This has worked for 1 mate I know from my old clan, and im only posting it here for the truly desperate ppl who have run out of ideas to try. It may or may not fix your issue, but since it worked for 1 person I know, it may help others. I apolgise if this if already posted in another thread, but I have to get to work, and dont have time to read all 1 billion topics this morning !
Note this change changes the way your computer accesses your hard drives, and technically it will slow them down a little, but I dont think its that noticable. As always, making changes can have side effects, so understand what you are changing.
BF2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
right click 'my computer' properties, > hardware tab > device manager button > expand ide ata/atapi controllers, select primary IDE channel , right click properties > advanced settings, for device 0, set the transfer mode to PIO
Note : It may be necessary to force all devices to PIO mode, or just the drive BF2 is installed to. ie Primary IDE or secondary,

Heres an article describing what PIO vs DMA Mode is. Suggest you read it, so you understand what changes you are making to your Systems
