I just finished commanding a pretty good game. Got my Commander Badge (40) and the Ribbon (50) in 1 round, so here's how it went!
*Notes:
1. You need to acheive the required score before the 2x multiplier
2. Your score is based on your team's average score
3. For the whiners: This is not a guide on how to be a good commander. This is a guide on how to GET YOUR AWARDS.

INFO
Map: Gulf of Oman (64)
Players: 17 (8 MEC vs 9 USMC)
Time Limit: 0
Starting Tickets: 300:300
Team: MEC

Final score: 104 (2x for teh win!)

GUIDE
First, it really helps if your team has squads. In a low player game, each squad will probably have 2 or less people in them. Give each squad orders, or you can hold CRTL and select all the squads, and give them all the same orders. As long as they accept and the orders are completed, you will receive points. Everytime an order is completed, give a new one.

Second, scan and spot everything you can. If your team kills anything that you've spotted, you receive points.

Third, when your team is approaching an enemy point, give them UAV support and spot everything you can, even if they can see already see it. Same concept, you'll receive points for each spotted enemy killed, and for the flag capture.

Also, I've read some guides where they say to hold back on Supplies. I didn't want to do this because as the Commander, I'm supposed to keep my team healthy and happy.

Last, do NOT use Artillery. You receive nothing positive for the use of Artillery, only negative for teamkills.

LOGIC
The whole idea is to gather as many points as you can, without screwing your team over. Let the enemy take over control points, so your team and take them back. If enough control points are cycled, then you should end with a good amount of points. However, make sure you support your team as they carry out your orders. Another thing to consider is the game length. The longer the round, the more points you get. This is another reason why you shouldn't use Artillery. For every death that occurs, a ticket is taken away, thus making the game end faster.

I've never seen a game where the entire team praised the Commander, and *****ed off the one guy who decided to mutiny, until now

SUMMARY
1. Find a quiet 64 player game with no time limit
2. Choose a map with a lot of Control Points
3. Give orders give orders give orders
4. Spot spot spot spot spot spot spot every enemy
5. Try to encourage control point cycling
6. Don't hold back on the team. Give them UAV and Supplies to help them capture points
7. Don't use Artillery. Don't want to risk the TK and end the game faster
8. Have fun! Talk with your team about tits or whatever you want :D

Thanks for reading guys, and have fun!

Very important^

However, the only thing I find that gives command points is your teammates getting points and raising their average score. I think you do get points for completing requests but everything else I'm not sure of. If it is true, it doesn't happen 100% of the time because I have seen holes where orders are completed but no point, etc

Edit: Artillery TKs do not count against your score for awards, I responded to an artil request and got a bunch of TKs from people who spawned on that leader, but when i had 40 points before -TKs I got the comand badge anyway. However, as all artillery does is deplete tickets thus depriving your team of points, why risk it?

Werd. Forgot to mention that another goal is to keep the game going as long as possible. Artillery = kills = less tickets = game ends faster

Simply enough :D

You played a 64 player map with 17 people?

No award is worth that kind of boredom.

the way comander gets points is by the AVERAGE of your team mates scores example. one player has 20 points and another has 10 points your score will be 15. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY COMANDER GETS POINTS.

I can't find ANY servers that are good for trying for the ribbon (50 points without 2x bonus). When I do find a low 10-20/64 player server there is hardly anyone in squads and even the ones in squads don't follow orders, it's a pain because I've been trying to get this and my closest score was 49! This one is tough.

Anyone know any servers with good teamplay that are good for this ribbon? Threadstarter what server did you get your ribbon on?

Sorry dude, I totally forgot which server I was on. I got lucky though to have some clan guys on my team, and some Helicopter whores :p

And yes, your score is based on your team's average score. Everything I posted encourages your team to get points, thus giving you points

For the ribbon, I found a 32 player server with only 16 peeps that was running large maps. I was on when Karkand was up, I was MEC. At first I didn't do anything, you need the US to take a flag to stop their ticket bleed for a longer game. Once they had a few footholds, then I started UAV/supply dropping everywhere. I gave orders only to attack and not defend. Game lasted about 36 Minutes, final score of 166 with the x2.

I did it on a 16 player server that had a 32 player Karkand map on. I got over 200 points after the bonus. I was using artillery but only when there were no team mates for ages and i only managed to get 2 tks. Make sure you keep using UAV because if people on your team kill the enemy in the UAV zone you get a point ;)

The fact that you played in a server running a 64 player map with only 17 players doesn't hold much water as any commander, wheter good or bad, can get over 50 points in the same conditions as long as he doesn't get TKs. 17 players in the 64 player map cannot hold nor capture the majority of flags to start making their opponent's tickets to bleed so they have to kill each other until one of them gets to 0 which results in a very long match where everyone has a very high score at the end of the round.

The problem with getting a lot of commander points is time, fair matches ends quickly before the player can rack up a lot of commander points. Playing in that condition you were in negates this problem so basically your tip should be:

Play in a server with a lot of tickets with only a few players in it.

Try to give your tutorial once you actually get 50 commander points when your in a 64 player map with over 50 players which makes the match a lot shorter, not 17 players which, again, lasts the match a lifetime which lets everyone in the server rack up a lot of points.

wtf are you talking about? you get COMMANDER POINTS everytime you give orders and they are carried out (just the squads saying 'roger that' doesn't mean orders are carried out and doesn't give you points), when your team uses supply drops, when you accept requests for art/UAV/supplies, etc. COMMANDER POINTS can be seen in the commander screen. at the end of the match, your team's average is added to the commander points to give you your total score. as mentioned before, ARTILLERY KILLS DO NOT GIVE YOU COMMANDER POINTS, IF YOU KILL TEAMMATES, POINTS ARE DEDUCTED FROM YOUR COMMANDER SCORE.

Oh that always **** me off.

and another thing, you say keep giving orders but when im commander and say "Attack this position" some gay Squad Leader just keep anwsering "Negative" or "No sir".

[EDIT] **** <-- nice, I never knew on this forum they hide words like pi*s

You were pretty lucky to have good squads and no smacktards like #2 said

I always use artillery as a commander, not to gain kills, but to scatter the enemy so my troops have a easier time picking them off to take control of a base. There is power in numbers, remember that ;)

4. Spot spot spot spot spot spot spot every enemy

For the love of god, please don't encourage this, it is such a nuisance, I will be sure to mutiny you if you blather on and on about every damn target on the map.

You see this game is best played when you can hear the enemies around you, when a commander is droning on and on about every little blip he see's it is very irritating.

Your efforts to get more points irritate people, talking about any part of the anatomy will not help either.

What would you do?

The enemy moderately to greatly outnumber the allies at a capture point? You put UAV and spotted enemies. Do you still artillery the capture point? I tell my team that im going to arty and they should see it on the map but some people still get mad about it if i kill them. Seems like a no win situation.

Don't spot ANYTHING, your entire team will get ****ed off at you constantly saying the annoying enemy spotted stuff over and over and start a mutiny.

Okay, you guys missed the point of this thread:

GETTING YOUR AWARDS

This isn't a guide on how to be a good commander, it's a guide on how to GET YOUR AWARDS. So lay off and go crap on someone else's thread.

there are allot of ways to get the badges... my way was to sit back and just watch squads on karkard and give them orders for what they were doing anyhow...

very easy for squads to accept an attack order for a flag they are attacking

Method #5,120

1. Join Pistols and Knives Only server.
2. Become Commander
3. Walk away and get some food.

Everyone's too busy to expect the commander to do anything. If you happen to be sitting around, just grab a book and occasionally UAV the area where everyone is. (Big mass of blue dots would be a decent hint).

The scores are usually in the 110-130 range, thus giving you plenty of points when the average comes around.

Make sure you join a Pistols and Knives server that's playing on a 32 player map, or preferably 64. Not only are there many, many, many kills, EVERYONE is a medic. Thus, almost 0 points are lost. Games can go on for almost an hour, not to mention the insane teamwork score everyone has.

the only problem with this is 99.99% of the time, the commander on those type of servers is the ADMIN so he can monitor rule breakers.

Someone else mention it above, but I'll say it again for emphasis: The ONLY way you get points as commander is through other non-commander players getting points.

Some people analysed the server code on another forum somewhere, and as far as we could assertain, the formula goes like this:

If you are commander and someone scores points by capping a flag or killing someone or whatever, this action takes place:

New commander score = Old Commander score + (amount of points scored / amount of teammates alive at the time)

So if you were commander, and only two people were alive on your team when a teammember neutralises a flag (2 points), your commander score is upped by (2 points / 2 teammates alive) = 1 point.

So, bringing my post more directly on-topic, the best way to get points as commander is to make sure all your teammates get high scores in that round. The best way to do this is to player on a high ticket server (One running a 64 man map), but which has not many players on it. That way the average score will be higher, and hence so will your commander score, allowing you to get all those pretty badges and ribbons :)
