View Full Version : Mod to replace BFHQ/ranking with a local server DB?

The clan I am in already has our own free servers and broadband that rocks. (People working at companies with broadband that are employee-gamer friendly)

We are not too interested in shelling out the $3k+/year to set up a ranked server when it will buy us very little.

We would like to setup our own BF2 stats server that has the global ranking functionality on a local level. We would like to be able to rank, unlock weapons and record badges for our servers only. We don't care that the stats are not recorded/certified by EA, we all play on our own server anyway, so it makes no difference to us if EA thinks we are cool or not.

Is anyone already working on a mod to do this?

Thanks!

Interesting Idea.

wouldn't be too hard either. They've given all the stat recording python files already. would just be a matter of piping them out of the system there in any manner you deem fit (save to file on HDD, turn the game server into a simple HTTP server with python, or email/connect over the intarwebz) and transfer it to a homegrown metaserver instead of the main stat server.

stat tracking is easy. though getting the client to view it all through BFHQ may be another matter.

I don't think it'd matter much if you couldn't see the stuff in BFHQ. Just have your own website that tracks the stats like www.bf2s.com does...
