Okay, so since the demo, I've been trying to figure out how to edit the minimap like I could in BF42. I've got the nVidia dds plugin for photoshop and saved it just so. File sizes are the exact same as the default minimaps, but I don't know how to get them to go in BF2.

In BF42, I'd use WinRFA to repack and make a map_000.rfa and put it alongside the mapfile in my levels directory. Obviously I can't do this in BF2 as rfa files are no more.

Has anyone found a solution?

I'm wanting to edit in flag numbers as well as cardinal directions for each flag. It works better for clan/group communications.

well welcome to the forums i see this is your first post.
okay for the record you have to replace the minimap so go to client.zip on your level them go to hud/minimap/open it up them edit it save it when winrar ask to add the files click yes and you are done. but if you do this you are not going to be able to play on ranked servers you have to make a backup of the original .zip

not exactly true...I've setup a small dedicated server on my HTPC and it sees it as "altered content" or something to that effect and would not let me join. This server would be identical to a non-ranked server, I would assume.
When opening client.zip with winrar, the ingameMap.dds file is 131,200bytes unpacked and 111,459 bytes packed. Now, when you add the ingameMap.dds file with winrar using 'normal' compression, it compresses down to 104,xxx bytes. It does not help much using 'fastest' compression...still under 105,xxx bytes. In order to run the edited minimap, it must also be installed on the server.zip file so that the ingameMap.dds file on both client and server would be identical. I appologize for not specifying this earlier.

I think going away from the "matching the exact file size" idea and see if anyone can figure out the patching system.

They must have some way, and cant expect you to redownlod the objects/standardmesh/sound (so basically the whole game) etc if they ever add content update or something.

Me and Fark have been working on the patching system - still no luck as yet.

If we get the patching system figured out - we'll post it in this thread.

I can hook you up with a script I made for this, email ryan@blackaqua.com

Please note this will only work with custom maps. I use it for the tournament i'm in using the 21CW mod.
