Just a small update :D

Version 2.7 Changes


Vehicles

- Adjusted Recoil on MBTs

- Added Selectable Fire mode on MBTs 7.62mm Coaxial MG, first Automatic/5 rounds burst

- Adjust the speed/acceleration of FAAVs and Transports

- Added Selectable Fire mode on APCs, now you can fire Automatic/Burst (Press with 1 or 3 to change)

- Added 9M119M Refleks-M AT-GM to T-90 [8 AT-GMs] (Press Cycle Weapon key)

- Added 9M119M Refleks-M AT-GM to Type-98G [5 AT-GMs] (Press Cycle Weapon key)

- Added XM1028 120mm Canister Anti-Infantry munition to the M1A2SEP [10 shells] (Press Cycle Weapon Key)

- MBTs 120mm/125mm Cannon is now Alternate Fire key

- MBTs 7.62mm Coaxial MG is now Primary Fire key

- Change M829A3 APDSFS-T munition count to 30

- LAV-25 now has 420 25mm HEI-T and 210 25mm APDSFS-T rounds (Press Cycle Weapon key to change ammo types)

- WZ-551 now has 300 25mm HEI-T and 100 25mm APDSFS-T rounds (Press Cycle Weapon key to change ammo types)

- 25mm/30mm HEI-T rounds are very effective against Infantry, but ineffective against APCs/AAVs/MBTs


Stationary/handheld Weapons

- Reduce velocity on the 40mm Grenade launchers

- Added second zoom factor to AK-74U and M4A1 Carbine

- Type 88 Sniper rifle clip size reduced to 10 rounds and magazines increased to 6

- Shotguns are now accurate up to 30 metres

- Increased Accuracy on all Specops Rifles

- Redid recoil again

- Reduced AI detectionion range on all Handheld guns

- Reduced 9mm Parabellum and 00 buckshots damage to Body Armour

- Type 85 rate of fire reduced to 600

- Magazine count increased to 10, increased recoil, increased accuracy


Kits

- Modify Kit sprint dissapation rate due to weight of carried gear

- Added C4 to all Engineers and Specops

- Swapped Standard Pistols with silenced variant

- Gave the MEC engineer an AK-101 instead of AK-47

- Swapped the CH-AT AK-101 with Type 85 7.62mm SMG

- Removed M67 Grenades from all specops classes

Mate, can you play this on the new patch? Has it an installer? Is someone willing to put in up a decent running server?

Sounds nice, but I like to see it in multiplayer. Great work though, something I had in mind, but still waiting on the tools to be released.

Very nice Djuice, going to try it out in SP now.

Sorta off topic, but I really hope they make the level system like 1942 where the level files only overwrote the originals, you never needed your own set of levels. My BF2 folder is already 4.79GB :(

It may work for Deticated Server also but havent tried. But my friends play Co-op with the mods with no prob

okay i generated my own levels.md5 and std_archives.md5 files, so this should allow it to run on a dedicated server more successfully/easier.

On another note, you guys got any suggestions that i can do to make my mod more realistic?

Also any bugs to report would be kool too :D

To make it more realistic.
Make the commander screen to zoom in more.
Like u zoom in so u can see the people, and than press + to zoom in more to see the enemy more. and - to zoom out.
In real life they do it all the time.
And make all the guns rate of fire wright/realistic.
Make the accuracity better when u lay on the ground and be steady. like in counter strike,t aht the bullet goes staight when u crouch and shoot once or twice.
Add some realistic sounds to the guns.
U know, u should team up with the Desert Combat Realism mod. They have done a really great job in DC.
they added new sounds, new vehicles, new fun maps, and realistic stuff.

Yes, to make to make it more realistic:

ERASE the COMMANDER, he spoils the game. It's a useless asset, no sattelitre in the world can do what is done in this game. As a sniper/spec ops there is no way to go stealth. Or at least for these two groups make them invisible. Got me curious now.

Mods can anyone make a sticky outta this one. Seems the author has put the most effort into his mod of all things released. Gonna give it a spin also. Yoyu made an installer, yet?

MD5, is that the rar check, if so, can you enlighten me abit on it, or is it pb related?

i would want to change those but i dunno which files are used by the commander.

For example i dont even know what files to edit for the satellite scan and UAV, as i cant seem to locate anything related to them except the RAdar station, and remoteaccess files for them, and they all dont have any information on the operation of those said systems.

I unlocked the M95, but in your mod there is no way to select it, all the unlockables are still locked. Playing with the patch 1.02 . Have a look at it. I think for sp it should include the 32/64 maps and the bots.

There is no unlockable items in SP for some strange reason, Blame EA/DICE for not implementing unlockable weapon in SP. This is ofcourse if you patched the game.

Currently there are people making 32/64 maps for single player but without an AI editor there is soo much you can do with a notepad.

The 32 map was working on the demo, think it's here also on the forum. Tried to replace the m24 via the sniper.con , didnt work either. No M95, no use to play the mod.

if you are so desperate to use the M95 Barrett, open the file objects_realism, go to kits, choose team and then select the sniper.con file, edit the line ObjectTemplate.addTemplate USRIF_M24

and replace it with ObjectTemplate.addTemplate ussni_m95_barret, save the file and then load the game either with a shortcut or my batch file.

Added MD5s files into the mods folder

- Changed the MBT main cannon fire back to default fire keys

- Bullets now do extra damage to Thighs and Shoulders compare to lower arm and lower legs sections

Hey Dejuice, I like your mod a lot but can you tell me how to edit the number of bots (rather than the tickets). I folowed your instructions in the readme but I must have messed something up because it didn't work.

hey Djuice, i tried setting it up with my clan on a dedicate, but it keeps on whining about unmodified files.....

any idea's? i got a 10MBit 24/7 testserver if u want.

if you want some ideas on ur mod i have plenty, i like it i got 320 points in a bot match, lol, anyways the guns need to be returned to the right kits but you can put teh medic gun as engineer also would be nice take away c4 from all the otehr classes besides special ops, no double zoom on special ops guns, when shooting th m24 make it un scope to show reload anitmation, fix the recoil there is none, its way to easy to kill people, the heavy machine guns are unstoppable (saw) is deadly, and ummm thats about it... :D

Here's some suggestions:

- DC helo physics (or at least make them faster and more manouverable)

- Get rid of magic engineer support on supply crates, puts much more emphasis on engineer class (nice m16 btw).

- Lower the Mine throwing distance (unless they're actually the same weight as frisbees in real life :P)

- Consider claymore throwing aswell, because realisticly you couldn't throw something that far and always have it land standing upright.

- Longer sprint distance.

- Radar for planes, if possible.

- Give us more reason to pick assault, perhaps increase the body armour?

I'll probably think of more later.

ill take them all into consideration, i already gave the Assault more (12) 40mm grenades to make them more playable, i dont know how to modify supply crates or its reload time at the moment, and once i do find how i will definitely change them. Ill try and change the Helo physics/movements in my next release :p

The M249 SAW in real life actually has very lil recoil, gave the Engineer C4s, coz they can blow up bridges and other building, ive already lowered the amount of AT mines that engineers and AT classes can carry.

I gave removed the HK G3A3 from the US medic class and gave it an MP5A3 instead due to weight constraints (Dont think a medic can carry 100 pounds of gear and still able to to perform miracles) Ill display M24 bolt action scene after each shot =P

That's how it should be whilst prone, makes support a worthy class. When Standing/Walking it shouldn't be near as accurate, but still deadly close range.

the guns need to be returned to the right kits

I like how the engineer kit has a better gun, however it probably should swap with the medic's for balance reasons.
For example, on USMC Medic's have M16's and Engineers have G3's instead of the other way round. BF2 needs Engineers, not more and more medics.

I agree with everything else Monkey Smith said, though i'd be careful when tweaking the sniper rifle, you don't want it to be as useless as BF2's.

Actually the USMC doesnt use the G3A3, tho middle eastern army's do. Thats why i removed it, and replaced it with a less heavier weapon like the MP5A3, tho maybe i should give it an M16A2 as they are standard issued.

And if you don't know what else to give engineers then perhaps hand them a shotgun with more range?

i was also thinking of removing all primary firearms for the AT classes, what you guys think? Basically make them Anti-Vehicle specialist only, unless against infantry as they only have a pistol as their only range weapon.

I scanned your initial list of features to this mod, sorry if you already mentioned it and I didn't see it. Is it possible to give an MBT both Sabot and HEAT rounds? Giving the main gun alternative ways of taking out different targets would be cool (kinetic versus chemical). And is there a way of making the appropraite tanks have a large plume of exhaust when they start/rev up?

With the penetration properties of materials in this game, is it possible to punch a tungsten dart through a building wall? Maybe we need to wait a vew more game generations before we can turn buildings into rubble :D But other than that I'd have to agree that the blast reactive armour on some tanks just take the fun out of shaped charges and other things that go bang. Still it would be cool to have different damage properties between kinetic and chemical. Chemical could have a larger blast outside the vehicle and cause more fragmentation damage whereas a kinetic dart would get right into an armoured target to mash it up from the inside.

buy the way guys its HEAP rounds, but give most of the us teh standard m16 i say if you want realism, and the spec ops give him his silncer back and same for other teams, take away teh l85 thing for teh chinese spec ops, and give the medic the ak back. and give the mec teh ak101, for teh standard and keep a sub machine gn for tehanti tanks, would be nice.

This mod on a dedicated server would be played more than vanilla BF2 :)

Just a suggestion or 2.
I used these in the BF2ee mod to good affect...

Plz Slow down the TV guided missiles on the choppers.

Weapons/Armament/missiles/agm114_hellfire_tv/agm114_hellfire_tv.tweak
ObjectTemplate.acceleration 300
ObjectTemplate.maxSpeed 125

Gives the gunner more time to guide the missile due to slightly slower max speed.
Helps heaps when bots are flying.

Also the stinger has a range of 6 miles or 10km.
This isn't reflected in the seeking abilities..see below for modified ones.
Stingers were also designed to have a kill ratio of at least 66% for a head on, incomming aspect target (jet aircraft).
i have trippled the distance for lockon (still not anywhere near 6 miles), made the lockon cone smaller and made the relock time from 60 to 45.

i kinda removed the TV guided missiles on the helicopters in my current version, as FYI the 9M120 ATAKA-V on the MI-28N HAVOC is Laser Beam Rider SACLOS guided, not tv guided. This goes for the AGM-114K and HJ-8 on the AH-1Z and Z-10, so i totally removed the TV guided missiles, and used the Laser targeting system instead.

As for the Stinger and Igla their max effective range is around 5-6Kms, i might have to reduced the lock angle on them.

Which tank uses that kinda munitions?

I dont think all USMC infantry uses M16A2, The standard GI do,combat medic aswell, dont this there is an engineer in a fire team, so ill stick him with his default shotgun :P And i dont think ATs soldier carry a smg, or a rifle for that matter, they usually pretty far from combat. And usually more then 2 in a group.


Anyways anyone with anymore ideas i would gratefully like to hear them :p

expalin what other gun does teh us infantry man use? HEAP rounds are used in tanks to take out soft targets with ease in POE they had them they are HIGH EXPOLSIVE ARMOR PIERCING like you said yes the abrams uses it, the have a much greater explosion then the sabot and do littel to armored vehichles, the sabot round shouldnt bearly havea explosion not a big one though.

What i meant was GI/medic uses the M16A2, Combat engineers might use SMG/Carbine type weapon, AT soldiers would be arm with sidearm (pistol) as they are like usually 500+ metres away. Specops would use wither M4 or FN scar, support would use the SAW and Snipers either M107/M24/M14

i agree im saying that the core of the us military is the m16a2 rifle most men are equiped with one, i think engineer should get teh standard m16 withou the m203 and the anti tank like u said is fine, and special ops should get a silenced pistol and the m4 i wish teh m4 was silenced...

F-35B 20mm Cannon rate of Fire increased to 1500rpm

The F-35B is suppose to have one external 25-mm GAU-12 gun pod (no internal gun). This would mean that the F-35B in game gun is suppose to be more powerful than the F/A-18C.

Not sure if this means anything to this mod but since we are talking about a Realism mod then it may matter.

While reading about the GAU-12 Cannon I found this which may be of interest:
The Equalizer is also used in the ACU-130U 'Spooky' gunship (where one cannon is mounted on the port side) and the US Marine Corps LAV AD air-defense vehicle. Other applications have been planned for the GAU-12/U, including a mounting for the AH-1 Cobra helicopter.
An AH-1 Cobra with this gun would be a better match against the Havoc's gun.

Yup. So far Dedicated server stuff has me confused. So I hope Djuice you either figure it out or get some more help to figure it out. I know the mod Jetpowered got theirs to work fine. So you might want to ask the guys what they did to get it to work. This is a fun/rocking/most awesome of all time/1337 mod and it shouldnt wasted on Single Player.

buy the way guys its HEAP rounds, but give most of the us teh standard m16 i say if you want realism, and the spec ops give him his silncer back and same for other teams, take away teh l85 thing for teh chinese spec ops, and give the medic the ak back. and give the mec teh ak101, for teh standard and keep a sub machine gn for tehanti tanks, would be nice.

High-Explosive Anti-Tank, High-Explosive Armour Piercing, does the same thing ;) Things that go boom; its all fun and games.


Djuice, nice to see you've made those missiles SACLOS, I'm thinking its going to be too easy to just guide a missile in. More realisitic to keep line-of-sight and employ the popular beam-rider technology of today. These cannot be jammed the way fully active missiles can.

Should have edited my previous post, but I just want to pop a quick idea in here.... is it possible to have permanent blood stains that remain on the ground after a player respawns? Just a small patch to indicate where players have fallen, that doesn't fade until the end of the round.

I downloaded this mod, only to find out that when I started an SP game, I couldn't move my mouse cursor or use my keyboard in the game. I had to alt tab and exit out. I deleted the folder to uninstall, and now when I play BF2 Sp the same thing happens where my cursor is still and the keyboard won't work, but other things are happening (the tutorer talks fine)

Wow, how is it me? I was playing perfectly with my mouse before this. I uninstalled it successfully, but now when I throw mines on the regular game I crash. Anything? You didn't read my post because it happened only after I installed this. Mouse drivers would have no effect on my mouse not working if it was working before I downloaded the mod.

i noticed that sometimes it randomly decides to delete your controls, in your profiles, you need to redefine your keys again.

its a bug that im looking into at the moment, doesnt happen all that often, but sometimes it does.

OMG everytime I run the levels bf2.realism.bat file it just flashes the black installation thingy and then stops. I know that a windows antispyware program keeps blocking it because i installed it a first time, and it worked just fine. And then I had to unistall it for other reasons, But now it wont work. So I uninstalled the antispayware program and its still does the flashy thingy...Can anyone help me?

If you installed it correctly, ie: copied over the levels, into the levels folder. You can add this +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +modPath mods/bf2_realism to your BF2 shortcut, it should work the same as the bf2_realism.bat file.

I get into the level folder, and I double click on the copylevels.bat file and it doesnt do anything. Its just flashes the thing that copies the levels, but it doesnt fully run it. The first time I installed it, it brought up a windows antispyware thing and it asked if I wanted to allow it and it worked, but now its not asking that even though I unistalled the spyware thing. I dont get it.

well i had a go at it last night, basically copied the jetpowered mod server files and modified the paths etc for BF2 realism.
Copied over the objects realism and server realism files to the server and kicked it off no worries using the "+modPath mods/bf2_realism +loadLevel Strike_at_Karkand" swithes at the end to the dedicated server shortcut.
The server ran and loaded 100%.
On the client side when i activated the MOD i could see the server listed.
it'd load up the map and when the Join button appeared it crashed..

Took MD5 files out..put MD5 files in..still crashed

changed client files changed server files copied maps over..still crashed...

Just thought i'd post this cause it might help someone out :|

unzip the file into the mod folder, then copy the maps from the level folder in the original bf2 into the level folder of the mod and then hit the bat file from the mod loading the mod for the client...did you use the bat file or loading over the normal game?

okay, i set up the mod v2[1].7 and played in SP on Karkland for about 30 minutes. I exited to see if i could find a multyplayer server and found this thread.

I just joined this IP 80.190.230.102, finished loading, showed the join game button, i pressed escape, and bam CTD. I used the .bat file to copy the maps but i loaded the mod by starting Vanilla BF2 and then loading Realism Mod from community page.

????????????????????????

the mod rocks and i want some MP ownage!!!!

okay, i got on the server and all is good. well i was the only one there but besides that its all good.

HOWEVER...For Sp is there a way to change the number of bots that spawn. My pc cant handle the 31 bots. I get under 10fps on all Low settings, no AA/AF. my cpu is struggling here!

would i just edit an INI file or what?

I am at work so this is a basic what to do:
A. search the forums cause this has been posted a million times.
B. Still no luck goto the BF2\Mods\BF2_Realism\AI folder and open the AIdefault file with notepad, look for the line that ends in 31 and change it to 24.
Save and reboot BF2. play BF2_Realism with 24 bots.

I play with 64 bots on a amd 64, 3gig rig with 1 gig ram and an ATI 9500pro.
Going from 512meg ram to 1 gig ram made a massive difference in game play for me.
Some ppl recommend 2gig ram.

Also go back to the ATI 5.1 cats for your 9700.
Shaders actually work properly and you wont crash at random intervals (like with 5.5, 5.6 and 5.7 cats).

Okay i played this yesterday in multiplayer and it was very fun... But you should increase the damage of F-18's machinegun coz it's nothing compared to the F-15. I raped everyone with the F-15 and were good on dogfights but i couldn't do it with the F-18 coz the machinegun was underpowered and it didn't do as much damage. Otherwise very fun mod and sniping was far more enjoyable than in BF2 :) Keep up the good work!

Djuice...i have the new version on the server and exactly the same new version on my PC and i get an error, modified content....

i have really no idea about the reason....installed it now 3 times using this time the level.bat to have everything identically and it does not function!

I know that i have been playing yesterday with the 2.6 version and it has been working!

Will restore this version 2.6 again trying out if that one is working for me...if yes i will tell you

you are right!

for MP gaming you must cut the levels.md5 game out of the mods main folder placing it anywhere for backup! Only then you are able to join the server, tried it out and mod is working for MP ONLY without that levels.md5


for Singleplayer place this file again into the same main folder of BF2_Realism 2.8

the 2.6 mod has been working with the dedicated server already, you just have to copy the maplist.con from the ded. server into settings....i`ve posted that a couple of times


the 2.8 mod is working if you delete the levels.md5


i think most players cannot join because of the wrong installation or they have forgotten to copy the levels into the mod...for that an installer is a good job, because not everybody is a PC Freak (has nothing to do being lazy)

Wow, this mod is awesome. I just played it for three hours or more, in a row. I haven't played that much BF2 in weeks! The game feels so much more alive, like it's a real war happening. The immersion and feel of the game has just improved so much. Thank you :) . Naturally the mod isn't finished and you might know of these issues all ready, but I figured I could tell of some issues I ran into (in no particular order):

Sometimes when I get hit (don't know if it's by bullets, granade fire, shells or something else entirely) I keep taking damage in the same way you do when you leave the combat area... almost as if I'm burning. Is this a game feature? I'm sorry, I haven't looked through exactly all the features you're implementing (yet). It's kind of annoying as you eventually die. So what's the point? Your death is innevitable it just takes another 10 seconds.

The sniper weapon seems a bit too powerful. I'm talking about the automatic ones. I once got 7 kills in a row in 4 seconds, no joke. I've always been good at sniping so it might just be that, that I'm a bit better than the average soldier, OR it could be that it's overpowered. It really was too easy to get kills though. Add more sway to the automatic sniper-rifles or make the shots more spaced out so that you can't fire it as quickly as, say, a pistol. The USMC rifle is much more balanced.

What's with all the classes having C4? And you gave the Special Operatives claymore mines? Somehow you've managed to make the SO both useless and overpowered. They're useless in the sense that you can be any class while taking out artillery/UAV/etc, making the Special Operatives... less "special". They are also overpowerd because they now have antipersonell mines. One things that the SO should have are smoke granades. It just fits with the whole infiltration and stealth part of the SO.

How come button number 4 isn't used for anything? It just selects the weapon you're currently using. I guess this is just a bug, but I thought you should know about it.

The pistols make too little damage in my opinion. Are you supposed to have to shoot about 8 bullets into the chest/neck/head area before they die?

This has been said, but the claymore mines and the anti-tank mines can be thrown much too far.

There were a few more issues with the mod, but all in all it was a great experience. Thank you once again and I hope I could help. If you need anybody for beta-testing you can always ask me. Now, I'll play the game some more :D

(BTW, have you sent this to planetbattlefield.com? Or maybe you're waiting for the multiplayer fix.)

the 2.6 mod has been working with the dedicated server already, you just have to copy the maplist.con from the ded. server into settings....i`ve posted that a couple of times


the 2.8 mod is working if you delete the levels.md5


i think most players cannot join because of the wrong installation or they have forgotten to copy the levels into the mod...for that an installer is a good job, because not everybody is a PC Freak (has nothing to do being lazy)

Which is why Djuice provided a detailed Readme on the installation. I have also created an installer which installs the mod.

It was not the levels.md5 file. It was the AI Original.con within the Kit's causing the problems which i modified, besides some other's, so that it will not crash. Otherwise with these files in tact both the client and dedicated server it will either crash with no error or state that your client is not allowed to play with modified content.

its back to the original game actually because not everybody has been able to join and i really did not find that reason...might be a problem with W2K...but if...why all can join server hosting the original...so i am waiting for a dedicated server version that has been tested...have been loading the game now 100 times in 3 days...thats way too much boring now... :laugh:

I just logged on it woks, man is this mod sweeeeeeet. well one thing you could look at is on the G36c when zoomed in a fireing the muzzle flash comes out right infront of the sites instead of infront of the muzzle.

I will have to try the b version now, but what I'm presently looking at is taking the working shader cache folder and copying it to the Realism mod folder. It's all you need to do, but you will need to load bf2_realism first for the game to create the directory. Then you can exit and copy the shaders over. :)

The Realism mod is only a physics pack. The only time you need a mod to render the shaders is when you change your settings or new materials are introduced.

Not to be a stickler, and I don't even think its possible yet cause I haven't seen anyone making new weapons this far into modding, but you're regular infantry grunt in the Marines (in Iraq) carries an M16A4. Basically M16, scoped, with that broom stick foregrip stickin down. 2 of my bestfriends have been to Iraq and back, both Infantry, both Marines.


Engineers carry the standard M16. My third friend we've sent over there is a USMC Engineer.



That's my only input. lol. When modding gets that advanced, I hope to god someone gives the Spec Ops or someone the A4, it's so badass looking in real life.

Just wanted to say this mod absolutely friggin rocks! This is the way BF2 should have been all along. SP with this mod is more fun than MP w/o it. It just breathed new life into my SP game. I can't wait for some solid MP servers with the mod running.

I do like this mod very much. When I first started BF2 (original) I was really angry. I like MachineGuns and the way LMG was done in the game was.... not right. It was easier to shot an enemy with a pistol from a distance of 100-200 meters, than with short MG bursts, and that's ********. Single mg shot can be compared to rifle shot, it's almost the same. This mod solved the problem, it also solved the problem with sniper rifles (Yeah, I like single-shot kills (I don't know why, but i dont see reload animation after each shot (m24) if i'm using the scope, i heard it was fixed in 2.8b, but it's not (And i heard that double zoom on sniper rifle was fixed to a single zoom, but it doesnt work for me too))).

Now... what's bad (imho).

I really dont like that The Kits were changed.
Why do engineer or assault should have some c4 in the kit? SpecOps is the class to destroy buildings, bridges... That's the idea. Medic must heal, Sniper must kill.
I think ALL the classes except AT (decrease ammo for the launcher) should be left intact because the ballance between the classes in the original game was almost perfect(imho).
Next. (Sorry, i just want the game to be as good as possible)
I didn't really understand and liked all those things with ammo types in tanks and "AA". What's the difference between them? Where do i know what type is currently loaded. I noticed too many bugs concerning this issue:
1. After i shoot, i can imidiatelly change ammo type and shoot again, that ain't right. The loading of both ammo types is going on at the same time so if You wait for 5-10 second You'll have both ammo types loaded and You'll get the possibility to fire twice.
2. When I use "F" key (cycle weapons key) to change my ammo type it's ok. When I press "1" - it changes to the first ammo type (MG to 5 burst). When I Press "2" - it changes to the second ammo type (MG to 5 burst). If I press "2" again, MG changes to full auto (cycles between 5burst and fullauto). If I press "1" multiple times, MG doesnt cycle, it remains at 5burst. So the only mode to cycle through MG firing modes is by pressing "2".
3. Pressing "1" or "2" cycles through ammo types but there is no images for those ammo types, so there appear just white rectangles in place of weapon images.
4. There is no indicator to show the MG firing mode. I can't see if it's 5 burst or full auto.
Why do we need special firing modes? We need some firing modes to reduce recoil and get better control of the weapon. But why do we need firing modes on vehicles. All the mg on vehicles are mounted. The recoil is reduced to minimum.
So... I propose to remove vehicle MG firing modes and different ammo types.
Yes, it sounds bad. Yes, I understand that it was allready done, author spent not a single day coding it (Thanks again for a good mod), but it complicates the game.

Some other mini changes i would like to see:
1. Reduce a bit sniper rifle accuracy.
2. Increace a bit heli's and tank's armor.
3. Reduce AT launcher ammo (to 2-3).
4. SpecOps c4 deploys in a "full-auto" mode (press and hold left mouse button to throw all the c4 explosives You have). Needs a fix.

So. The conclusion is:
I would be very glad if:
1. All the classes would be left intact (no weapon/gadget changing...).
2. "Mini-Changes" listed above would be made.
3. Vehicles MG Firing Mode removed.
4. Vehicle Ammo Type removed.

Of course some would say that that's not that realistic, but wait... i think we wont get a "real-life" simulator adding ammo types for tanks. Not everything that can be changed must be changed. Why then there is no ammo types for rifles, handguns? Different mine types (there are hundreds of them)? Why we cant lean left-right? Use air-bombing support? How can an engineer repair a tank (or a bridge) with a wrench? How can a human body resist 9-12 defibrillator "healings". There are hundreds and thousand of little things that stop the game to become "the most realistic one".

With true respect to the authot of the mod.

hey djuice, do you take our suggestions into consideration or would you rather we just shut up? :P because i'm sure we could all post hundreds of suggestion of things to add or to remove, but if you don't really take them into consideration why bother, right? so just tell us if we're getting on your nerves ;) .

there are a few things i suggest you alter. for one the sniper rifle and the support class are overpowered. one is the most accurate the other the most powerful. why choose any other class? you need to change the mod so that people will have reasons to choose classes other than the sniper or the support. for example, make the support class really slow (carrying a machinegun must weigh a lot) and the sniper rifle less powerful or the player much more vulnerable (less body armor, less shots to kill, maybe more damage from falling from slight heights?). also, make all weapons A LOT less accurate when standing as opposed to prone position. as much as i enjoy the added precision and power of the BF2 weapons, it's a tad too much.

apparently the body armor the american soldiers in iraq use can resist several rifle rounds to the chest without being hurt (just bruised). in the realism mod a couple of bullets to the chest will kill a soldiers, so maybe this damage should be toned down a bit. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interceptor_body_armor)

another thing i think should be changed is the fact that only one anti-tank rocket is required to destroy most vehicles. give the AT one or two rockets, no more, and make them slower.

one thing i'd like to see added is a game mode where each soldier only has about four lives (or more, or less). this would make the game more realistic in the sense that players would value their lives more and thus behave more realistically, laying prone more often, etc.

and how about night maps?

In fact i think if people want to make a realism mod then they need look no further than the game 'Americas Army' for most of the things to change like how easily you die, bullet drop, breathing when aiming etc

First of all, nice mod. I've been enjoying the different flavor. Now, onto some input...

There is no unlockable items in SP for some strange reason, Blame EA/DICE for not implementing unlockable weapon in SP. This is of course if you patched the game.

Actually, yes you can use unlockables in Single Player. If this hasn't been addressed already, I'll explain how to use the alternate weapons in Single Player for those who don't know how.

To enable the use of the alternate weapon kits in Single Player (only), open python/bf2/stats/unlock.py in a text editor (such as WordPad). Find the line which looks like this:

defaultUnlocks = [0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0]

And change it to look like this:

defaultUnlocks = [1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1]

Not hard at all, eh? Now...

if you are so desperate to use the M95 Barrett, open the file objects_realism, go to kits, choose team and then select the sniper.con file, edit the line ObjectTemplate.addTemplate USRIF_M24

and replace it with ObjectTemplate.addTemplate ussni_m95_barret, save the file and then load the game either with a shortcut or my batch file.

I've got a question (and I'm surprised it hasn't come up yet). Whenever I alter something inside the x:\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2_realism\Objects_realism.zip, the game crashes when loading a level to play. There has to be more involved than what you stated, because I crash upon loading a map whenever I change stuff, and I don't crash when I re-overwrite the newly changed .zip with your original again.

I've been wanting to tinker with the weapon loadouts, but it crashes when any changes are made. What needs to be done to make the personal preferences usable?

Note: I only intend to play Single Player with the changes, so (why) is it checking versions?

To further elaborate, I want to use the default weapon loadout (like regular BF2), but I want to add some small adjustments here and there - Give more classes smoke grenades, remove the C4 capabilities from anyone BUT SpecOps, etc etc. Little things like that.

Is there a limit to how much equipment a soldier can have?

Slot 1: Knife
Slot 2: Pistol
Slot 3: Rifle
Slot 4: Grenades/ M203/ AT Rocket
Slot 5: Class-specific (AT-Mine/ Claymore/ C4/ Medkit/ Ammokit/ Smoke Grenade)
Slot 6: Class-specific (Defibrillator/ Wrench)
Slot 7: <Additional item of choice??>

I know how & where to change the .con files, and you stated how to change weapon loadouts in the above quote. But it crashes when I load a map if it's anything but your original Objects_realism.zip. I know it's this, because it (obviously) doesn't crash when I replace my edited (and crashariffic version) with your original Objects_realism.zip.

Suggestions? Thanks ahead of time, and good job on the mod. I dig it so far =P

Also, anyone know any links for some modding tutorials (along the lines of this mod)? Nothing too heavy, just some Textpad tweaks for sake of experimentation. I'm interested in doing some little things with this (already made) mod for my own personal use, like mentioned above.

Ah, true. Didn't think of that. I've been on 56k for the last month or so between a change in residence, so I hadn't bothered to patch up BF2 (lol56klol). So it's the BF2 version change, eh? Looks like I'll have to patch up @ my buddy's house :O

EDIT: BF2 version hasn't seemed to affect Djuice's mod, only when I attempt to alter his files o_O Why would the BF2 version affect my own changes, but not Djuice's mod?

Ok, I am just wondering why from 2.8-3.0 the Spec Ops got neutered?

I like the new sounds, but one thing that has been bothering me is that the Bots seem to have super aim in single player. Tanks shooting down moving choppers from the otherside of the map with an unguided weapon is a little much. I have even seen the shoots hook left or right and that seems a little unrealistic. Also bot attack chopper pilots seem to never miss when shooting at a tank with rockets.

Also, can the Bots be made to use the secondary weapon in the #2 seat in the Cobra? All they ever use is the gun.

i don't like 3.0. i don't know if you made the weapons so realistic that it seems unrealistic or what you did, because i can shoot at a guy 6 times (given, it's from a large distance) without killing him. this while lying prone and completely still. i don't know if this inaccuracy or lack of power of the rifles is realistic or whether you've gone and made the mod a bit unrealistic again.

I love this mod.. except.. As an epilectic, and victim of parkinsons.. My aiming is bad enought.. I really need those cross hairs. Is their away to get them back for single player?
And please dont laugh or go at me about the noob or pwnd leet speek... It could happen to you.. :(

Hi, its not so easy, you have to edit every weapons-tweakfile.

for the M16:
Objects_realism.zip -> \Weapons\Handheld\usrif_m16a2\usrif_m16a2.tweak

change line 15

ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.guiIndex 0

to

ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.guiIndex 4

How do you "activate" it? Don't waste your time with the game's useless "mod activation" feature. You are supposed to run it with the bf2_realism.bat file provided (or make a new shortcut with the same command-line that's in the batch file). And you may want to look at the Project Reality mini-mod (PRMM) that Djuice joined when he stopped working on this one.

Do you have objects_realism.zip in mods\bf2_realism? Did you run the bf2_realism_setup.bat in the levels folder?

It's part of the mod. When you unzip the downloaded file into your battlefield 2\mods folder it will create bf2_realism. objects_realism.zip should be one of the files in that folder.
