The best video editing ive seen. The only thing I didn't liek isn't ddirectly your fault. it appeared you were switching scenes with the music( i had volume low). Some of these scenes are swtiched around too quickly IMO. The eye barely has enough time to adjust.

thanks for the comments guys, I am very pleased with the vid, I think its been really popular because its nearly killed my website (used all my bandwidth, oops) , which is why I had to put it on filefront lol

anyone know how I can convert it to 16:9, I can't work out how to do it without just putting a 16:9 mask over it but that crops it too

Great video, really good video editing you did there!
But I agree ArmyOfOne that some scenes were too fast though... and some scenes could have been recorded with more FPS.
Nevertheless everything else in this video is very cool indeed!

What program do you usually use to encode videos? I can help you encoding 16:9, but there are so many possibilities to do it... tell me first what programs you use, then I'll now which approach will be the best to make a 16:9 encode.

I used Premiere to make the film, this was exported as a Microsoft DV AVI file, I then loaded this into Virtual Dub, set the bit rate and compressed the file down

MrBrown
07-24-2005, 02:25 PM
Yes, VirtualDub, that's perfect! :)

Open your DV-AVI in VirtualDub, select Video->Filtes, and make sure "Full processing mode" is enabled. Press the "add" button and select resize from the list. Then you can enter the size you wish for your video and the resizing method (I choose Bilinear for downsizing and precise bicubic for upsizing stuff). If you press OK you're back at the filters dialog. There you can control the cropping of the resize now if you wish.

I hope this was the function that you were looking for...

That was really awesome---this and Battlefield in Motion (the one with Fall Out Boy playing) are the two best BF2 videos out there.

I havent figured out how to get text over my movie in premier. Squirrel can you give me some pointers please:)

Sirrel Squirrel
08-02-2005, 11:00 AM
In the File menu, go to new, then new title, this will load a window for you to type your text in and play around with different styles, you can also make scrolling text, when you've made it in the File menu click Save title, you can then close the title window. The title (text) will now be added to your bin, simply drag and drop it onto the video track above the one containing your footage. You can change the length of time the text is displayed on screen, the same way you would edit the length of a video clip.

I've got a small guide on my website, that has some stuff about premiere on it including some pics showing the title stuff, its not very in depth but may help you out a little: http://www.mia-media.co.uk/tutorial_2.html

Thanks for the comments guys, I'm planning to make a new movie in the next couple of weeks, going to start planning it soon and come up with a few ideas, I'm going to try and create my output files using battle recorder rather than fraps but don't know how to do it, is there a guide anywhere and if I use it can I control the camera like I can if I use fraps to capture, like pausing playback, move the camera, capture from that angle, pause, change angle and repeat etc?

I think I would agree with the 6/10 score the poster above gave you. Your film is certainly produced to a higher standard than the majority of other BF2 films I've seen. It opens with a great deal of promise; the sunset over the water, followed by exhaust trails from the fighter jets is well done, but that is where my interest dropped (about 35 secs in) and i think your film felt more like a trailer. I lot of fighting took place, but no attempt to justify it was made and the ending seemed rather abrupt.

I hope I have not sounded too harsh because your film, or at least the first 30 seconds of it, is the highest quality filming of BF2 I've seen.

#edit# I downloaded your CS:S office film too!, enjoyed it much more than the battlefield2 one. Love the zooms down the corridors and the death moment where the guy flys forward onto his knees. Pity you clipped through the players a few times and the deep, slowed down voice at the end was a bit naff. 7.5/10

Twas good, much better than what I can do. I would suggest taht if you want to "sync" the vid to the music, made the music louder, I could'nt hear it very well.

Senap

I like the editing style as well, even though it is not my cup of tea.

Some shots were too short, unfortunately. I really like that you tried to sync to the music (I did this as well) but I'm afraid the action was hard to follow due to short and fast shots.

At one point an AA shoots for a second, the second later a plane has already been hit and crashes into the ground. We never saw the connection between the AA shooting and the plane getting at least one hit or a final hit. Unless this was an intentional "effect", I think the action and the "story" was too hard to follow.

I do like the fact that you made the movie 2 mins something instead of 5-10 minutes like other people do. Most people make extremely long shots with very little action or uninteresting camera angles which makes you skip whole minutes of the video. At least this one kept your interest so I salute you for that.

Also the movie is extremely choppy, is this a result of bad demo quality + fraps? Consider 'upping your demo quality a bit next time or use the built-in battlerecorder to render the video.

I sound very negative now, don't I .. Well to be honest I like the movie and it's very high quality, it was definetly worth the download. Keep up the good work! ^_^

Thanks for the info.. I haven't even had the chance to play MGS3 yet

I would suggest taht if you want to "sync" the vid to the music, made the music louder, I could'nt hear it very well.

Then something is wrong at your end, music volume is fine.

Thanks for the comments, a lot of useful info there to take into account for my next video. I'm going to try and use bf2 recorder to capture everything next time as Fraps does drop quite a few frames, although I didn't really notice this much when editing, only during playback but nothing I could do really without re-recording it.

Senap
08-04-2005, 12:19 PM
I think the solution to the choppyness is higher demo quality.
If you're going to try the battlerecorder, I suggest you use BattleLauncher [http://www.battlelauncher.com]. It helps a bit when working with demos and camera files as well as the BF2 AVI output.

What do you mean by higher demo quality, I recorded the stuff for this video with all settings on full and it runs nice and smooth until you hit record in fraps lol
