I emailed him, nice guy, to ask where the **** the editor was. His reply:

The editor will be out as soon as we resolve a few issues that are
preventing us from releasing it. All I can say is "soon".

I haven't looked at the M82A1 because A: I've been working trying to get
you the editor, and B: it's not actually a supported weapon. I will look
at it at some point, since I am also curious to see if I can get it
working, but until the editor is out and I have released the basic
tutorials on how to use it, it's a rather low priority.

Sorry I can't be of more help right now.

I pushed him abit too much over the M82A1, neglect that part.

Overall, a willing chap with a working spirit, seems they still have problems, though.

Can you tell me what the problems are with the M82A1? We're all a bit busy over here, but I can at least try to have one of my guys take a look at it.

Yes, I am curious as well. I never play as a Sniper because I don't like the Sniping dynamics in BF2. So I don't have much experience or solid input on it, I just know I don't like it much.
So what is it about the Barrett that is wrong??
Please, enlighten us.

It's in the mod section. Me and Rexman got it working but the scope is still too small and a small bug when you move while scoped, looking while scoped goes perfect. Anyhow, we need the editor to fix it.

Oh, and Gridlock, since you're here, I don't know if you know that brackets in a server name cause it not to be listed properly, ping listings are all wrong, and I'm not sure how to search for a term inside a server name like I could in 1.0 or 1.01

I did not know... I'll pass this on to our server guru.
Thanks.

Regarding CLIXBY's concern about server names with brackets
Are there any additional details you can give us? we've tried creating new servers with brackets in the names and have been able to see them listed correctly... additionally placing a bracket in the server name filter appears to return servers with brackets as expected - and we are unable to identify any problems with the reported ping.

The Battlefield 2 Internet Browser now includes various options to Filter particular servers to your needs.

A Brief Overview of the Internet Server Filter system:

Update Server List:

This button will re-query the Master Server List to obtain a new list of servers.

Refresh:

Much like the Update button, this will re-query the Master Server List. However, it will NOT add servers to the list. It will only update the existing list of servers that you have already in your Browser

Stop Update

This button will cancel the query to the Master Server list, leaving the user with a partial list.

Server Name:

The User can enter all or part of the Server Name to isolate a particular server(s). To use this function, the User enters part or all of the Server Name, then presses ENTER. The Browser will then Update the Server list and the User can sort the Server List by:

Alphabetical Server Name

Ping

Players

Map Name

Game Mode

To remove the Server Name Filter, mouse click in the Server Name Filter box and use BackSpace to erase the Name, then press Enter again to Update the Server List.

Ping:

The user can enter a target Ping of the servers they wish to play on. To use this function, the User enters a target ping in the Ping Filter box, then presses ENTER. The Browser will then query the Master Server list and return a list of server that match the target Ping and BELOW. The Browser will then Update the Server list and the User can sort the Server List by:

Alphabetical Server Name

Ping

Players

Map Name

Game Mode

To remove the Ping filter, mouse click in the Ping Filter box and use BackSpace to erase the Name, then press Enter again to Update the Server List.

NOTE: The Ping in the list may change without notice based on the amount of time the Server List is left unattended in the Browser and depending on the players joining or leaving the Server.

Players:

The User can enter a target Player number of the server they wish to play on. To use this function, the User enters a Target number of Players, then presses ENTER. The Filter will enter a list of Servers that match that number and above. This filter takes into account Players joining the server as well. The Browser will then Update the Server list and the User can sort the Server List by:

Alphabetical Server Name

Ping

Players

Map Name

Game Mode

To remove the Player filter, mouse click in the Player Filter box and use BackSpace to erase the Name, then press Enter again to Update the Server List.

NOTE: The Players in the list may change without notice based on the amount of time the Server List is left unattended in the Browser and depending on the players joining or leaving the Server.

Map Name:

This Filter will isolate the specific Map Names. The User can enter either part of the Map Name or all of the Map Name. However, if the User wants to use a full Map Name that includes a “space” in the name, you will have to use the underscore character.

Example:

Strike at Karkand would become Strike_at_Karkand.

Only Servers running that particular map will be displayed, and then cam be sorted by:

Alphabetical Server Name

Ping

Players

Map Name

Game Mode

To remove the Map Name filter, mouse click in the Map Name Filter box and use BackSpace to erase the Name, then press Enter again to Update the Server List.

NOTE: If the Server is on a Map Rotation, and the Browser is left unattended, the Map Name displayed may vary.

Okay, my clan's server is [MO] Recruiting Server. It doesn't come up if you put that in. It does come up if you put in _[MO] Recruiting Server.

In my browser, I cannot search for parts of a server name unless it is from the beginning, like:

"MO Recruiting Server" gets me nothing, but "_[M" would return some results with my server in it.

Plus, when I organize by ping, I get about 12 zero pings, about ten 140 pings, five or so 230 pings, then a few 500 pings, then 1000 pings. Usually I get 50-90 on most servers that are listed as 140 pings, but occassionally I see one hosted in Spain or something, and I know I would have a high ping in it. Having to guess what my ping is defeats the purpose of listing the pings. The ping might be affected by the 2 minute "Updating Server List" lag.

maby this will clarify a bit

i emailed L.Brown and got this responce

==================================

Actually, there should be an update on the community update section of
the EA site soon. It's gone into final testing and should be out in the
next few days.

Sorry about the wait, but we wanted to make sure it's all working
correctly before releasing it.

MOD Toolkit Update
As some of you have already discovered, rumors of the BF2 MOD Toolkit (editor) being released is starting to spread. Since we all know how rumors are, I thought it would be good to fill everyone in on what’s going on.

Yesterday we reached the point where we felt the editor was finally ready to be released, but in order to be sure we hadn’t missed anything, a final round of testing was in order.

We felt the best way to do this was by giving it to some of the actual mod teams so they could put it through its paces. The problem was that if we released it to all the mod teams, it would be a nightmare trying to organize all the data we would get back, so we decided on a very limited “Closed Beta” release.

This was done in order to get the editor to the public faster. If you’re on a mod team that didn’t get the beta, don't worry, you'll get it soon. The selection was intentionally kept very small so we could stay organized and focused. Barring a major issue being discovered, the editor is now mere days from being released. Not weeks, days!

I hope everyone can hang on just a little bit longer while we do our final tests. I’m looking forward to all the great work that’s going to be done and I want to get you started as soon as possible.

(-Lawrence Brown, -Battlefield Mod Support Coordinator)

That's it for this weeks update! I'm [EA]Mike signing off for the rest of the battlefield team

There was no point in doing this. If it is to be released in a few days then the testing should be over already.

Just sounds like mod favourtism IMO :\

It's called making sure a product is ready to be shipped. Everyone is crying out for the tools, so they'll release them as soon as they feel that they're done. This is to prevent people from coming back the day after a release having major problems and then complaining about them releasing too soon. It's life. Learn it, live it.

Nikko
07-22-2005, 01:26 AM
It's fine... It is what they needed to do to make sure it was a release-worthy product. I am glad they did what they did, and I hope that soon we all have the editor in good condition.

It is clear now that it is going to be released in just a couple of days... so I'd like to thank the ones responsible for creating the tools. Soon, we'll have a lot of quality mods!

Just curious as to why there is a 'game mode' option in the server browser when there is only one mode available in BF2 (we need CTF and objective....PLEASE!). The only reason I can think of is for modders.
It's kind of sad because DICE realizes that people want to play more than just conquest but aren't willing to include other modes.
