View Full Version : Sniper tip in Kubra Dam

IN Kubra dam there is a lot of cranes around the map
yes yes every one might be shouting at me saying that they all know how and why to go up there as sniperz
However the best way to utilise that crane is to get 3~4 sniperz and 1 medic up there so they can look and all direction.
If using Dragnov try staying at lower level of the crane so that no one spots you easily and runs away(as Drag is hard to use at moving enermy)
3-4 snipers and one medic? chuck a couple of grenades up there or launch an anti-tank rocket and bam, all dead. And what if a tank comes along? they would be defenceless against it.

hmmmmm how about staying up high above the ground so that tank cant shoot you and put few claymores on the ladder so no one can get up there

Not a terrible idea but not one i would put into practice. I go half and half between spec ops and sniper and when im a sniper I would much rather be alone . And as for cranes only idiot snipers and campers use the crane. I would say 3/4 of the time i hear a sniper i look up and there he is in a crane which i dont understand because its the most obvious place to look. Cranes also do not allow for support to teamates at every location, because regardless of skill im not getting hit by a sniper from 200 meters away while im moving.

There are one or two places on a crane it is worth sticking yourself which really cuts down on your danger level. Rather I would say its people who don't know what they're doing and place themselves so everything except their feet is hanging over the edge.
I tend to split between sniper and support and I can happily run out of ammo with the M24 and be forced to parachute off in the search for more before I die.
Besides on a map like Sharqi you can actually cover 4 flags from the crane which helps with defence.

So 5 people camping a position?
That's a huge waste of resources when you can just put one up there, and use the 4 others to cap/defend flags. Those 4 others could actually be doing something useful (Sniping is useful, but NOT when there's 4 other's doing it too.)
When I hear sniper shots, the crane is the first place I look, and there's always somebody there. Easy kill for me.

I often find that the crane on Sharqi is always empty. Which is good for me, because so many people dont bother thinking to look for the crane, as it is such an obvious spot, why would anybody bother sitting up there. Sort of the "hiding in plain view" theory I spose. And it works, i got 17-1, with a streak of 14 with the m24.

Gotta love the sniper mentality, take 5 or 6 usefull slots on a server and turn them into people who can't cap a flag. Please don't make a sniper squad. Kubra dam is filled with armor and attack heli's I would rather see an AT squad with a support guy on that map, then a squad of snipers laying around on the cranes.
See the thing is, no matter how many times you snipe me on a flag... I have the flag and all you are doing is working on your kill count, the tickets are bleeding for your team and you are losing... but you don't care, for everytime you kill one person, 5 of your tickets have bled away.

Yea and say you do get seen then you are screwed, if you stay on the ground or find better spots with escape locations then you are set.

Well, the idea sounds alright. I would think that it would be better for one sniper up there calling out movement for other snipers to move into position. It should be a squad member up there with the squad leader close enough to the action where he can request arty drops on convoys or large infantry groups moving

Yeah, yeah, all a team needs is a bunch of 5 people camping on the crane doing nothing (specially in that map where almost no1 goes on foot). Apart from that, and as a guy already said, cranes are the obvious place to look when ur being sniped so... not a good idea. *FLASHBACK*, i remember in desert combat the map lost village (or maibe barash edge, i always confuse them) where u had to go from one side of a lake to the other in a chopper and control the city. I also remember a small shelter on top of a cliff where A LOT of sniper used to go, and i always killed them all. I always wondered why do they keep going there?, it seemed to be a nice place for sniping but man, it was the place where everybody looked at if they would hear a sniper riffle shoot.

On Kubra Dam, a Sniper Squad Leader with a Support and Anti-Tank works pretty well.
Every time the Suport guy spawns on the Sniper, they spread out four ammo packs before parachuting into the action. The Anti-Tank guy can really have a field day against armor, provided he has Support refilling his ammo as well.
From the crane in the center, it is easy for the Sniper and Anti-Tank to soften up some flags for others to spawn and parachute down to an easier neutralize/capture.

The only times I've been up there was when I went Spec-Ops. I found the carbine to be rediculously accurate, so I could snipe from there without a sniper kit. It takes a few rounds to kill a guy though.
And if a tank comes a-rollin down the dam, I could toss a couple c4's and blow em up. Or maybe I was somewhere else when I did that. I can't remember.

Artillery works really nice vs snipers on cranes...usually the very first shell hits the sniper directly on the head. I always laugh out loud when that happens.

tanks can hit anywhere on the cranes. Just need to asjust angle of tank on ground, and then you can hit anything up there.
I've looked up at a crane, and saw something. Put my crosshairs over it, and saw a red tag. Waited for the perfect shot and used a cannon round on him.
Talk about learning to fly!!!!

Try about 3 or 4 ATs up there with a support. Much more effective if you know how to manuver the airborne ordinance. Get a squad leader up there and you're set unless you all die.

the sniper has a ghille suit for a reason...not to be "hiding" on a big crane, but to be down and dirty in the dirt and grass.

Ok, interesting, your first post ever here at TBF2 forums, you revive an almost 1 year old thread lol. Try not to revive threads more than a week old. Anyways, uh, you'd need a clan of snipers/medics to do that, i never see that much teamwork in BF2, and nobody likes camping, cuz people like action.

Nice idea, but being a Sniper is a one man per location job! If you get a group of snipers that are wreaking havoc in one spot, a commander will spot you for his armor and helos, or drop artillery on your a$$.
The best sniper grouping in Kubra might be to form a triangle with 3 snipers all cross firing at everything in the middle! (very effective)
I would suggest a sniper in the crane near supervisor base, and a sniper on the mountain behind the power station, and another in the crane near lower dam. VOIP would be a definite plus for this group. You would be able to take out most everything in the bowl that walked, and you would be in great postition to spot for your team too.
Good Luck!!

hahah its so easy to shoot people like you... i will NEVER go in a crane.. but there always are a few people who like 2 try ... there so easy targets...

Yes, alone. I can not stand it when someone like support guy or someother dude stays in my postion and gives my location away. Give me ammo and a medic bag, fine, but do not shoot from my postion. Run away to draw the enemy to you and not to me and it's game on:laugh:

Cranes are the worst locations - very obvious. Its like holding up a giant sign saying "Here I am." As soon as I spawn as sniper I always check the cranes.

that map is pretty big. I think this may be a waste of 2 or 3 snipers that could be elsewhere.

yes put 5 people in a crane that will help capture and defend flags.
Imagine if you had 6 or 7 people in the crane. Think how much defending you can do then! The enemy might just pack up and call it a day.

yea sure... put 1 "smart sniper" on the enemy team, if this isn't a complete retard he WONT enter a crane and will snipe them out 1 by 1... if you kill some1 in the crane they will fall down (99%) so they can't b revived

Seriously you're WAY off base.A good sniper won't waste time on a flag that isn't being or close to being attacked.A top sniper does the spotting for an attack force then picks off the most important targets.
The main problem in game is that too many players think that Sniper is a sure fire way to get good points with minor risks,so go for hillsides, roofs and cranes empty all ammo wastefully and are lucky to get 2-3 kills before getting capped themselves or running out of ammo. The good snipers out there (and believe me we do exist) wait in less obvious places spotting as many of the enemy in one place as possible while sniping medics and the quickly obvious SL's while the other classes go in for the captures. We also spend a lot of time capping enemy snipers doing exactly what you're suggesting.
Don't for one second think that snipers are a waste of slots. If you're lucky enough to find one that does know what he's doing and have time to analyze what he does throughout the round you'll see just how valuable we can be.
