible that there will be a patch when the game ships.

ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 000c486b

Only thing I could suggest at this point, remove Battlefield 2 completely from the registry and make sure the demo settings have been removed as well. Double check that the folder that's created in "My Documents" has been removed and under Program Files and under your user account settings. There may also be some settings left under Application Data. Then try installing from scratch again.

I would use Registry Workshop or an alternate, the one supplied by Windows doesn't really cut the job looking for files.

Hey Rico I've got a similar rig to you, FX57 7800GTX 2 GB RAM, and mine won't even install. I just get the mesage set.tmp has encounterd a problem whjenever I double clock the setup.exe. It won't do anything from the splash screen either.
I've tried everything from deleting the demo files in the registry, to reinstalling windows installer. I've got 2 DVD drives and it don't work in either.
It's the only bit of software that I own that refuses point blank to install. I've got no viruses or registry problems.
Its not a faulty disc as I tried it in a friends ancient P3 lap top and it installed fine.

I guess we are just cursed.

I insist it has something to do with Alcohol 120%, DVD region, or DVD shrink, cause I was playing BF2 fine yesterday then I installed all the above programs. I went to play BF2 today and got the same issue you as you I did a system restore back to yesterday before the programs and game ran fine.
