Been using this for myself for a while, decided to make it a bit more functional and public. Enter in the exact name of your friends (capitalization important) and it'll show their game-monitor.com sigs. Simple interface, but an easy way to see which of your buddies are online, and where they are at.
No registration/etc needed. I'd suggest making your username something unique, because somebody else can access your buddy list and modify it as long as they know the username you use on the page (the BF2 buddy list username does not need to be your BF2 name, it can be anything.)
If you have some simple requests, post here and I'll consider it.

Heh, I agree. That's entirely why I made this -- So I do remember the occasional cool people.
Clan members could also use it to see who of their clan is online/where.

Cool utility, but I cant get it to work. When I add a buddy all I get is the big X. I know I am spelling and capitalizing everything right, I even added myself to test it and nothing. Is anybody else having the same problem?

Press F5/Refresh, the images are loading from www.game-monitor.com, so their servers might be temporarily down or something.
You can access your page through a link, something like:
http://www.xchain.org/bf2buddy.php?login=Meritt
Just replace 'Meritt' with whatever your login name for the page is.

Meh, can't see any real necessary reason to do that. As long as you keep your login name unique, nobody will jack with your list.

Yeah, I noticed that. I haven't seen any way through game-monitor.com to isolate to BF2 for the player sigs. Let me know if you see anything...

one word for you: firewall
some of us are behind company firewalls that xfire doesnt work with.
Meritt
08-02-2005, 01:17 PM
XFire is great for it's intended use. But when you're in a squad and you are running with some guy you thought was pretty solid, you might only remember his BF2 name. Or maybe he simply doesn't have X-Fire. Or maybe you didn't get a chance to ask his xfire ID and you'd like to ask him again.
This is what this is for. You can, simply, track people by their in-game ID. It's not supposed to be all fancy. It has one simple job, and that's all it is supposed to accomplish. If you want more features, then by all means, go use xfire. Both projects accomplish vastly different features.

Just use Xfire , you can track down anyone in anygame , plus u can join it or talk 2 him like a chat box . If u modefie the settings you will see your buddys in green when u look in the mini-map.

Simple and useful, very cool. Thanks for sharing.

Couldn't you just use xfire? Then again there are those that don't have it... Good idea.
Should of just registered all your friends/clan at bf2tracker.com, then you could have had a buddy list from week 1.
Weve been using it to track each other, also got a great server status facility, i can check whos on our server and check where all my clan mates are.

Meritt, you're a godsend! I've been looking for a way of tracking down my mates without either texting them or dropping the BF2 screen to ask them via chat software. Admittedly, I haven't had chance to test your software yet but if it works as it should, it will be just what I was after.
Thanks.

Amen to that..
the whole browser smells awful..
unresponsive..and very sensitive to accidental keystrokes or mouse clicks.
Ive found the wheel on my mouse, which I am used to using in other games
server browser will flat out lock my whole game.. sometimes even the whole
pc will lock up..
Besides that.. No FAVS LIST ?? These guys were out to lunch when this
code was written by the office cleaning crew or something.. A buddies
list would be nice, but a Fav Server List is a MUST in any online game.
get real, DICE.
I believe I saw a post where a Editor for EA said a buddies list was NOT in
the current includings for the next patch..but that a fav server list was.
figures.. those morons are only capable of doing 1 thing at a time..
We are all paying beta testers, me thinks.. the game will call itself
FULL RELEASE at about patch 1.75
very usefull..... good job

Does'nt ASE have a buddy list ?
ASE's Battlefield 2 player list retrieval is currently bugged...making it very difficult to track buddies in BF2.
I'm hoping they fix it soon though.
Xfire causes FPS drop for most people so I stopped using it. Plus, everybody you want to join up with has to run it..pain in the butt.
...if the author would add the bf2:// protocol scipt, this page would be perfect :D

xchain.org was down for about 3 hours yesterday due to the citywide power outage in LA. It's back up now. Sorry, completely out of my control :)
As far as the BF2 protocol, right now I can't do that without some processing of the game-monitor.com siglinks -- as those contain the actual IP/port of the servers. the BF2 Buddy List never actually gets any of that information, it's just pulling the compiled images directly from game-monitor.com
I'll see if it's possible, but no plans to implement it at this time. Sorry.

As my site simply compiles a list of game-monitor images, until their stuff gets fixed, buddy list will be broke as well.

Ok.... It needs the ability to access the game without entering the ip; like xfire for instance. It is cool, but not that great. I could just use bf2s.com if i really wanted to find out where someone is and have to type in the ip.
You need to make it possible to access the game and directly connect to your friend's server without righting down the ip.
LaserCobra
09-25-2005, 10:11 PM
I personally like it being so simple and clean. It's fast, it's easy, and it's free. I've got a nice list of IPs for my favorit servers because I had to write them down before joining. They have a little star next to them. =)

The entering-the-game thing is not going to happen. Sorry, this is a very simple web script. I have no way to even know what the data held in those images is, that's entirely coming from www.game-monitor.com. And I'm not going to do some image parsing to find out either :)
If you have a better solution for yourself, then by all means, use it. This is for a convenience for people who need it, that's all.

Click on the purple letters that say Lasercobra's Buddy List. Or something like that. It will expand your list. When I did it, none of my buddies were on, but maybe they just weren't. Can't be sure though. It used to expand them out automatically.
