Ok...so here's the deal. installed BF2 on my buddies comp. used a no-CD crack by replacing the original (i made sure he backed the original up though). found out that the no-CD crack is for v.1.00 only, and he had patched to v.1.02 and then found out that when he started the game it just went to a black screen and then after a minute or so, it went straight back to his desktop. I assumed this was because the crack was only compatible on v.1.00.

anyways, the point is, my friend (being the ******* and non-savvy computer user) tries to uninstall the game. but it won't let him because he has the cracked .exe file..so it brings up some error when he clicks uninstall and doesn't uninstall the game. so what does he do? he decides if he can't run the uninstall, he'll just Shift+Delete the whole Battlefield 2 folder in his Program Files.

I couldn't believe it when he told me... :eek: :mad: The problem is, that when (and I didn't expect it to work) I go to "uninstall" it says "Error: Cannot find some file....*blah blah*". Obviously, because all of the uninstall components are gone. I tried Installing it, thinking it could reload the files, but it only got into the install wizard and then goes to straight to the "Finish" button because something is still making it think the game is installed still. :(

So my simple question after a lot of thorough explanation: How can I get my BF2 files back on his comp? Or better yet, how can he install BF2 again?

Because by the looks of it, even if he bought the game, it wouldn't let him install it because it thinks the game is already there or something. He just wants to get BF2 v.1.00 so he can at least play singleplayer, but the game does not work one bit....PLEASE GUYS!!!! WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP HIM!??!? :confused: :(

Thank you in advance for any replies/suggestions anybody can give me!

Just empty the install directory and goto Start>Run and type in Regedit to access the registry. Go into HKEY_Local_Machine > Software and look for EA/DICE/BF2 keys and delete. Might be better using the search tool and deleting the game key. Dont go click happy and delete things which arnt BF2 related. Otherwise it can muck things up. Once cleared out the game should install again.

One thing.......please buy another copy of the game.

Technically, the proper key is: Battlefield 2

Open regedit and select edit then find (search) and type "Battlefield 2" without the quotes. If he does not own any other Battlefield games just type in Battlefield and it will query all the keys relating to Battlefield, then again just make sure the key has EA Games within it, you never know what software may contain the same name battlefield.

Once you find a key delete it and continue until there is no more Battlefield 2 (Battlefield) entries for EA Games.

Example keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\App Paths\BF2.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{F3CA370F-0B4B-4239-BF5A-2CC751EB5D3C}

Im actaully at work so unable to check which keys they are. It was just a rough idea.
