Okay, I bought this game about three weeks ago, and tried to play it on my 9200SE PCI card. That was a lost cause, but how do I upgrade to another PCI card? (Cant use AGP, Dells integrated graphics).

I decided it was time to upgrade, so I shelled out a ton of money to get the best future proof budget gaming system I could:

p4 3.0 Mhz prescott 800 FSB
1gb Corsair value select
Radeon X700 256 Mb PCI-express

The one thing I carried over from my old comp was the hard drive. I figured I could always get one later. After setting it all up, I was having trouble booting it from the hard drive (I dont think it recognized the IDE connector).

So I did an XP repair, thinking I could save the trouble of doing a whole restage. The computer is running, but very very slowly, and I am having graphics issues and sound is not working, programs are not opening... its a mess. I am in over my head here, and need some advice.

Should I just clear the HDD and start from scratch?
Should I run a driver cleaner?
Any other ideas?

Any help is appreciated!

I believe you need to reformat the drive first.

You'll be better off formating the hard drive.

Moving a hard drive (especially master ones) between MoBo's is very hard, u should get a new hard drive or back up ur current one onto other storage media and then format the drive and reinstall Windows.

I figured that I would need to do that so I went ahead and re formatted.

The speed problem is fixed, no trouble there, but the graphics stuttering problem remains.

It was actually fine until I installed the catalyst control center. I figured it might just be an outdated driver issue, so I updated catalyst to 5.7, still have the problem. Im pretty sure its related to catalyst....

When I first installed it I couldnt even read anything on the screen it was so bad. I switched the monitor frequency to 90hz and that made it readable, but by no means fixed.

Has anyone heard of this happening before?

Well here is your problem! ONLY 3Mhz, man you got RIPPED, lol jk just giving you crap.

Grab your importatnt documents off the drive, and reformat it. Hardware upgrades that replace just about everything usually require a re-format as Windows has issues with stuff like new CPUs and things.

Im getting a new mobo, PSU, GPU and CPU soon and I plan on re-formatting my HDD. (I know how to as well) But how will I. Do I put all my new hardware in my PC then start it up and re-format, or do I delete everything off of it before I install the new hardware and then format after the new stuff is installed?

if you didn't reformat and reinstall, that's your problem.

Ususally when the motherboard is changed, you will have to reinstall. I did that one time, i was planning on reinstalling anyway, but forgot to back up some files. Tried getting it to run, but nothing would work.

So i had to reinstall.

But yea, with a major upgrade like that, it's best to just reinstall and start over. Much cleaner, easier, better.
