View Full Version : BF2 Editor Beta Released

GameWizard
08-05-2005, 08:48 PM
The long anticipated Editor has finally been released! This is a must for any modder out there wanting to finally make all those creations you dreamed of. Please note that this is an Open Beta and will not feature a complete list of tutorials.
<blockquote>EA and DICE are pleased to announce that today, after two weeks of Closed Beta testing, we are releasing the first public version of the Battlefield 2 editor! Over the last couple of days you've probably seen some of the outstanding work that the Closed Beta teams have created using the tools, and now we're giving everyone else the chance to join the fun. Keep in mind that we are considering this release "Beta" software, so it’s still a little rough around the edges, though we’ve worked out many of the kinks. Also, though most core functionality is editable as of this release, there are several more advanced areas of the tools that are still being worked on. One example of of a tool to be delivered in a future update is the Single Player Editor.</blockquote>

anyone know how to have it install on windows 2000? bf2 installs and runs fine for me with windows 2000...but when I try to install the editor it says that it'll only install on windows xp so it won't even attempt to install...

Because Windows 2000 is not supported.

Yes! I agree, Go MODS, GO!!
Not that all of us don't already have a copy of the leaked version (Lmao) but I guess this one will probably have some improvments like layout saving correctly and ofcourse the massive problem of maps not even loading.

For those that wonder, here's a preview of the terrain editing:

can someone confirm this has the ability to import maps from reg old bf and make them compatible with bf2 with minimum hassle ?

GameWizard
08-05-2005, 09:21 PM
You cannot import maps from the old BF2 directly, however you may convert them. Such as re-importing the heightmap into this editor, and so on.

You need to unzip the client and server zips into the main mod directory, then BF2 maps can be messed with in the editor.

does it come with textures, or do you have to import your own... and why cant it be as easy as bfv... the editor is easy... this one is all code, programing, and well not the easiest. I like how the command and conquer editor is, raise and lower.. you selcet your texture and just click where you want it. It was simple to add water.. drag and drop trees, vehicles, and all that good stuff. I like the bfv editor

I'm more excited about the as-yet-to-be-released Single player editor. I'm not much at modding, but I can try to make some interesting new maps for my little bro, as my mom doesn't want hime to play online. Also for me for during connection outages or when I can't find a good server.

Agreed, i hate those little bastards who just whine about everything, you got BF2 and mod tools (beta), so be happy. Three or four months ago people didn't even got bf2 demo and they were wanting it so badly and now they want more. They probably get everything from their rich parents, spoiled little a######s. jimb0
08-06-2005, 10:35 PM
This is a hell of a good editor. Anybody complaining about it and saying battlecraft is better is forgetting that:

1. Mapping for BF2 has a lot more features so the map editor WILL be more complicated and WILL be slower compared to Battlecraft

2. This is not only a map editor but an integrated mod editor, much like Epic's UnrealEd, so if you're complaining because there are too many features, maybe you shouldn't even try modding

This map editor is the tool the DICE guys themselves used to make the game. It did run perfectly well on my computer, and it's a very low-end machine on the BF2 specs. If your computer can't run BF2, don't even try running the editor, duh.

Instead of complaining because you can't click one button to create a perfect map magically and with no effort, go read the tutorials, they're actually very good.

There's not much stopping people from working on full mods already. If you think the DC guys spent their whole day complaining on forums about the tools instead of actually working on their mod, think again.

Ice_Man
08-06-2005, 10:44 PM
Maybe it being hard to use will prevent the world to be spammed with retarded maps made by people with no clue. I think the editor is great, and seems easy, similar to Battelcraft42 and Editor42 in many ways.

imported_angelofdeath
08-06-2005, 10:57 PM
well i like it, it's a bit slow alright, but not really any more so than every other editor i've used, i think it's pretty easy to use, movement is nice, it reminds me of sandbox the way you just paint onto one 3d viewport

My problem with the editor is after i create the terrain and and add all my vehicles, spawn points, flags etc.. and all is down to the tee of the tutorial i go to run the local game with the map,and it starts to load fine all the way up to when the join button appears and once u select it it crashes to desktop, now my friend got his map to load the 1st time but after that it does same thing we have made 2 more maps to get the same result if have any ideas let us know thanks.

Making multiplayer mods are easy or hard depending on what you are doing, if your just changing around some of the specs and code then it is easy, but once you start adding in new models it gets hard.

followed tutorials 1 & 2, load map, hit join, ctd.

as for the actual editor, s'ok. never used one before, but at least i'm not put off by this one. painting terrain textures is a little choppy, but well bearable. a few too many windows about, i'm gonna have to finally change from 1024*768 to use it propery. fwiw i've got 2500+ stock, 1.5 gigs ram, 9600 pro.

we were able to make the map according to the tutorial and load it but we tried using more vehicles all linked up with spawn points correctly and diff textures for terrain and it wilkl load all the way up to join and then will crash,we have tried 3 more timews and same result anyone have a idea
