View Full Version : Got my Commander Badge at last...and here's how!

OK first a little info you probably already knew before I tell you how I got the badge...

There are 2 Commander scores:

1) The first is your score during the map you're playing, it appears at the top of the commander map and on the player scoreboard. This score is a kind of average of your current sides scores minus any negative teamwork scores you get, (from teamkilling with artillery). You cannot get positive teamwork points, only negative as Commander.

2) The second is your score at the end of the round. This isn't the same figure as the first. I believe it is the score I mentioned above plus some other points which I think you are credited by getting artillery kills and maybe something else. This is not counting the x2 bonus you get for winning the round and this explains why some Commanders can get big scores without getting a badge.

To get the badge you need a score of 40 before the map is over. This is a score of 40 from example number 1 I gave above. The best way to get this amount is by going on the USMC on Mashtuur City. Why? Because the Blackhawk Whores get a shed load of points on this map making it pretty easy for the average team score to be high enough to get the badge. I suspect a 64 player server is the best for this.

Now this is interesting to know. I started Mashtuur City feeling confident that I would get the badge, that is until I felt brave enough to launch an artillery strike on the enemy and some lonewolf n00b, (with passengers), drove a HumVee straight into my fire and I got -14 teamwork points! *sigh*

Anyway, I carried on playing thinking that if I get 26 points or over then it would prove that it is possible to get the badge on this map as long as I don't get any teamkills. So I hit 26 points and guess what? It gave me the badge anyway! In other words I don't think that it matters that you get any minus points or teamkills, as long as you would have acumulated 40 points without the teamkills then you get it anyway!

Would anyone like to confirm this and maybe we could get a sticky?

Good hunting! :D

P.S. I think I'll post this on some other forums and see if it helps.

Thanks for posting this!! it really is helpfull as i never noticed that other score tbh in the ingame command screen. Now at least i know what i need to get to 40.

I've heard of that -14 and 26 glitch elsewhere so it probably is correct - they probably did score 1 - teamwork so 26 -- 14 :)

But how do you get points?
Someone mentioned that giving orders and having them carried out gets points.
Another person said responding to uav and arty requests.
Elsewhere i read every time a spotted person is killed you get points.
Arty kills don't seem to get me many points. - maybe i should spot them, then kill?

hmm. I think they made commander points a tad too complicated - or at least undocumented.

Another tip for this badge is make your squad request UAV by right clicking and telling them UAV is available. Otherwise scan and spot enemy troops(you get points for this) you dont need a UAV to make them see the enemy.

Same goes for arty and supplies tell them there available and make them request them if they want it they will ask.

This isnt how you be a good commander its how you get the badge. Kinda hard to be a good commander and get the badge with everyone running into arty strikes.

One thing to watch for is jerks in the game that request stupid arty strikes that land on you or your team. It happens believe me. Some people will ask for arty strikes and point to your own men for them to land on.

I got my commander badge the first time I played as comm (lucky I guess...). I just found a good concealed, covered spot that I could bury my head in the scanner (and keep an eye on my comm shack and artillery. The thing that helped me most was that I kept in mind what my troops would need most...

This is how I did it (whether it is the best way or not, heck it was my first and only time). But these are just the simple DUTIES of a commander. I dont know what advanced strategy there is yet.
*After giving the command to attack a certain point, give a UAV flyover and maybe an artillery strike unless it is needed elsewhere (unless they are very close to the objective, then do the strike first).
*Keep the map scanned, and point out incoming tanks, incoming helos, successful snipers.
*After a team takes a flag, send in an air drop. They are probably hurt, and need ammo.
*Dont send squads all the way across the map, unless it is necessary (like if the enemy is taking a key control point next to your airbase or something). Send them to the next objective, and they are more likely to accomplish it rather than getting sidetracked with a stray enemy.

Note that the Spotted command doesnt seem to work very accurately... It seems as though you need to zoom in very close to an enemy when spotting for it to show up in your troops' radar. Sometimes, I would be zoomed in, and click right on the enemy, but it still doesnt show...

Also, I didnt get a single artillery TK. This is because I let everyone know I was striking and where.... and that the big red artillery thingie on their radars will kill them if they run into it.... Some still dont know what that is. Anyways, just dont send in strikes on top of your squads unless they are covered by a building or out of the way.

There is only one way to get commander points, and thats the average score of your whole team. Nothing else gets you points
