Ok first up, my name is Rahabib and I am a noob.

I have been searching for some info on how to change weapon values etc.

I know where the tweak files are but I dont know much about reading them. Is there a guide somewhere that explains it? or could someone help me learn how to read it?

I found a place to change scoring but nothing about how to change weapon values.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Mate, there is some info on the old battlefield games, but wait for the editor and the tutorials, because now no1 knows for certain.

Cheers

the tweak files are easy as pie, i'll include some stuff. first you've got to drag and drop the file to your desktop, and make it non-read only. Basically the lines you're looking for are.

ObjectTemplate.deviation.devModZoom
the lower this value, the more accuract your gun will be when aiming down the sight
rem -------------------------------------
ObjectTemplate.addTemplate S_chsni_type88_Projectile_Looping
rem -------------------------------------
ObjectTemplate.timeToLive CRD_NONE/1/0/0
ObjectTemplate.material 38
ObjectTemplate.hasOnTimeEffect 1
ObjectTemplate.minDamage 15
ObjectTemplate.damage 60

damage, the higher the more deadly, mindamage is the minimum damage done by the gun

ignore timetolive, material and ontime effect

Thanks frosty,

First off,

ObjectTemplate.deviation.setFireDev 3.5 2 0.5
ObjectTemplate.deviation.setTurnDev 0 0 0 0
ObjectTemplate.deviation.setSpeedDev 3 0.2 0.2 1
ObjectTemplate.deviation.setMiscDev 2.5 2.5 0.2

I know this has to do with deviation but what do the number represent specifically? In otherwords, what does the first number represent compared to the second or third etc.

I might be able to figure them out with trial and error but someone has to have found out what they mean.

Now, my biggest issue!!!

If I unpack the Client_server.zip and change anything (changing back any files I changed to "read only") then zip it back up, the game will crash trying to load where the movies are.

So, for my next attempt I went in and copied the bf2ee mod folder, tested it - it worked fine. Then changed something in the bf2ee_server.zip then tried it again, this time it would work but when I load the map and try to start a singleplayer game it would crash after a few seconds at the same spot every time (loading objects).

Now I am not sure what I am doing wrong. The only thing I changed was the M24 damage from 95 to 150. It would still crash if I changed the 150 back to 95. I am guessing I am doing something wrong in the uncompressing to recompressing the zip file.

thanks for your help thus far.

get winrar, that way you can drag and drop files and folders into already compressed archives and it will just zip back up automatically

No1 can explain the deviation tricks Dice used, if people know what all these codelines do and how they interact, they're lying. But hell, if someone knows, let them make 3 versions of a gun and explain what they did. Just wait for the editor.

OK I will do that. I was using the default XP zip. I hate using WinRAR because they charge for the full version. Do I need the full version for drag and drop archiving?

I know this might sound like a really noob question, but when I do have WinRAR do I just double click the zip file and find the one I want drag it to the desktop, make it writable, make the changes, then make it readable again, then just drag it back into the zip file to its origional location overwriting the existing one?

or do I have to unzip it and then zip it again?

Oh and CXZAR, thanks that did help a lot.

Thanks for your help everyone. Ill try it when I get home.

lol you can use winrar for more then 40 days, its just that stupid windows pops up every time you want to open a .rar or other associated files.

well, I just had one of those "well duh" moments. I would unzip the files but xp zip makes a folder with the same name as the zip. When you zip that folder it keeps the folder name basically adding a level in the zip. After thinking about it for a second I realized this and ziped the contents of the folder instead. Now it works.

Anyway. back to modding.

I changed the M24 to have perfect accuracy when lying down and zoomed but made it harder for everything else. However, what happens is that as long as I am zoomed in, it doesnt matter if I jump, run around, or whatever, its all perfect accuracy. Am I reading these numbers right?
