I would love to see a mod that recreates Battlefield 1942 vanilla and it's expansions. I don't mean a WW2 mod. Just one thats like BF1942. I doubt I'd go throught with it, unless alot are interested.

I'm sure Forgotten Hope 2 will give you a very similar experience. I wonder if they plan on making any maps to resemble any of the old BF1942 ones... We'll see I guess.

Yeah lets wait for FH or FL or something like that.
EA decided to call it illegal if the modders use old maps and/or models/skins/sounds/codes.

While I haven't had any experience with the tools I read that the BF2 editor will not be backwards compatible with BCV/BC42 in some interview.
People would need to do something like the El Alamein Grasslands map for BFV.
The maker opened up both height maps on two PCs and made a close copy. Since it wasn't exact it was perfectly legal.

oh yeah, and the El Alamein idea sounds great. El Alamein was one of my favorite maps

Desert Conflict is the remake of Desert Combat to BF2. Look around for it.
And the edit button exists for a purpose. :|:

Some of the old DC testers and mappers are back to try to create a Desert Combat-like experience for BF2 players. Some of the ideas that our staff has been throwing around are making me quite excited. I can't wait to share this stuff with you guys. It'll be a lot of fun! :)
By the way... how can you have over 40 posts in the TotalBF2 forums and not have noticed the Desert Conflict button down at the bottom of your screen? (in "Hosted mods")

As we understand it, we are not allowed to move any DICE created content from BF42/BFV to BF2. This includes maps.

How about just making a version of BG2 with BF1942 fun arcade physics?

Funny this, EA made a BF42 mod for BF Vietnam. Was not too bad. Didnt have all the maps...only thing I was guyyed about it was, it wasnt quite as easy to spot infantry on the ground in the aircraft in Wake due to the foilage, instead of the country club/ golf course look of bf1942 :D

I would love to see a BF1942 Merciless Creations mod for BF2. That would be freakin sick! What I loved most about BF1942 is the airplanes and tank battles. I know that some of the Merciless guys helped with FH, but I am not crazy about how the planes fly in FH. I also really enjoyed the M1Garand from vanilla BF. After that was released in a patch, I played Pacific maps almost exclusively!
Having vanilla BF on the BF2 engine would be really sweet! And adding the Merciless skins, blood, and sound effects would just make it like a neverending gobstopper. Mmmmm. sugar. Gotta go.

Hopefully BG2 will release sometime in the near future.

Where did you hear this? I don't believe this is true. It's not like we're taking something from Valve and putting it in a DICE game or vice versa. They have absolutely NO reason to say anything like this at all...

You weren't even allowed to take code from the expansions and put them in a mod for the main game (bayonet from RR, and jetpacks from SW come to mind).

No, you won't be able to use any BF42 (or Vietnam) content in BF2 for
two reasons: First, the file formats are completely different, and
second, DICE doesn't want it done. It would raise all sorts of copyright
issue. I don't believe anyone ever said you could use content from
another game in this game ... If you've made your own content, then yes, you are of course free to repurpose it for this new game but since any content you used in BF42 and Vietnam were "borrowed" by you, DICE is perfectly within their rights to refuse it to be allowed in the new game. This was the same when BF:Vietnam came out: you could use Vietnam content in your mod, but not BF42.
We'll do El Alamein, and we'll do it right. If you guys have played our Operation Citadel map on the BF42 engine, you know what we can do with large scale tank battles.

I read that, too. And we are working on a LV remake, means remodeling all buildings 1:1. If this isnt true all our work was for nothing. This wouldnt be nice..

We contacted EA regarding this issue. This comes straight from Lance Brown.

I do not understand how Dice is going to be able to stop somebody from reusing BF42 and BFV content in BF2.

I think ea doesnt want it. It doesnt depend on dice, ea is the boss :P
Whatever, it definately sucks.
