PS3 to have the Geforce 7800 GTX GPU

I read in my copy of Game Informer that playstation 3 will have the GeForce 7800 GPU. Im still a console guy myself so I think this is great news. Can't wait till it's out :D

I heard it was going to be based on the 7800GTX but it was going to be a step above it so nothing out for the pc could match it. The code name for it is the RSX.

This is one of the main reasons I hate console sub forums in a PC game-based forum. Nobody knows what the hell they're talking about and believe all of the rumors they hear.

1. The GPU in the Xbox 360 has already been confirmed to be the most powerful. It's based on ATi technology and is light years ahead of anything on the market.

2. The real spotlight of the PS3 is their "Cell" technology, but we already know how the PS2 turned out with its supposed to be "Toy-Story-like-graphics". ROFL! Short and sweet - Sony lies...A LOT!

3. Nintendo has been going down hill since the Nintendo 64 and it hasn't been looking good for them as of late either, especially with the Gamecube.

there's the basic GFX info for both systems (couldn't find the specs for the nintendo system, but i'm at work so didn't have all that much time) taken from xbox.com and playstation.com....so how from that info do you know the xbox360's new gfx unit is the most powerful?

have you extensivly tested all these systems? sat down and played the same game on both system and looked? i seriously doubt it

I bet the ATi/Nvidia cores will be similar. Its very rare that one company has tech that the other cannot match. Just look at all the cards today. At similar price ranges they are usually within 10-20% of performance or closer.

Besides, it comes down to the devs and how they utilise the hardware not just the hardware itself.

i agree as mainly the only tech that may seperate the two is SLI, but i doubt sony will put dual cards in there systems

as it is right now, sony's trying to find a few ways to lower the price of the system, as it stands right now i believe an article i read stated sony was actually set to actually lose cash off each system

but then again, who knows in the future maybe the ps4'll have Dual nvidia chips SLI'd or somethin lol or maybe they'll make it like the old voodoo5's with like 4 chips rofl or whatever it was, that was awhile ago

umm.. well the ps3 does not use a 7800 or sli 7800, in their press confrence they said it will be more powerful that that.... although they also said that all of those pretty "In-game" videos they showed were real and not pre-rendered, but then it has been proven that they were... so hmm... we'll see...

i like xbox360 more tho, like the whole PGR3 and the controller is just better, they took the only thing i liked about the ps2 controller and put it on the xbox one so 360 kicks ***!

forgot to say but another dif between NVIDIA and ATI is Shader Model 3.0, NVidia has full support for it, where as according to ATI they do not have any support at all for it currently on there GFX processors, which includes the custom GFX CPU in the new XBox360

well to be honest it comes down to the games really you can have the most powerful system but if ur games sux then ur gonna lose money. Gamecube supposedly has better graphics then ps2 but the games are horrible unless one ur 12 and under u love mario,the only exception is twin snakes and metroid and the new zelda thats coming(which is the only reason im getting a gc), xbox i think is supposed to be way more powerful then ps2 but they really have nothing special either its on computer or on ps2 and if its not those games tend to suck and the only ones that come to my mind that i really wish i had an xbox for is maybe doa extreme beach volleyball and halo2 but halo2 is probably gonna come out for pc like the first one did anyway and doa is not a game, that would make me get a whole new system for. So considering the line ups ps2 has and ps1 plus of course there power backwards compablity adn nice colors i probably will pick the ps3 up only. Like yeh revolution hugely backwards compatiable but i already have all the other systems and i could play them if i wanted to and i really don't because like the snes and nes are just too old games which i wouldn't like to play
